Baptisms celebrating during Mass
Jubilee Year of Mercy
"With our eyes fixed on Jesus and his
merciful gaze, we experience the love of the
Most Holy Trinity. The mission Jesus
received from the Father was that of
revealing the mystery of divine love in its
fullness. 'God is love' (1 John 4:8,16), John
affirms for the first and only time in all of
Holy Scripture. This love has now been
made visible and tangible in Jesus' entire
life. His person is nothing but love, a love
given gratuitously. The relationships he
forms with the people who approach him manifest something
entirely unique and unrepeatable. The signs he works,
especially in favor of sinners, the poor, the marginalized, the
sick, and the suffering, are all meant to teach mercy. Everything
in him speaks of mercy. Nothing in him is devoid of
compassion."

Apologetics – Continued…….
As Catholics, do we have to accept everything the Church
teaches?
If you want to call yourself Catholic, but you want to pick and
choose for yourself which of the Church's teachings to accept
and which to reject, you give everyone else who calls
themselves Catholic the right to do the same thing.
Confession
For example, you believe women should be priests...in the
Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1577 states,
"Only a baptized man validly receives ordination...For this
reason the ordination of women is not possible!" You don't
believe that...well, that's fine...[RIP] just tear that page out of
your Catechism...you just made it a Catechism of your Catholic
Church...not mine.
But remember, if you can throw doctrines out, so can everyone
else who calls themselves Catholic. That gives Joe Parishioner
over at St. Doubting Thomas Catholic Church the right to
throw out the Church's social justice teachings...he doesn't feel
like feeding the hungry, caring for the poor, and all that other
"bleeding heart" stuff - Paragraphs 2401 -2463 [RIP]...he just
made it a Catechism of his Catholic Church...not mine and not
yours.
You believe contraception is okay? Paragraph 2370 says
contraception is intrinsically evil! [RIP] Joe Parishioner doesn't
like what the Church teaches on the death penalty - Paragraphs
2266-2267[RIP]. You don't like what it teaches on pages 55-60
[RIP]. He doesn't like what it teaches on pages 128-140 [RIP]
Can you see what's happening? I heard it said once that there is
a shortage of vocations to the priesthood in the United States,
but no shortage of vocations to the Papacy! If we don't believe
in all of it, if we each appoint ourselves Pope and throw out a
doctrine here or a doctrine there, then our faith is no longer
Catholic.

Based upon his proven and
powerful parish mission
presentation, Fr. Larry
Richards’ talk on
Confession has become the
#1 talk in North America
dealing with the Sacrament
of Reconciliation. He is
riveting, honest, humorous,
very human, and often
touchingly gentle. Fr. Larry
provides listeners with
hope for a closer, healing relationship with Jesus Christ.
CD’s are available in the Gathering Space for $3.00 each.
New Evangelization Ministry
The New Evangelization Ministry’s “library” will be open for
business the weekend of February 6/7. This month the library
will feature books, CDs, and DVDs on Lent and Reconciliation
that can be borrowed for free. We have resources for adults,
teens, kids, and families. Stop by and pick up one of our
pamphlets on Confession or a Lenten activity booklet for kids.
Look for the New Evangelization Ministry’s “Lent Challenge of
the Week” starting next week in the bulletin. The three pillars
of Lent, which come from the Gospel read on Ash Wednesday,
are prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. In this Gospel passage
Jesus tells us to pray, fast, and give alms in secret so that,
“…your Father who sees in secret will repay you.” For each
week of Lent, a challenge will be presented in the areas of
prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. By conversing with God in
prayer and making sacrifices of fasting and almsgiving, we
hope you feel your relationship with the Lord grow deeper each
week as you complete the challenges.
Study Guide Pickup
The study guides for the 7 Deadly Sins 7 Lively Virtues
program will be available for pickup after Masses the weekend
of February 6/7. Stop by the New Evangelization Ministry’s
library table to get your book. Study guides can also be picked
up at the parish office during this week. If you are interested in
joining a study group, there are openings on Tuesday and
Wednesday evenings, as well as Thursday mornings. Contact
Barb Harazin for more information: 630-629-7956.

perjudique a gente inocente.
amor.

Please Participate! Your Gift Makes a Difference!
This week, you are asked to review the 2016 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA)
tabloid that you received with your bulletin today. The CMAA is much different than a onetime special collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a one-time gift or
pledge your gift over 10 months to support the good works of the diocese.
A gift to the CMAA will touch the lives of many in our diocese in a positive way. Each gift
makes a difference! Together, the gifts of many enable our diocese to deliver needed
education, ministry and services to those who need it most. As you take the time to review
the tabloid and see all the work enabled by the CMAA, please reflect on God’s gifts to you.
He has given you all that you have. We were “Chosen by God’s Grace” and together we can
give thanks to Him for our blessings through a gift to the CMAA.
If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it and mail it or bring it to
Mass next weekend. For those of you who have not received the mailing, we will conduct
our Commitment/In-Pew Weekend process at all Masses next weekend.
After our parish exceeds its CMAA goal of $64,489 in paid pledges, 65% of any additional funds are returned for use in
our parish.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration and generous response.
