From the Pastor’s Desk
As we celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend, I wish to
salute all the women of our parish who so generously
share from their hearts and lives the gift of nurture, the
blessing of faith and the renewing gift of love. May
this day be one of celebration with those who walk
with us and one of prayerful remembrance for all who
have gone home to the Lord.

Message from your 7 month old
spiritually adopted baby
“I can look around!” Thank you for praying
for me. I am 7 months old now. I am
growing every day. I’m between 14 and 17 inches long
and weigh about 41/2 pounds. I move around a lot but
it’s getting crowded in here! Sometimes I even get the
hiccups!
Month 4 - You are in the home stretch with your
spiritually adopted baby. Beginning this month the
baby uses all four senses. Guess what your baby can do
now: He can see, hear, taste, touch, cough, yawn and
hiccup. Amazing! He now recognizes his mother’s
voice, and ultrasound reveals that he likes to open his
eyes and look around. During this time he will also
receive antibodies from his mother protecting him from
a wide variety of diseases.
Prayer to Mary, Mother of the Life Within O Mary,
Mother of the Life Within, all life we entrust to you;
The life of every expectant mother and the child within
her womb: The life of every human body, the life of
every human soul; The life of every newborn child and
the life of all grown old. You held the Lord to your own
heart and drew Him so close in. So draw us now in all
our needs, O Mother of the Life Within. Amen

Christian Formation and Evangelization
Do You Know what a novena is? A novena is a prayer
with a specific intention offered nine days in a row,
originating in the nine (novem) days of prayer by the
disciples and Mary between the Ascension and
Pentecost.
Many novenas have been highly
indulgenced by the Holy See over the centuries. Today
the recommended (and only scriptural) novena is the
one before Pentecost.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
Have you ever considered becoming a Roman
Catholic? Have you or has someone you know ever
thought about exploring questions that you or they may
have concerning the Church and our beliefs?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, RCIA
is for you. The RCIA is a church rite for adults
pursuing the possibility of joining the Roman Catholic

Sacred Heart School
Sacred Heart Parishioners,
While I like to write about different
topics in our school newsletter and parish
bulletin, I’ve followed a trend recently of
mentioning the same topic in both because they have
been so important. This Sunday, I’d like to share with
you my reflections on the First Communion our 2nd
grade school and religious education students made
together on Saturday, April 25th.
To say that the two masses were beautiful
would be a radical understatement. There was a level
of joy in our young people that really defined the
experience for me. Our 2nd graders processed in
together to start the mass, did a liturgical dance that
was part of the presentation of the gifts, and held other
key leadership aspects in the mass: they read a greeting
to the community, did the first reading, and read the
petitions. This level of service was an amazing gift,
and because it was our school and religious education
students together, the masses very much revealed to me
our one community operating in Christ.
I’d like to circle back to the level of joy in our
young people that day. This was a big deal for them, a
very big deal. They were excited, and some of this
probably could be attributed to the fact that they had
family and friends visit and had parties to look forward
to in many cases. Yet I saw in them, and heard from
many, that they were excited about the sacrament
itself. This reminded me that Holy Eucharist is a true
miracle that occurs each Sunday, and each day at daily
mass. Jesus, we believe, literally comes to be
physically present to us and even a part of us. God
comes to us! Our children saw that reality. I’m sad to
say that I don’t always connect to that reality and depth
each mass, so they have inspired my own faith journey.
As a society, we often ask God for specific miracles,
and can get disappointed or disillusioned if He doesn’t
answer them in the exact way we request. This day
however reminded me that God is always giving us
miracles, and in Holy Eucharist, does this literally
daily. Our faith calls us to trust our Lord in that He
gives us the miracles we need, even if they aren’t the
ones we expect.
This week, may we look to the joy of our
young people as a sign of Christ present with us, and
may our spirits be renewed to see the true miracles
God blesses us with each day.
May God bless you and your family,
Mr. Coyle

Social Justice
Just as the commandment “thou shalt
not kill sets a clear limit in order to
safeguard the value of human life,
today we also have to say, ”Thou shalt
not” to an economy of exclusion and inequality. Such
an economy kills…the excluded are not the
“exploited”’ but the outcasts, the” leftovers”. – Pope
Francis, Joy of the Gospel, 2013
St. Vincent de Paul Society
