FROM THE OGLE OFFICE DE EL PASTOR Dear Friends: I wish to offer a word of thanks to all who prepared and attended the Mass of Dedication of our new Altar and Restored church last weekend and the fine reception afterwards. It was a historic way to initiate our 175th Anniversary Year (the “Dosquicentennial”), and wonderful to see a church filled with close to 500 worshippers. Bishop Sanchez truly made real for us the Lord’s indwelling in His Temple and the reverent dignity of this memorable occasion. Bishop Chappetto added his sense of affection for his home parish and blessed our food at the reception, along with our episcopal vicar, Very Rev. Thomas Pettei, V.E. The tone was elevated greatly by the music of the American and Hispanic choirs. The night would hardly have gone so well without the able assistance of our parish staff and the strenuous efforts of the Anniversary Committee. The reception was particularly joyful under the capable International Food Fest committee. The diocesan TV and press covered the event, as did our own parish media team. All in all everyone did their part and the effect was a vivid manifestation of the Mystical Body of Christ here in our parish. Thanks to you all. Meanwhile we do not sit on our laurels. In less than a month we will host another landmark in our parish history as we become the north Queens church with the Holy Doors for the Jubilee Year indulgence. On Sunday (not Saturday) December 13 at 5:00 PM Mass, Bishop Cisneros will open the Holy Doors here for the Holy Year of Mercy. Please join us for this opportunity to gain indulgences for the souls in purgatory and blessings for all the living. If you like Latino music, why not stop by the St Cecilia Mass and dance at St Margaret Mary on 9th St on Sunday, November 22 at starting at 6 PM. It’s always a great time. That is just one of several patron saint feasts this month: San Diego Alcala on Saturday, November 21, and the Vietnamese Martyrs on Sunday, November 22. The saints really are marching in around here! However, we must recall that Jesus is King because he is a servant to all. Jesus' kingship is one of power and might, but also humility. During these uncertain times, when the spiritual warfare is at its height, we take refuge in the Precious Blood of Jesus. We pray. The Seal of the Living God Oh My God, My Loving Father, I accept with love and gratitude your Divine Seal of Protection. Your Divinity encompasses in my body and soul for eternity. I bow in humble thanksgiving and offer my deep love and loyalty to you my Beloved father. I beg you to protect me and my loved ones with this special Seal and I pledge my life to your service forever and ever. I love you, Dear Father; I console you in these times, Dear Father. I offer you the Body, Blood Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, in atonement for the sins of the whole world and for the salvation of all your children. Our Thanksgiving Prayer Good and gracious God, we come before you today united with all who give you thanks and praise. Fill us with gratitude for your many blessings, both physical and spiritual. We thank you in particular this day for the gifts of food and family. Bless this food, Lord, that it may nourish our bodies. Bless our family, especially those who can’t be with us today. Also today, we remember those of our family who have gone to be with you. Grant us your spiritual blessings and help us pray daily for the grace to serve you in response to your bountiful gifts to us. Bless all who serve you throughout the world. We pray this in the name of Jesus, Your Son, our Lord, who gives all things freely according to our needs. Continue to bless us and give us your peace. Amen. Beginning the weekend of November 28 and through the weekend of January 2, there will be 3 trees decorated with tags that will benefit BRIDGE TO LIFE and some parish members from St. Margaret Mary who need our assistance. These trees will be located in the following areas: 1) in the narthex of the upper church, 2) in the West Vestibule near the elevator and 3) in the lower church. We hope you are able to take a tag or more if possible and buy the items listed. Please do not wrap the gift. Just tape the tag to the bag or box so we can identify the item and where it is to go. Please bring the gift by the weekend of January 2 and give to an usher during Masses or bring to the Rectory for safe keeping. We all know times are tough but for those of us lucky enough, a donation will aid someone during this time of year where it is better to give than to receive. God bless you and your families for your generosity.
