—Padre Ed [Bronze / Bronce continued] American First Credit Union Kennick & Associates Inc. Despite the heat wave, the crowds arrived to enjoy the great variety of delicious home-cooked foods, the sweet treats, the games, rides and non-stop entertainment. The Cantina was a popular spot for the adults to chill out and the kids delighted in surprising their unsuspecting classmates and siblings with a spray of silly string or confetti. My thanks go out to all parishioners and friends of OLG who helped in any way: purchasing raffle tickets, donating to the booths, and working in the booths. A special thank you to all of our sponsors and the many businesses that supported La Fiesta, especially our Signature Sponsor, Northgate Markets, and our Corporate Sponsor, Salinas Tires and Wheels. Read through the entire sponsor list in today’s bulletin and, as you shop, support those who supported us. All of this fun and enjoyment would not have been possible were it not for a dedicated and enthusiastic La Fiesta Committee headed by Alfred and Lisa Gusman. This committee was assisted by hundreds of volunteers from the parish at-large, the parish school and the Faith Formation program who gave witness to stewardship of time and talent at its best. Next weekend our parish will celebrate World Mission Sunday. This year we are invited to reach out and help build the Church in Mongolia, the world’s youngest Catholic Church, as well as local churches throughout the Missions, in the most remote areas across our world. Through the work of these churches, and their witness to Christ, the poor receive practical help and experience God’s love and mercy, His hope and peace. Please keep the Missions in your daily prayers. Please come prepared next weekend to give generously in the collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Special envelopes are in the pews today. For more information, please visit their website: www.IAmAMissionary.org. School Mass: Friday, October 17, 9:00 a.m. All are welcome! Young Families – Please Come for Potluck Dinner and Conversation! Our pastor, Fr. Ed Becker, invites all young families (families with children under the age of 18 and young married couples looking forward to having children) for a potluck dinner and conversation, Friday, November 7, 6:30 p.m., in Coleman Center. The parish will provide main entrees, drinks and table service; each family is asked to bring a side dish to share. After dinner, Fr. Ed will lead a short discussion with the adults about what kinds of ministry and support young families would like from our parish community. Although the conversation will be mostly in English, Spanish translation will be available— good ideas are welcome in either English or Spanish! During the conversation with the adults, catechists from our parish Faith Formation program will take the young people and children to other rooms for their own programming and activities. Since we need to know how many people to prepare for, please RSVP by Monday, Nov. 3, at (562) 691-0533 or [email protected]. Hope to see you there! Calling All Young Adults for Pizza and Conversation! Our pastor, Fr. Ed Becker, invites all young adults (1835 years of age) for pizza and conversation, Friday, November 14, 6:30 p.m., in Coleman Center. After dinner, Fr. Ed will lead a short discussion about what kinds of ministry and support young adults would like from our parish community. Although the conversation will be mostly in English, Spanish translation will be available—good ideas are welcome in either English or Spanish! Since we need to know how many people to prepare for, please RSVP by Monday, Nov. 3, at (562) 691-0533 or [email protected]. Hope to see you there! Counting Sheep: Not to fall asleep, of course, but to determine how many of our parish “flock” are in attendance at our Masses each weekend. This occurs annually when our diocese asks all parishes to take “Mass Counts,” counting the number of people present at every weekend Mass in October. These numbers are then used for planning purposes at the parish level and for the diocese as a whole. If the ushers seem to be carefully checking out your pew over these next few weeks, they aren’t trying to squeeze in one more person, just counting how many people are already there.
