the blessing of animals on
October 3. It was a very
nice celebration.
Many dogs, 1 cat,
1 rabbit and 1 guinea pig.
We truly went to the dogs
that day (too funny).
It seems we
cannot get nice weather
for the blessing.
My thanks also go out to the workers of the Craft
Bazaar. They put in a lot of work on behalf of the
parish and I do appreciate their labor. Congratulations
to Diane Malkowski who won the 50/50 raffle.
Thank you all for your fine work.
I met last week with representatives of the Filipino
community. They are planning some events for the
parish and are looking for those who want to be part
of the planning. Today we will ask you to give us your
information so we can contact you about helping our
Simbang Gabi celebration. Please sign up at the
information table in the Gathering Space.
If you or anyone you know is sick and wants to be
visited by a minister of care from Church of the Holy
Spirit, please call Sr. Marianne in the parish office and
she will set that up for you. The minister comes with
Holy Communion and a cheery disposition.
The first Mass in Spanish was celebrated here at CHS
in 1991. We commemorate and celebrate the 25th
Anniversary of Latino ministry on Oct. 24.
This celebration is not a celebration of a part or
segment or particular ministry of the parish, but a
celebration of the church’s outreach. I hope you are
able to come to this event. Once again, the
dinner/dance is October 24 from 6:30pm to 12
midnight at Bridges of Poplar Creek, 1400 Poplar
Creek Drive in Hoffman Estates. The tickets are
$35.00 for adults and $20.00 for children.

Muchas gracias a todos aquellos que nos acompañaron
para la bendición de animales el 3 de octubre.
Fue una celebración muy hermosa. Muchos perros,
1 gato, 1 conejo y un conejillo de indias.
Muchos animalitos. Parece que nunca podemos tener
un buen clima para esta bendición.

La semana pasada me reuní con representantes de la
comunidad Filipina. Estas planeando algunos eventos
para la parroquia y están también buscando a personas
que deseen ser parte del equipo de planeación. Hoy le
pediremos a la Comunidad Filipina que nos de su
información para contactarlos acerca de la celebración
de Simbang Gabi y otros eventos. Favor de registrarse
en la mesa de información a la entrada de la Iglesia.
Si algún familiar o amigo que conozcan, desea que un
Ministro de Enfermos los visite, favor de llamarle a la
Hermana Marianne a la oficina y ella se encargará de
que alguien los visite. El ministro los visitará con
Comunión y grandes deseos de servir.
La primera Misa en Español celebrada aquí en CHS
fué en 1991. Conmemoraremos y celebraremos el 25
Aniversario del ministerio Latino el 24 de octubre.
Esta celebración no es una celebración de un segmento
o algún ministerio en particular, sino una celebración
del ministerio en general de la iglesia.
Espero que nos puedan acompañar a este evento.
Una vez más, la cena baile es el 24 de octubre de las
6:30 p.m. a la medianoche en Bridges de Poplar Creek,
1400 Poplar Creek Drive en Hoffman Estates.

REPORTE DEL DIACONO JOSE PAZ DE LA VISITA A FILADELFIA DURANTE LA VISITA DEL PAPA FRANCISCO
Ivonne y yo tuvimos la dicha de poder estar en Filadelfia para el Congreso Mundial de las Familias, nos
acompañaron Marilu la mama de Ivonne y nuestro hijo Santiago de 2 años. El evento que se desarrolló del 21 al
27 de Septiembre culmino con el Festival de las Familias el
sábado y la misa Dominical, ambas con la presencia de El
Papa Francisco.
Fue una experiencia muy enriquecedora porque conocimos
personas muy interesantes que viajaron de varias partes del
mundo, Obispos, Sacerdotes, Diáconos y una gran cantidad
de religiosos y peregrinos de diversas organizaciones, y
familias completas, nos dimos cuenta que todos
compartíamos un espíritu de gozo y gran alegría y
fraternidad que se vivió por toda la ciudad, unidos en el
llamado y emoción de poder ver al Papa. A pesar de que
pasamos largas filas y caminatas extenuantes, pues las
mayorías de las calles estaban cerradas, la sonrisa se dibujaba en todas las personas que encontrábamos a nuestro
paso y había tanta emoción que en más de una ocasión hasta nos olvidamos de comer. En nuestra estancia
escuchamos grandes ponentes como el Obispo Robert Barron, cantantes como Andrea Bocelli y Juanes.
Nos sentimos afortunados de poder ver al Papa de cerca y unirnos en oración con más de 1 millón de personas.
Para Ivonne el rezar el padre nuestro y sentir la energía de tan gran multitud unidos a una misma voz fue una
experiencia espiritual única.
Yo me lleve una gran impresión cuando el Papa se bajó del Papa-móvil y camino hacia “El Groto” donde yo me
encontraba, era un lugar especial que se preparó para depositar por escrito las oraciones de intercesión,
ahí coloque todos los nombres y peticiones de nuestra comunidad, y vi al Papa acercarse a unos pasos de mi a
orar por todos los que habían pedido de sus oraciones, no pudo haber estado mejor, que alegría.
Ya estaba revestido de Diacono porque de ahí iba a ayudar a distribuir la Santa Eucaristía en la Misa con el Papa.
Me sentí orgulloso de representar a nuestra parroquia
y en parte a la ciudad de Chicago.
La mama de Ivonne nos compartió
que le impresiono gratamente ver tantas razas y culturas,
y estratos sociales unidos todas por una misma Fe,
compartiendo el pan y quizá un pedazo de piso mostrando
nuestra igualdad a pesar de las diferencias.
Y aunque esperábamos al Papa en Filadelfia,
lo seguimos por televisión y casi lloramos de gozo
de ver el encuentro Ecuménico tan fraterno
que se tuvo de líderes de diferentes religiones
en la zona cero de Nueva York, creo que mandamos
un mensaje muy fuerte al mundo que
“Las Fuerzas del mal no prevalecerán”

.

She holds a master’s degree in vocal performance from Roosevelt University, and has
appeared with the American Girl Theatre, Imagination Theatre, Theatre Hikes, Light Opera Works, Chicago Symphony and
Grant Park Choruses. She was also a guest artist with The Lyric Opera Center for American Artists. Heather was a Silver
Award winner at the 2003 April Spring Friendship Festival in Pyongyang,
North Korea, as well as a semi-finalist in the Tokyo International Vocal Competition. She has had the pleasure of singing the
National Anthem for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Fire.

CHS FOOD PANTRY
FOOD COLLECTION
OCTOBER 17 & 18
AT ALL MASSES
Thus far in 2015 the Food Pantry has been used
3,343 times by families who can use the Food
Pantry once a month. As the need for food assistance
continues for a significant number of families in our
community, your continued support is greatly appreciated.
The Food Pantry requests the items listed here because they
are unavailable or rarely available from the Greater Chicago
Food Depository where 90% of the food distributed at the
Food Pantry is purchased at or below cost or received free as
USDA commodities. The other 10% comes from our own
food drives and those by other families, churches and organizations. Cash donations are used to purchase needed items
from the Food Depository.

Canned Fruit, Canned Soup
Baking Items, Toilet Paper
Hotel Toiletries
(shampoo, cream rinse. lotion, shower gel,
soap, toothpaste, etc.)
Cash donations are always welcome
Please bring donations to Mass the weekend of October 17
& 18 and place them on the cart by the Hospitality Room.
Non-perishable items can also be brought to the Parish
Office during office hours. Perishable items like fresh
fruits or vegetables, meat, milk or dairy products can be
brought directly to the Food Pantry on Thursdays from
2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Be sure the expiration date on any
perishable item goes beyond the date of the next Thursday.
The Food Pantry is located in the lower level of the Kane
Center and can be accessed through the door directly behind
the garages. Hours are each Thursday 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Volunteers are always needed to keep the food pantry running.

Hasta el momento, la Despensa de Comida se ha
usado 3,343 veces por familias que pueden usar
la Despensa de Comida. Al continuar la necesidad
de asistencia de comida por un gran número de familias in nuestra comunidad, agradecemos su apoyo grandemente.
La Alacena de Comida solicita los artículos mencionados a
continuación, ya estos artículos por lo regular no se pueden
adquirir del Depósito de Comida de Chicago, de donde recibimos un 90% de los artículos comestibles para la alacena. El
otro 10% lo recibimos de donaciones de familias caritativas,
Iglesias ú otras organizaciones. Las donaciones en efectivo se
utilizan para la compra de comida del Depósito de Chicago.
