SPAN 243: Latin American Culture and Literature (18 Points)
Paper Description
This course focuses on the development of Latin America’s cultural identity out of its
Indigenous, African and European roots. The primary objective of this paper is to give
students an insight into the cultural and social evolution of Latin America, seeking to
explain the race relations, music, ideas and political movements that helped to shape
its cultural landscape.
Course objectives
To promote an understanding of the richness and complexity of Latin American
culture.
To develop an appreciation for Latin America’s social practices and cultural products.
To encourage students to examine a selection of cultural manifestations within
broad intellectual and/or historical contexts.
