The hard work and dedication by staff and students is paying off. For the second year in a row
Brewster High School has received the Washington State Achievement award for improvement in
academic areas.
We continue to offer courses that earn duel credit, credit for HS and for college. Currently we offer;
• Wenatchee Valley College - Plant Science, Floral Design, Metal Shop, Environmental Science,
Business, Digitools, Accounting, Web Design, Multi Media Computer Apps, Spokane Community College - Applied Math, AP Courses - AP Environmental Science, Spanish 3 & 4,
Eastern Washington University - CWP – American Government, International Studies 200,
English 170, English 101, US History, International Studies –Spanish, International Studies,
EWU Courses for 2015-2016 - Art, Biology/Chemistry, Environmental Science, Senior Core,
Math, Central Washington University - College Prep Math, Pre-Calculus, Physics/Calculus.
We continue to expand opportunities for students to be involved at school. Students can choose
from FBLA, FFA, FCCLA, Math Team, History Team, Science Team, World Language club, Honor
Society, ASB, Class officers, Primera/Primeros, Knowledge Bowl. In addition there are numerous
athletic activities.
Last year’s senior class had 95% graduation rate, 93% of the students were accepted into postsecondary education and they received over $195,000 in scholarships. We are excited about the direction we are
moving in our academic rigor and the students are stepping up to the challenge.
Bond
Over the last four years the district has held community meetings, developed and held committee meetings,
sent out community surveys and had two independent evaluations of the facilities and efficiency of systems in
terms of district/building offices, special programs and the way in which the district does business. These evaluations were initiated by the district as a way to find ways to improve. Changes have and are being implemented
in the areas of offices and systems. The next step is for the district to address district safety and building needs.
There are some significant needs for our buildings and students quality learning environment. Much of the MS/
HS is over 37 yrs. old and in need of some important modernization. There is a need to upgrade security, address
considerable safety concerns, add additional space, improve educational opportunities, provide community resources, plan for the future, all while taking advantage of State matching funds allowing the lowest costs possible.
There is a need to run a Bond, we believe this Bond is truly a community purchase. The Bond is scheduled for
February, 2016. Based on the input from the above mentioned groups there are a number of necessary projects
that will benefit the community as well as the students.
The district will host community meetings to answer questions and take additional input into the project plans.
The first meeting is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 31 at 7PM in the High School Library.
FOR OUR STUDENTS, FOR OUR COMMUNITY, FOR OUR FUTURE
School Improvement Grant
Last year the Middle School received a $1.5 million
grant to support the implementation of a plan of academic improvement. The implementation process is
going well. With a new schedule they are able to offer
enrichment classes as well as intervention classes. An increase in the number of clubs and after school opportunities has been implemented. A middle school Principal,
separate middle school office, a dedicated counselor, parent engagement specialist, technology support, extended
learning day, data specialist and an increase in rigor are all contributing to improving the academic achievement
of the middle school students. In addition, our parent engagement specialist will continue to offer a variety of
community classes, from technology to parenting to financial awareness. We are looking forward to the progress
staff and students will make again this year.
District Office Moving
To help relieve crowded conditions of the facilities and
the need to support the separate middle school identity, the
district purchased a two room portable that will be placed
at the elementary for needed classroom space, and later will
become part of the Pre-School Center. The District Office
is also moving to create the necessary space for the middle
and high school. Necessary office space and an additional
classroom will replace the current district office site. The
High School office will move to the current District office site
and the Middle school office will move into the current High
School office site. The District Office will be moving to the Main Street building where it will share space with
the Alternative School. The move will take place in September.
Budget
Being conservative is the standard of which business is done at the Brewster School District. Having enough
resources to do what needs to be done and using it to create the best education possible, while not building
reserves to unnecessary amounts are our beliefs. This way of thinking has allowed the district to apply for and
receive close to $2 million of grant funds, when a portion matching funds were required, the funds in reserve
were available for that purpose. Again this year the district is in need of additional space and it has become
necessary to purchase a portable, move the district office, and as it turns out replace a bus, in addition, there was
a significant need to purchase a new Language Arts curriculum due to all of the State changes in required learning targets, again the funds in reserves where enough to cover those costs. Had there not been the resources in
reserves, the district would have been in a serious bind. Minimum suggested reserves are 7%-9% of the budget,
currently were at about 9%. This minimum covers one month payroll and a small amount for emergency costs.

Federal ESEA Requirements
There are many positive things happening at the Brewster School District, however like other districts in the area, we also have our challenges. We continue to
aggressively work on improving our state test scores, even as State tests continue to
change and target standards have moved for the third time. While our scores are
climbing, they have not yet met the states goals over a three year period, which is
100% of the students. As a result our elementary and middle schools have been identified as priority schools in
the area of reading and math. This means they must continue to improve on state test scores at the rate the state
determines. You can find out more details about the states identification process and all the schools listed in
those areas by going to http://www.k12.wa.us/ESEA/. If you are interested in being more involved in your child’s
education there are many ways to make that happen, in our parent involvement plan are many examples or you
can contact the building office.
That being said, whether we are on a state list or not, we are committed to the success of ALL students in the
Brewster School District. We continue to improve our instruction, our curriculum, course offerings, clubs and
activity offerings. We continue to increase the number of college course offerings as well has having intervention
classes to help students meet the basic requirements for graduation. We offer tutorial assistance and after school
programs for all students. Technology for students continues to improve as we increase the number of devices
for student use, the addition of a computer lab in the library, and interactive white boards for teacher use for
instruction. Other tutorial information will be available later this fall.

El trabajo duro y la dedicación por parte del personal y los estudiantes están dando sus frutos. Por segundo
año consecutivo la Escuela Preparatoria de Brewster ha recibido el premio Logro del Estado de Washington por
la mejora en las áreas académicas.

Continuamos expandiendo las oportunidades para que los estudiantes participen en la escuela.
Los estudiantes pueden elegir FBLA, FFA, FCCLA, Equipo de Matemáticas, Equipo de Historia,
Equipo de Ciencia, Club de Lenguaje Mundial, Sociedad de Honor, Oficiales de Clase - ASB, Club
de Primeras/Primeros, Tazón de conocimiento. Además hay numerosas actividades deportivas.
La clase del año pasado logro tener el 95% de graduados, con el 93% de esos estudiantes siendo
aceptados en la educación post-secundaria y recibieron más de $195,000 en becas. Estamos muy
entusiasmados con la dirección que llevamos en cuanto a nuestro rigor académico y los estudiantes están afrontando excelentemente el desafío.
Bono
En los últimos cuatro años, el distrito ha celebrado reuniones con la comunidad, desarrollado y mantenido reuniones del comité, enviado encuestas comunitarias y tuvo dos evaluaciones
independientes sobre las instalaciones y la eficiencia de los sistemas en cuanto a las oficinas del
distrito/edificio, programas especiales y la forma en la que el distrito hace negocios. Estas evaluaciones se iniciaron por el distrito como una manera de encontrar formas de mejorar. Los cambios se han y se están aplicando en las áreas de oficinas y sistemas. El siguiente paso para el distrito será atender
las necesidades del distrito en respecto a la seguridad y el edificio. Hay algunas necesidades significativas de
nuestros edificios y calidad de ambiente de aprendizaje para nuestros estudiantes. Mayor parte del edificio
Secundaria/Preparatoria tiene ya más de 37 años de viejo y en la necesidad de una modernización importante.
Hay una necesidad de mejorar la seguridad, atender considerables cuestiones de seguridad, añadir más espacio,
mejorar las oportunidades educativas, proporcionar recursos comunitarios, planear para el futuro, todo mientras
tomando ventaja de los fondos Estatales que igualan permitiendo que los costos sean los más bajos posibles.
Hay una necesidad de ejecutar un Bono, creemos que este Bono es realmente una compra comunitaria. El
Bono está programado para Febrero del 2016. Basándose en las respuestas de los grupos mencionados anteriormente hay una serie de proyectos necesarios que beneficiará a la comunidad, así como los estudiantes.
El distrito estará organizando reuniones para la comunidad, donde podrá responder a las preguntas y tomar
opiniones adicionales acerca de los planes del proyecto. La primera reunión está programada para el Lunes, 31
de Agosto a las 7pm en la Biblioteca de la Escuela Preparatoria.
PARA NUESTROS ESTUDIANTES, PARA NUESTRA COMUNIDAD, PARA NUESTRO FUTURO
Beca de Mejoramiento Escolar
El año pasado la Escuela Secundaria recibió una Beca
de $1.5 millones para apoyar la implementación de un
plan de mejoramiento académico. El proceso de implementación va bien. Con un nuevo horario que es capaz
de ofrecer clases de enriquecimiento, así como clases
de intervención. Un aumento en el número de clubes y
oportunidades de después de clases se han aplicado. Un
director de la escuela secundaria, la oficina de la escuela
secundaria separada, un consejero dedicado, especial-
ista en participación de los padres, el apoyo tecnológico, días de aprendizaje extendidas, especialista de datos y
un aumento en el rigor - están todos contribuyendo a la mejora del rendimiento académico de los estudiantes
de la escuela secundaria. Además, nuestro especialista de participación de los padres continuará ofreciendo una
variedad de clases para la comunidad, desde la tecnología a la crianza de conciencia financiera. Estamos ansiosos
de ver nuevamente el progreso del personal y los estudiantes este año.
Mudanza de la Oficina del Distrito
Para ayudar a revivir las condiciones de hacinamiento de las
instalaciones y la necesidad de apoyar la identidad separada de la
escuela secundaria, el distrito compró un portátil de dos habitaciones que se colocaran en la primaria para el espacio de salones necesario, y más tarde se convertirá en parte del Centro Pre-Escolar. La
Oficina del Distrito también se está moviendo para crear el espacio
necesario para la escuela secundaria y preparatoria. Espacio de oficinas necesario y un aula adicional reemplazarán el sitio oficina del
distrito actual. La oficina de la Escuela Preparatoria se trasladará al
sitio de la oficina del distrito actual y la oficina de la Escuela Secundaria se moverá en el sitio de la oficina de la
Escuela Preparatoria actual. La Oficina del Distrito se trasladará al edificio de la calle principal donde compartirá
espacio con la Escuela Alternativa. La mudanza se llevará a cabo en septiembre.
Presupuesto
Ser conservador es el estándar de la cual se hacen los negocios en el Distrito Escolar de Brewster. Tener suficientes recursos para hacer lo que hay que hacer y que sirva para crear la mejor educación posible, mientras
tanto no dejar que las cantidades de las reservas aumenten a cantidades innecesarias son nuestras creencias. Esta
forma de pensar ha permitido al distrito poder solicitar y recibir cerca de $2 millones en fondos de Becas, cuando se requirió una porción de los fondos de contrapartida, los fondos de reserva estaban disponibles para tal
fin. De nuevo este año el distrito está en la necesidad de espacio adicional y se ha hecho necesario para comprar
un portátil, mover la oficina del distrito, y como resulta que reemplazar un autobús, además, había una necesidad
significativa para la compra de un nuevo plan de estudios de lengua y literatura debido a todos los cambios de
Estado en los objetivos de aprendizaje requeridos, de nuevo los fondos de las reservas fueron lo suficiente para
cubrir esos gastos. Si no haya ávido los fondos en reserva necesarios, el distrito habría estado en una situación
muy seria. La reserva mínima sugerida son entre 7%-9% del presupuesto, actualmente estamos en el 9%. Este
mínimo cubre una nómina del mes y una pequeña cantidad para gastos de emergencia.

Requisitos Federales ESEA
Hay muchas cosas positivas que están sucediendo en el Distrito Escolar de Brewster, sin embargo al igual que otros distritos de la zona, también tenemos nuestros
desafíos. Seguimos trabajando agresivamente en la mejora de nuestros resultados de
las pruebas estatales, así como las pruebas estatales continúan cambiando y las normas de destino se han desplazado por tercera vez. Aunque nuestros resultados están
subiendo, aún no han cumplido con los objetivos del estado dentro de un período
de tres años, lo cual es el 100% de los estudiantes. Como resultado nuestras escuelas
primarias y secundarias han sido identificadas como escuelas prioritarias en el área
de lectura y matemáticas. Esto significa que deben seguir mejorando en los resultados de las pruebas estatales al
ritmo que el estado determine. Puedes conocer más detalles sobre el proceso de identificación del estado y todas

más en la educación de su hijo, hay muchas maneras de hacer que eso suceda, en nuestro plan de participación
de los padres encontrara varios ejemplos o puede comunicarse con la oficina del edificio.
Dicho esto, no hay diferencia si estamos en la lista del estado o no, aún estamos comprometidos con el éxito
de todos los estudiantes en el Distrito Escolar de Brewster. Seguimos mejorando nuestra instrucción, nuestro
plan de estudios, la oferta de cursos, clubs y las diferentes actividades. Continuamos aumentando el número de
cursos universitarios, por igual ofreciendo clases de intervención para ayudar a los estudiantes a cumplir con los
requisitos básicos para la graduación. Ofrecemos asistencia tutorial y programas después de clases para todos los
estudiantes. La tecnología para los estudiantes continúa mejorando a medida que aumentamos el número de dispositivos para el uso de los estudiantes, la adición de un laboratorio de computación en la biblioteca, y pizarras
interactivas para el uso de los maestros para la enseñanza. Otra información tutorial estará disponible a finales
de este otoño.
