Sacred Heart—St. Louis Parish is a community of Christian believers characterized by
a farming tradition and devotion to the Holy Eucharist. We accept the mission to live
the Eucharist by loving God and letting his love flow through our parish ministries, our
community, and the lives of those we serve.
33rd Sunday in ordinary time: When Jesus comes again…
We are coming to the end of the Church (Liturgical) Year; next Sunday (22nd of November) we celebrate the
solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe. After next Sunday, we will begin the new Liturgical year with the first
Sunday of Advent (29th of November). The month of November is also a month dedicated to pray for the dead, and
thus the end of earthly life and beginning of new life. No wonder the scripture readings are focusing on these themes!
When we encounter such reflections regarding the end of times, Parousia, second coming, the natural feeling is to be
scared or anxious.
If you were to ask a child of our present century what it is for him the end of the world, he may respond in
terms of catastrophe and destruction. That is scary! But if we were to ask Jesus about the end times, He would respond
in terms of fullness and return (Parousia). He states emphatically that the Son of Man will return; not as He came to
proclaim the kingdom (Mark 1:15) and the time of mercy (Jn.3:17), but so that everything may be fulfilled (1
Cor.15:28). Then everyone will find his proper place (1 Cor. 14:2-3) and will get his reward each according to his
own works (Mt 16:27).
The preaching of Jesus focuses a lot on this concern in order to open our eyes to the premonitory signs regarding this end of the world; an end that will not be a fall into nothing but an entrance or transition into glory. This brings
us hope! However the time and hour still remain veiled or unknown to us. This is a secret that lies with God the
Father. He has not yet revealed it. That's why the Word (the Son) does not know. The Father has not expressed this
thought, because of His endless patience and unlimited benevolence (2 Peter 3:9). It is therefore needless to insist
(Acts 1:6-7) and ask: "Why?”. The inquisitive and curious disciples did not get the expected response when they
interrogated Jesus about the end times.
For the moment, the “when” may not concern us, nor is it helpful for us to know. The only thing that matters is
to know that this return of Christ or his second coming is certain. We therefore should prepare for it, otherwise it may
be too late (Mt 25:11-12; Luke 13:25). The upcoming holy season of advent is a perfect season to reflect on our own
preparation. If Jesus were to come today, would he find me prepared and ready? So instead of being anxious about the
end, “be vigilant at all times and pray always that you may have the strength to stand before the Son of Man” (Lk
21:36). Above all, let us not be afraid or anxious about our imperfections or unreadiness; let us always trust in the love
and mercy of God. Our lives are in the hands of God! Fr. Chrispine

Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Daniel 12:1-3
Hebrews 10:11-14, 18 Mark 13:24-32
Brief Reflection: Follower s of Chr ist live in the
radical trust that tribulations give way to greater glory.
This is it! The end is near! Next Sunday is the end of
our liturgical year. We can look back over the course of
the year and discover that we have celebrated our entire
story – from creation to the end times. Most importantly, we participated in the cycle of the Church year as
it rotates around the center of our faith, Jesus Christ –
from his first coming as an infant, to his death and
resurrection, and we look with hope to his coming
in glory.
