Weekly Reflection
Reflexión Semanal
Our loving families
El Amor en la Familia
Today’s readings and prayers speak to God’s loving
purpose in creating the family where the seeds of love
and faith are first sown. The gospel illustrates the example of the Holy Family. God entrusted Jesus to Mary
and Joseph’s care. They sought to provide Jesus with
the loving environment he needed to mature into an
adult. The episode of Jesus’ remaining in Jerusalem to
speak with the elders in the temple illustrates their efforts. Worried when they discovered Jesus was not
with the caravan, they searched and found him in the
temple. When they questioned him, they became perplexed by his explanation, “Did you not know that I must
be in my Father’s house?” Mary and Joseph did not
understand, but the episode resolved with Jesus’ obedient return to Nazareth where “[he] advanced in wisdom,
age, and favor before God and man.” This sentence
references Jesus’ journey from a young man to an
adult. Under Mary and Joseph’s loving guidance, Jesus
prepared to do his life’s work – save mankind. And it is
through His death and resurrection that we understand
the larger definition of family which John defines in his
epistle, “Beloved: see what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called
the children of God. And so we are.”
We have come to realize that Jesus
died for all of us; we are all brothers
and sisters who must bless one another with our gifts and talents. We
are on life’s journey together and
must strive to imitate the example of
the Holy Family. Pope Francis reminds us that “Faith grows when it is
lived and shaped by love. That is
why our families, our homes, are true
domestic churches.”
Buscaron proveerle a
hermanas y debemos bendecirnos unos a
amor. Es por esto que nuestras familias,
nuestros hogares, son verdaderamente iglesias domésticas.”
Our Lady of the Assumption Mission Statement

Participants must be on time in order to be admitted to a
session.
Did you Know?
Take a time out to communicate
Sometimes, kids need a place to go where they can say
what they want, and they won’t be immediately punished
or have to deal with a negative reaction. It’s important to
make sure your child has such a space or time – after
dinner conversations, an ice cream spot, riding home
from school – where they can tell you what’s on their
mind, good or bad, and you can just listen and discuss,
without taking the instant parental approach. If your children feel safe talking to you openly, you are better
equipped to notice and handle
any red flags in their lives. For a

scheduled as follows:
New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Day

though it is First Friday)
May your
new year be

we hope to
see you all
in mass to
celebrate the
new year.
Lord Jesus Christ,
you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father,
and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him.
Show us your face and we will be saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money;
the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness
only in created things;
made Peter weep after his betrayal,
and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words
that you spoke to the
Samaritan woman:
“If you knew the gift of God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible Father,
of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy:
let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord
risen and glorified.
You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in
weakness
in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error:
let everyone who approaches them feel sought after,
loved, and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its
anointing,
so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from
the Lord,
and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor,
proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed,
and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this through the intercession of
Mary, Mother of Mercy,
you who live and reign with the Father and
the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.
Amen

Jubileo de la Misericordia
Señor Jesucristo,
tú nos has enseñado a ser
misericordiosos como el Padre del
cielo,
esclavitud del dinero;
solamente en una creatura;
