those in need. For information or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Betty Quinn, (305)281-3014.
This year’s Festival for the Poor theme comes from Pope Francis who recently said we are to “Live
Humbly, Serve Generously”. The Festival 5K Walk/Run will be held on Saturday March 5th (7 am registration and
8 am start). The Festival Dinner Dance will be on Saturday March 5th, 7:30 pm in the Family Center. This catered
event will be a gourmet plated dinner with a cash wine and beer bar. A fantastic DJ will be providing dancing
music for the event. On March 11th, 12th and 13th we will have our main event with Rides, International
Food Booths, Games, Silent Auctions, Raffles, Live Entertainment, Dinners and MORE!!! As a stewardship
parish we have the opportunity to make this the greatest Festival ever! We need everyone’s participation and
assistance- time, talent and treasure and preferably all of these! We will start distributing raffle tickets this weekend.
Prizes will be $2000, $1500, $1000, $750 and $500! Seller of the $2000 winning ticket will get $100; a great
incentive to sell, sell, sell those raffle tickets. In the Rotunda, every weekend until the Festival; we will have our 2016
Festival t-shirts, Family Dinner tickets, Gourmet Dinner Dance tickets and pre-order discount RIDE BRACELETS
for sale. You can register for the Festival 5K or get the online registration instruction postcard. Our rides and
games for this year are bigger and better than ever!! We’ll have 25 rides this year- something for all ages! We have
new additions to our International Food Booths as well. Corbett’s Sports Bar and Grill has joined as a sponsor
and will be making and selling the BEST chicken wings in town! Our Arts and Crafts Section promises to offer a
great variety of beautiful jewelry, plants and crafts. We have space for several more vendors. Applications will be in
the Rotunda as well. The Bake Sale will have tasty treats for all. There will again be Breakfast Under the Big Top
Sunday morning between 7- 11 a.m. The jail will be up and ready for “customers” to be incarcerated until their bail
is met! We will have our wonderful Silent Auction on Saturday and there will be an Auction at the Saturday March
5th Dinner Dance as well. We will have guest MC’s, DJ’s, bands, singers, magicians, dancers cheerleaders and lots
of entertainment for all to enjoy throughout the entire Festival.
All rides will open Friday, March 11th at 4 pm and remain open until 10 pm. Individual ride tickets will be sold as
well as individual day ride bracelets or a weekend bracelet allowing for unlimited use of all rides Friday, Saturday
and Sunday. There will be NO increase in the price of ride bracelets and t-shirts from last year’s prices.
We are in need of sponsors: event, major, booth, facility and corporate. Sponsorships range from $150 to
$5,000 Platinum Sponsorship. We are seeking sponsorships for 40 booths ($150 each) and rides ($250 each) as
well as Big Top Tent sponsorship ($2000). Recognition signage will be displayed throughout the event as well as
on the Sponsorship Board in the Church, the Event Stage and all publicity. Please call for details or stop by the
Rotunda Festival Table and pick up a sponsorship form for yourself and anyone you think might like to participateyour “boss”, businesses you patronize and your friends. Consider a sponsorship from your family or in honor of
someone or a cause close to your heart.
At the Ministry Head Meeting, Father Paul asked and challenged all Ministries to STEP UP and sponsor a booth
or ride and to take a few hour shift volunteering as a group. WE NEED YOUR HELP. The most important thing to
remember is that 100% of the profits from the Festival are given away to the needy, sick, homeless and vulnerable
in our community. ALL donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated. Together we can make this the greatest
Festival ever; Serving God while serving others. Betty or Ken Quinn; (305)281-3014, (305)766-3268 Bettyq0629@bellsouth.

Altar Server Training
Taller de Educación Financiera
basado en principios bíblicos. Como sabemos, hoy
en día, mucha gente viene experimentando retos
financieros como deudas, un trabajo frustrante,
maneras inadecuadas de ahorrar, etc. Recientes
Boys and girls 10 years old or older who would
like to be altar servers, please come to our training
session on Saturday, February 20 from 2:004:00pm, please meet in the Main Sanctuary. For
more information, please call Matthew Gómez at the

Midnight Musings / Pensamientos de Media Noche
Tempted in Our Strengths
Always on the First Sunday of Lent
we hear about the temptations of Jesus
after his Baptism by John and before
he began his ministry of preaching and
healing. These temptation stories show
how human he was, like us in all things
but sin. We might associate temptations
with our weaknesses, but part of the story
shows how we can be tempted in our strengths– and that may
be more dangerous.
It depends on how we look at things. For example, I
have certain abilities. I can look at them as my talents or God’s
gifts to me. Big difference! Am I or God the center of my life?
Paul explains in I Corinthians 12:4,7: “There are different kinds
of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit… To each individual the
manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”
God’s gifts to me are not just for me and my convenience but
to serve others.
Note how Jesus handled the temptation to turn
stone into bread in Luke 4:3-5. Jesus had many powers; he
performed countless miracles for other people. He did not
want to use his powers for self serving purposes but to serve
others. He refused to turn stone into bread for his own benefit,
but he did not hesitate to multiply the bread and the fish to
serve others. He used his gifts to love others, not to love and
care for self.
Same thing can happen to us; we may use our gifts
for very self-seeking reasons. Look at a couple of frightening
examples from Romans 12: 6: “Since we have gifts that differ
according to the grace given to us, let us exercise them.”
Romans 12:7: “if ministry, in ministering.” You can use the
gift of ministry to become a successful professional. How
many times have we seen ministers of religion make a fortune
for themselves, serving themselves rather than others. Some
have used their power to sexually exploit people who trusted
them; we find this in many different religions.
Romans 12:8a: “if one exhorts, in exhortation.”
You may be very good with your words, very persuasive in
your speech. You could exhort people to greater faith and
goodness. You might also be a master manipulator. You use
your gift for words for your own benefit. You persuade people
to do what benefits you. You twist real communication even
with family and friends to self-seeking purposes.
Romans 12:8c: “if one is over others, be conscientious.”
How many leaders in government and business have used
their power not to serve others but themselves!
The examples could go on and on. A handsome
man or beautiful woman may always face the challenge not
to use their attractiveness for their own sexual satisfaction. An
intelligent person in business may face the challenge not to
cheat and steal and get away with it. I use a gift of God to sin–
tempted in my strengths, the most dangerous temptation of
all.
muchos poderes; él realizó muchos milagros a otras personas.
