Lloyd and Donna Trina For the parents of students who have not yet been baptized: Each year, we offer special Baptism classes for children ages 5 and older. If your child has not yet been baptized, it is important to consider this option before your child begins 2nd Grade, since the primary focus of the religious education classes in 2nd Grade is First Reconciliation and First Communion. Older children who have not yet been baptized are also welcome! These classes are open to all parishioners of Holy Spirit. Baptism is a prerequisite for both First Reconciliation and First Communion. Special Baptism classes are for the child and one parent or guardian, starting in January. Dear Friends of Holy Spirit, The Christmas Season in the Church is completed today with the Baptism of the Lord. While many people remove their Christmas tree on December 26th, if fact the celebration of the Lord’s birth is just beginning!! We now return to “Ordinary Time” until Ash Wednesday on February 10th (very early). When as Catholics do we have an obligation to attend Mass? This question seems to be somewhat confusing, but allow me to give the basic answer. We are to attend Mass on all Sundays and Holydays. The Holydays when we are to come to Mass are January 1st (Solemnity of Mary), August 15th (Assumption of Mary), November 1st (All Saints Day), December 8th (Immaculate Conception of Mary) and December 25th (Christ’s Birth). While many people do attend Mass on Ash Wednesday, it is not a Holyday of Obligation! God’s Blessings and Love, For more information, please contact the Holy Spirit Religious Education office as soon as possible at: 356-6915; or email Gladys Tarter at:[email protected] Are you on the calendar for 2016? Anyone who needs rooms scheduled or thinks they have a recurring meeting please call the office at 353-9404 or email us at [email protected] to make sure it is scheduled. Our calendar system does not automatically go to the next year so please call to make sure your meeting is on the schedule. Contribution amounts will be generated with the close of books for December. Happy New Year! Bible Study Class Begins January 21st Join Father Robert Barron for this engaging presentation concerning the Seven Deadly Sins, those great spiritual blocks that inhibit our flourishing in relationship with God and one another. Based on Dante’s writings, the seven deadlysins correspond to the seven stories of Dante’s Mt. Purgatory. Pride, envy, angerm, sloth, gluttony, avarice and lust are all presented as patterns of dysfunction within us that lead to unhappiness. Father Barron shows us how to counteract these seven sinful patterns through a conscious process of opposition, which are the Seven Lively Virtues. The Seven Lively Virtues offer antidotes to each sin and help set us on the right path to healing and happiness. The class will be held on Thursdays from 12:30pm until 2pm at the Parish Center SPRED is a ministry of the Archdiocese designed to provide individuals with developmental and cognitive disabilities an environment in which they can experience continued faith formation as well as integration into both liturgical and community life of the parish. Your contribution will help send persons from our parish on a life-changing journey. As one scholarship applicant says: I want to learn more about their faith and how it guides their lives . . . I want to bring the lessons I learn from these peoples’ faith and way of life back to Holy Spirit. If you want to help, just drop a check into the weekly collection basket with “Honduras Scholarship Fund” in the memo line or drop your gift off at the parish office. ćBU.BOJT:PVJTBOJOUFSBDUJWFNFOTQSPHSBN DPNCJOJOHUIFCFTUSFTFBSDIGSPNTDJFODFXJUIUIF UFBDIJOHTPGUIF$BUIPMJDGBJUIBOEUIFXJTEPNPGUIF TBJOUTUPEFWFMPQUIFWJTJPOPGBNBOGVMMZBMJWF #ZIPOFTUMZBEESFTTJOHUIFQSFTTVSFTBOEUFNQUBUJPOT UIBUNFOGBDFJOPVSNPEFSODVMUVSFćBU.BOJT:PV TFFLTUPGPSNNFOXIPXJMMCFDBQBCMFPG USBOTGPSNJOHIPNFTBOETPDJFUZ W W W.
