Gracias por escuchar el llamado a
Centavos del Cielo
Agradecemos a nuestro Pastor Ed Becker quien motivó a nuestros presentadores, Rob Kaiser, Betsabé Orona y Sylvia

a.m. (Ingles) y 1:00 p.m. (Español) del Domingo 2 de
noviembre.

Pennies from Heaven:
Our gratitude goes to our Pastor Ed
Becker who encouraged our great presenters, Rob Kaiser, Betsabé Orona, and Sylvia Lauder, in their informational appeal
made for the pro-life cause. Kudos to you
as well! The initial response was great; we
run out of baby bottles and had to “raid” all the Dollar
Stores in the neighboring cities. A nurse and a physician
came forward to offer their help for our future clinic. We
were blown away!
Now, if every bottle finds its way back to Jason’s Patio,
rejoicing would be great at the La Habra Life Center.
Please return your gift by October 25/26.
With sincere gratitude:

Altar Server of the Month: Gunnar Cierley
Congratulations to Gunnar Cierley who has been named
Altar Server of the Month for September. Gunnar has
been an Altar Server for nearly two years and is a 6th
grader at Laurel Elementary School in Brea. He can always be counted on to reverently and efficiently perform
his duties. Thank you, Gunnar, for your continued service
at the Altar of the Lord.
Young Families – Please Come
for Potluck Dinner and Conversation!
All Saints Day
As a parish we will celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints
on Saturday, November 1, at 9 a.m. with one bilingual
Mass. Because it falls on a Saturday, All Saints is not a
day of obligation to attend Mass this year.
All Souls’ Day
All Souls’ Day will be celebrated at our regular schedule
of weekend Masses, Saturday evening through Sunday
evening, November 1 and 2.
Our pastor, Fr. Ed Becker, invites all young
families (families with children under the age of
18 and young married couples looking forward to
having children) for a potluck dinner and conversation,
Friday, November 7, 6:30 p.m., in Coleman
Center. The parish will provide main entrees,
drinks and table service; each family is asked to
bring a side dish to share. After dinner, Fr. Ed will
lead a short discussion with the adults about
what kinds of ministry and support young families
would like from our parish community. Although
the conversation will be mostly in English, Spanish translation will be available—good ideas are
welcome in either English or Spanish!
During the conversation with the adults, catechists from our parish Faith Formation program
will take the young people and children to other
rooms for their own programming and activities.
Since we need to know how many people to
prepare for, please RSVP by Monday, Nov. 3, at
(562) 691-0533 or [email protected].
Hope to see you there!
Masses of Remembrance
Members of our parish family who have died in the
past year will be especially remembered on All Souls’
Day at our 11:15 a.m. (English) and 1:00 p.m.
(Spanish) Masses on Sunday, November 2. Everyone
is invited to join in these community celebrations as our
beloved dead will be individually named in prayer. Honor someone whose loss you mourn by bringing a single
stemmed flower to place in a special memorial arrangement. Receptions in Coleman Center will follow both
Masses.
Día de los Muertos
We invite you to include a photograph of your deceased
loved one(s) on our parish Altar del Día de los Muertos
(Altar Honoring the Dead). This traditional altar is being
prepared by Hispanic ministries and will be displayed
inside the vestibule of the church beginning Saturday,
November 1. Please make sure that the name of the
deceased, your name, and your telephone number are
noted on the back of the photograph so it can be safely
returned to you.
Calling All Young Adults

adults (18-35 years of age) for pizza and conversation,
Friday, November 14, 6:30 p.m., in Coleman Center. After dinner, Fr. Ed will lead a
short discussion about what kinds of ministry
and support young adults would like from our
parish community. Although the conversation
will be mostly in English, Spanish translation
will be available—good ideas are welcome in
either English or Spanish! Since we need to
know how many people to prepare for, please

Todo Pertenece a Dios
La primera lectura del profeta
Isaías tiene que ver con el rey
persa Ciro, al que Dios llama
“elegido”.

Reflecting on God’s Word
In a country that has a strong commitment to separation of church and state, it is noteworthy that our money,
both bills and coins, is inscribed with the words “In God
We Trust.” The history of this motto and its relation to our
currency goes back to the Civil War. Changing it has never gotten much support. It serves as a helpful reminder
about where our true security lies.
In the Gospel, the Pharisees, along with some supporters of the Roman regime called Herodians, get into
the act of trying to trap Jesus into taking a stand that
would get him in trouble with either the Roman authorities
or his own people. But Jesus, as much the fox as Herod
was reputed to be, slips out of their net by noting that
there can be different loyalties without a loss of priorities.
Jesus calls on them to produce the idolatrous coin that
no devout Jew should carry, since it declared Caesar to
be a god. Then he advises them to return to the emperor
the coin that bears his image but to return to God what
bears God’s image, that is, themselves, made in the image of God.
A new order is revealed when we give God’s image
back to God by our words and deeds, showing God’s image to others. When this happens, the motto “In God We
Trust” becomes not merely stamped on paper or branded
on copper, but encountered in living flesh and blood.
