PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
Our Lady of Good Counsel parish is a ROMAN
CATHOLIC, MULTICULTURAL COMMUNITY guided by
the AUGUSTINIAN tradition.
Through our CELEBRATION of the WORD and
SACRAMENT, and our PARTICIPATION in the LIFE OF
THE CHURCH, we strive to
GROW in our FAITH and share our faith with

PREACH God’s MESSAGE by word and
example;
BUILD UP a spirit of COMMUNITY;
It is with sadness and much gratitude that we say farewell to Mrs.
Santangelo who will retire this summer. I thank all of you for your
prayers and support throughout the process of selecting a new principal.
I am happy to announce that with the guidance of the Archdiocese of
NY Catholic Schools leadership, the hard work of the OLGC Principal
Search Committee, and the approval of Mrs. Santangelo, I have
asked Mrs. Tara Hynes to become our next principal and she has graciously accepted. It was evident to all of us who were part of the
process that she has the many talents, leadership skills, vision and
commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education needed
to lead us forward!
In addition to her academic credentials, Mrs. Hynes also brings a passion, collaborative spirit, goal-oriented attitude and a desire to serve
that will, no doubt, enrich the OLGC Parish community.

Queridos Amigos,
Es con tristeza y mucha gratitud que decimos adiós a la Sra. Santangelo quien se retirará este verano. Doy las gracias a todos ustedes
por sus oraciones y apoyo durante todo el proceso de selección de
una nueva directora.
Estoy feliz de anunciar que, con la orientación del Liderazgo de las
Escuelas Católicas de la Arquidiócesis de NY, el duro trabajo del Comité de Búsqueda para Directora de OLGC, y la aprobación de la
Sra. Santangelo, he pedido a la Sra. Tara Hynes convertirse en la
próxima directora y ella gentilmente ha aceptado. Era evidente para
todos los que fuimos parte del proceso que ella tiene muchos talentos, habilidades de liderazgo, visión y compromiso con la misión y los
valores de la educación católica necesaria para conducirnos hacia
adelante!
Además de sus credenciales académicas, la Sra. Hynes también trae
pasión, espíritu de colaboración, actitud orientada hacia los objetivos
y el deseo de servir a esa voluntad, sin duda, ella enriquece la comunidad Parroquial de OLGC.

Mrs. Tara Hynes
Mrs. Tara Hynes has been involved in Catholic education for most of her life, attending parochial school,
Notre Dame Academy and Fairfield University. She
went on to earn her Master of English Education degree from New York University and her Advanced
Certificate as a School Building Leader from St.
John’s University.
Mrs. Hynes has taught at the middle school and high
school levels. She has spent the last twelve years at
Monsignor Farrell High School, seven of which have
been as the Chairperson of the English department. In
addition, Mrs. Hynes has been an adjunct professor at
The College of Staten Island and St. John’s University.
Mrs. Hynes is looking forward to joining with the
teachers at Our Lady of Good Counsel and the entire
school community to continue the excellence that has
made the school an exemplar on Staten Island.

La Sra. Tara Hynes ha estado involucrada en la educación
católica durante casi toda su vida, asistiendo a la Academia
Parroquial de Notre Dame y a la Universidad de Fairfield.
Después Ella obtuvo su grado de Maestría de Educación en
Inglés en la Universidad de Nueva York y su Certificado
Avanzado como Líder de Escuela en la Universidad de St.
John.
La Sra. Hynes ha enseñado en escuela intermedia y en escuela secundaria. Ella ha pasado los últimos doce años en la
Escuela Secundaria Monseñor Farrell, siete de los cuales
han sido en calidad de Presidente del departamento de
inglés. Además, la Sra. Hynes ha sido profesora adjunta en
la Universidad de Staten Island y la Universidad de St.
John.
La Sra. Hynes espera con ilusión unirse con los profesores
de Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo y de toda la comunidad escolar para continuar con la excelencia que ha hecho

Congratulations to Our Children
May we ask our parish family to pray for and remember our children who received their First Holy Communion on May 2nd and May 9th in our parish. May
Jesus be present in their hearts and life always!
~~ Special Thanks ~~
We thank all the Catechists, Aides and Parents who
served in our Religious Education Program. Special
thanks to Mrs. Linda Affatato, the Director of our program. As the program comes to an end, we remind
students that it is important to continue to come to
Mass each week during the summer. If you are away
on vacation, try to look for a church so that you can
attend Mass. Remember to take time to pray each day
and to continue to live your faith in all you do.
As Religious Classes end this year, we are already
preparing for next year’s classes.
RELIGIOUS ED REGISTRATION FOR
SEPTEMBER 2015-2016
Registration for all students, new and those who are
returning to the program, continues at the parish office. We remind parents that it is important that your
child participate in Religious Education for at least 8
years.
IMPORTANT!
Recently the number of cigarette butts found in
the flowerbeds and around the statue of Our
Mother of Consolation outside the friary has been
on the rise. Smoking on the church grounds is
not encouraged, but if you must smoke, please
dispose of your butts elsewhere. Thank you.

Gracias a todos los Catequistas, Asistentes y Padres de familia que sirvieron en nuestro Programa de Educación Religiosa. Especialmente gracias a la Sra. Linda Affatato, Directora de nuestro Programa. Al llegar el programa a su fin por
este año, recordamos a los estudiantes que es importante
continuar viniendo a Misa cada semana durante el verano.
Si está lejos de vacaciones, trate de buscar una iglesia para
que pueda atender a la Misa. Recuerde de tomar tiempo para orar cada día y continuar viviendo su fe en todo los que
hace.
Mientras las clases de Educación Religiosa llegan a su fin,
así mismo ya estamos preparando clases para el próximo
año.

Recientemente el numero de colillas de cigarrillos encontradas en los macizos de flores y alrededor de la
