Hence the readings this Sunday have focus on the “end times”. The liturgy of the church mirrors salvation history which ends at the triumph of Christ the King and Judge. This Sunday's gospel apocalyptic imagery describes the triumph of Jesus the Lord, “And they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory...” It is clear from the Sunday readings that there will come a time of judgment and an end to this world as we know it. Perhaps we can look at our own human concerns with this larger picture in mind. Against this wider background of the end times, we can judge our conduct of our day to day concerns as well as our pursuit of what seem to be important in life. In the end, as St. Paul says, only love really matters. The end times are only a prelude to a new beginning – a new heaven and new earth. Everything will pass away but only love will remain. The passages of Scriptures tells us particularly that God’s words, his laws are far more important than anything else in the whole world. "The heavens and the earth will pass but not my words," says the Lord in our gospel this Sunday. God's love to us is unchanging, his laws which are the laws of real love cannot be changed, his invitation for us to turn to him will never be changed, yes his call for us to live a meaningful life, his call for our salvation will not change. What the Lord therefore wants us to consider is how much have we shaped our lives to the unchanging words of God? And how much have we let these words guide our path in this transitory world? In other words how much we allow the unchangeable message of the word of God transform and change us to become better human beings. The tragedy is that many do the reverse - they want God be changed according to their views. Hence many instead follow a different set of value system rather than follow the values of the Gospel. In the process people are making the world increasingly out of control heading towards its self destruction. If only we learn how to walk and live according to wisdom of the word of God and follow the Lord's ways we realize how beautiful, how peaceful, how good life could be. Blessings to you and have a good week. Fr. Padre Tony ST.
