Tamarack Elementary Students of the Month

PAL Boxing Club competes
On Saturday, March 26,
2016, the Avenal Police Activities League Boxing Club
took three of its members to
Fresno, California to compete in a competition. The
event was held at Valarde’s
Boxing Club, located at 136
N. Thorne Avenue in the
City of Fresno. There were
approximately 43 bouts
during this competition with
PAL Boxing Club members
competing in bouts 18, 22,
and 35.
Michael Trejo, 10 years
old, competed in the 55
pound weight division and
took first place. This was
Michael’s first competitive
boxing match.
Diego Trejo, 9 years old,
competed in the 60 pound
weight division and took
first place at well. Michael
and Diego are both the sons
of Michael Trejo, a volunteer coach for the Avenal
PAL Boxing Club.
Jose Leon competed in
the 112 pound weight division at the competition and
placed second in his weight
division. Jose is the son of
Mr. Leon.
These events are all day
events beginning with
weigh-ins at 9:00 a.m. to
physicals, to boxer’s actual
matches which can run as
late at 10:00 p.m.
