One demands allegiance, the other requires personal commitment. In our families we daily lay down our lives for each other not because we ‘gotta’ but because love compels us. MISSION STATEMENT The Mission of The Parish of the Holy Cross is to serve God by sharing the Mystery of the Holy Trinity, the Love of the Father, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and our Devotion to Our Lady, the Mother of God, with all of God’s people. IMMIGRATION LEGAL ASSISTANCE The Camden Center for Law and Social Justice provides immigration legal assistance every other Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Rectory, from 1:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. The Food Pantry will be open on November 15 . GOOD SHEPHERD DINING ROOM Lunch served Monday-Friday, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM in St. Teresa of Avila Church Basement. MASS OF REMEMBRANCE “Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” The words of our Lord bring comfort as we share our faith and our prayers with one another in memory of those that have gone before us. November, the month of All Souls, is a time for remembering those loved ones who have gone to be with God. A special Mass of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 9:00 AM at St. Teresa of Avila Church. We invite all parishioners of the Parish of the Holy Cross to join us in this special Mass. Page 4 October 26, 2014 – Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Stewards Put God First Los Servidores Ponen a Dios Primero "Whoever sacrifices to any god, except to the Lord alone, shall be put under the ban.” – Exodus 22:19 Do you put other “gods” before God? Is your love of money, power, status or some personal possession greater than your love for God? If so, you may want to pay attention to the scripture reading because you are not going to like the outcome. The good news – it’s not too late to put God first through the Stewardship in your life. RECENT PARISH FUNDRAISING EVENTS…THANK YOU! I want to use my Pastor’s Desk column this week to say a big THANK YOU to all of you, our parishioners, for your financial support every weekend and for supporting the various fundraising events we hold throughout the year. Thank you especially to those who work so hard to organize and volunteer at our events. Whether it is baking cakes, selling tickets, or donating gifts for auctions, it all takes time and effort. I know that and I appreciate your love for Holy Cross and our Catholic Faith. Because of your generosity we continue to stay on budget, pay down our debt, and now we seek to enhance the beauty of our Churches and Church properties. I was encouraged by parishioners to re-start our Parish Bingo this year and can report that it is off to a great start. Our Bingo is well organized by a great team and all who attend give us positive reviews. If you have not joined us on a Tuesday, I encourage you to stop by because everyone has fun (especially the winners ☺). Thanks also to our Spanish community for their twice a year Dinner Dance and Kermes socials after the 12 noon Mass that raises important revenue for the parish.
