Parish Life & Ministries
When it comes to building the City of God there is
always room for more people to be involved. Here
are just some of the many ways you can get
involved in our mission of caring for our brothers
and sisters in need.
Parish Outreach:
668-1318
There are many needs that we respond to on a
regular basis. Volunteers offer specific services and
are scheduled to be “on call” a few days each month
in case those services are needed. Call the parish
office to volunteer. Gert Murphy will then contact
you to discuss how you can help.
Montauk Food Pantry: “When I was hungry you
gave me food.” Thank you to everyone who so
generously supports our Community Food Pantry!
We are always restocking our shelves.
Non
perishable foods such as rice and beans, baby
formula, and any size baby diapers are welcome!
Caring for the Sick: When you or someone you
love are not able to make it to mass for an extended
period of time, we would like to help you stay
connected with our parish life, especially by
bringing Communion to you in your home. Please
call the parish office. You will be contacted to
arrange to have someone bring you Communion.

Remembering a Loved One
Discover how Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s
promises. Read about how to connect Jesus’
message with your daily life through Scripture.
Wednesdays at 6:00pm in the Parish Center.
As we bring our gifts to the altar at mass, we
also bring our joy, pain, sorrow and love. We
believe that God accepts all of this from us and
gives us salvation through His Son in return.
If you would like to remember a loved one in
our Eucharistic celebrations, you can contact our
office to arrange a mass intention or to arrange a
memorial of the bread, wine, altar candles
or sanctuary lamp that we will use for a
given week. If you would like to arrange
a more permanent memorial (Vestment,
Sanctuary furnishings, cloth), please contact
Don Bostrom at 668-4202
Come join us every Monday evening from
5:30-7:30pm to celebrate the gift of the Holy
Eucharist and God’s Divine Mercy. Adoration will
begin with the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy
followed by silent prayer. Noon time adoration for
the season will be Wednesdays from 12pm-1pm.
We hope you make this a part of your Lenten
journey. Thank you to all who came to spend time
before the Blessed Sacrament with us.

First Sunday of Lent
THE MEANING OF OUR BAPTISM
Lent is the time of year that we devote to
scrutinizing our lives in the light of our baptism into the
death and resurrection of Jesus. Today’s readings are a
nice shorthand catechism of what our baptized lives
mean. As Noah passed through the waters of the flood to
a covenant with God, so did we enter into a covenant, a
promised relationship with God through our baptism.
The psalm reminds us that if we truly keep the covenant,
the way of life God expects us to follow will not be a
burden, but a source of love and truth. Peter’s letter
gives one explanation of what our baptism means: it is
an appeal that we make to God for a clear conscience.
How do we obtain this clear conscience? The words that
Jesus proclaims immediately following his temptation
show us the way: “Repent and believe in the gospel.” It
might be a good spiritual exercise to keep these readings
before us throughout the entire season of Lent, a means
to help us return to a life lived in our baptismal
promises.

Catholics for Freedom of Religion
About a half million people participated in the
annual "March for Life" in Washington, D.C. this
year, prompting Parade Marshal from Virginia,
Conor Shiel ,to comment, "This absolutely cannot
be considered a 'Catholic event'. So far, I have met
Buddhists, Orthodox, Eastern Rite Catholics,
Baptists and Mormons...the cause of life transcends
any religion." Responding to criticism about the
"March for Life" by self-described Catholic
politicians, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore
Cordileone said, "There is no debate in the Catholic
Church about life beginning at conception and no
room for Catholics to "dissent" on the
principle (newsmax.com 1/16/15).” Please
remember The Little Sisters of the Poor who are still
fighting the mandate to either violate their deeply
held religions convictions or pay crippling fines to
the IRS. (www.becketfund.org. 1/15/15

Lent
Lent began on February 18th with the
celebration of Ash Wednesday. As we
begin the season of Lent - the season of
reflection and preparation for Easter let us pray for the renewal of our
Church, fast from fear and anxiety, and
give generously as an expression of our

to look forward to the joy that
Easter’s Resurrection will bring!
Professional Therapy and Counseling

by New York State licensed therapists, are available
to our parish and 148 other parishes. The program,
under the direction of Dr. George Guiliani, has
been conducted in the diocese for the past 41 years
for the convenience of parishioners. It is provided
by the Catholic Counseling Center, a proprietary
professional corporation, which is independent of
and not controlled or supervised by the parish or
diocese. Most insurance policies, including
Medicare, are honored. For confidential
information and appointments, please call
Dr. Giuliani at the Catholic Counseling Center at

A little boy was overheard praying: 'Lord, if you
can't make me a better boy, don't worry about it. I'm
having a real good time like I am.'
Good Friday is an obligatory day of
fasting (ages18-59) and abstinence
from meat for Catholics (ages 14 and
older). In addition, all Fridays
during Lent are obligatory days of
abstinence from meat.
Reflection
The waters of Baptism make us part of the new
covenant in Christ. The Bishop’s pastoral letter on
stewardship reminds us that “there is a fundamental
obligation arising from the sacrament of
Baptism...that people place their gifts, their
resources - their selves - at God’s service in
and through the Church.”

I Domingo de Cuaresma, Año B. Ilustración © 1996 M. McGrath.
Printed from www.

especialmente recomendada.

de 18 años al taller.
