Student Assignment 2016-17
January 11th – April 1, 2016
Parents of currently enrolled students in Lee County Public School grades five, eight, and students in Pre-K attending Lee County Public Schools
who are eligible for kindergarten for 2016/17, will be mailed their child’s personalized application on January 8, 2016. This is a very exciting
time of year for students and parents as they plan for 2016-2017! Those receiving the applications can save time by applying online! Please read
the documents sent to you very carefully, and determine if you want to apply online, mail it back to us, or bring it to one of our offices in person. This is a ten-week application period. There is no need to stand in long lines the first few days since you have ten weeks to submit the application. All applications are processed as a group.
Parents of children who will be five on or before September 1 st , 2016 and who are not enrolled in one of the district’s Pre-K programs must visit
one of our offices to register for kindergarten for the 2016/2017 school year (bring registration requirements). This should be done during the first
application period (January 11 – April 1) to increase the chances of being assigned to your preferred school. Brand new students cannot apply online – they must be registered in person. There are no automatic assignments – parents need to register incoming kindergartners even if they
have an older sibling already attending the preferred school. Please visit www.leeschools.net for registration requirements and Student Assignment Office locations.
There is also virtual instruction available within the Lee County School District. Lee Virtual Instruction Program (LVIP) is the only K-12 school
in the District. It follows the school district calendar and offers the same diploma opportunity as any other school in the District. There are two
application periods for LVIP. The first application period coincides with the Student Assignment’s first application period. The second one starts
the Monday after Thanksgiving for second semester enrollments. Applying to LVIP does not affect your current School Choice assignment until
the student is accepted into the LVIP program. Visit Lee Virtual Instruction Program at http://lvip.leeschools.net/.
Selección Escolar 2016-2017
Enero 11 – Abril 1, 2016
PTA News
As 2015 is coming to an end, we want to thank each of our PTA members for their support! We could not do all the wonderful things we do at
our school without all of our wonderful families and Heights staff. We appreciate you! We are extremely close to meeting our goal of 400 members. It is not too late to join! It is only $5 for your annual membership. Please contact [email protected] or visit our website at
Heightspta.org to join.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the volunteers that helped with our book fair last month. A great big thanks to Mrs. Riemenschneider,
Mrs. Charter and Mrs. Alexander for all their time and hard work. Thanks to everyone's efforts, we sold over $20,000 in books for the week,
which means our library will receive $5,000 worth of new books and educational materials! Way to go team!!!
The PTA organized some Thanksgiving treats to say thank you to our awesome Heights teachers & staff last month! A special thank you to
Heights family, Lisa & Chris Wilson for generously donating coffee from their business - Chocolatte's! We also want to thank our Teacher &
Staff Appreciation chair, Lynn Malkani & her committee for their planning and organization. Congrats to Mrs. Thorstad & Mrs. DiBenedetto for
winning our Thanksgiving Teacher & Staff Appreciation prize drawing!
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our Heights Family Movie Night on Thursday, December 17th from 5-8pm on the lawn of Alliance for the Arts, 10091 McGregor Blvd. Admission is FREE to all Heights families and we will be showing the newly released "The Minions"
movie. We will have dinner available to purchase from food vendors including Red Roc Cravings serving tacos, burritos, nachos and homemade
salsa, Stevie Tomatoes serving pizza, wings, chicken tenders and hot dogs and Burger Que delivering the town's best burgers and fries.
The Heights choir will perform and there may be a special guest or 2 (not mentioning any names ho, ho, ho). So bring your beach chairs, blankets and have a picnic and movie under the stars!
Although our Fall auction has passed, believe it or not, it's time to start planning for next year. In order for this event to be a success, it takes a
lot of planning and preparation. The position for auction chair is currently open so if you are creative, energetic, organized and want to take
charge of this amazing fund raising event, please contact PTA at [email protected]. Not sure? How about donations coordinator? Contact us for more information.
Save the Date! January 29, 2016 from 5-8pm for our Heights Family Fun Zoomers Night.
