2015Sept20 - St. Mary Catholic Church

Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
September 20, 2015

Sunday Children’s Liturgy
Children’s Liturgy is for children ages K-3rd grade. We will
begin on September 20, 2015. Please check the bulletin for
holiday schedule changes. During Mass, children will be called
forward prior to the readings to leave with the teachers and will
return to their families at the Presentation of the Gifts.
The Children’s Liturgy program has received funding from a
“special gift” donation that will enable us to offer another year
of this wonderful ministry to our parish children. Thank you for
your support in assisting our children along their spiritual
journey. You, and all those who help the children, are a
blessing to the parish.
Family Faith Sharing
25th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mark 9:30-37
In the Gospel today we see Jesus and His disciples journeying
through Galilee. Jesus is again telling of His coming passion
and resurrection but the disciples do not understand. The
disciples begin arguing about who is greatest among them.
Jesus tells them, “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be
the last of all and the servant of all.” This teaching tells us
about behavior and attitude. We offer our efforts in the
service of others to make life better for them in some way.

Why do you think Jesus had to tell His disciples about
service? What are some ways we can offer service to
others? Make a plan with your family to participate in some
kind of service to others this year.

“First 1000 Days” Campaign
A Catholic Culture of Life Initiative
The 1000 days from conception through a child’s second
birthday are the most crucial for a child’s development.
These 1000 days are our best opportunity to shape a
healthier, more prosperous future for the child. All children.
Where All Are Welcomed and Loved With Mercy
Day189- “The fundamental human right, the presupposition
of every other right, is the right to life itself. This is true of
life from the moment of conception until its natural end.
Abortion, consequently, cannot be a human right -- it is the
very opposite. It is a deep wound in society.”

RCIA SPONSORS
Would you like to be considered for the privilege of walking
with a candidate through the RCIA process? Being a sponsor
is an important and integral part of this process. A sponsor
puts a human face on the Church, in other words, it allows the
candidate to have a lay person’s perspective of what it means
to be Catholic.
Qualifications do not include being a
theologian but requires only a warm hearted person to relate
his/her love of Christ and His Church with a candidate
journeying to the Easter Sacraments.
For further information or to sign up please contact
Geri Heideman, the new RCIA Sponsor Coordinator,
at 541-517-2779, or Deacon Tom at 541-342-1139.
St. Francis Home-school Co-op
The St. Francis Home-school Co-op is comprised of
homeschooling families from several Catholic parishes in the
area seeking to build community, friendship, and faith. Our
activities include enrichment class, recreation, field trips,
seasonal events as well as opportunities for children and
parents alike to build friendships.

EXCERPTS FROM THE BOOK “REBUILT”
By Fr. Michael White and Tom Corcoran
Church communities are living organs. They get bigger and
they get smaller all the time. There are churches in seasons
of growth because they’re in growing communities. Their
growth is unintentional or, at least, automatic….
That’s what happens to churches these days. Organized
religion is in free fall, with membership dwindling and
congregations dying daily. Today thousands and thousands
of churches are in a pattern of accelerated decline, others in
slow but steady decline. Some studies estimate that as many
as 95 percent of Christian churches in growing communities
are no longer immune from attrition and erosion. A lot of
churches just aren’t going to survive, unless they become
intentionally growing churches, not just maintaining members,
but attracting them.
God doesn’t want His Church to fail. And He’s assured us it

So, how do we do it? How do we make our parish church
grow? Wrong question. We don’t make it grow; only God
does that. As St. Paul teaches, God is the agent of growth in
His Church:
“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God caused the
growth. Therefore, neither the one who plants nor the one
who waters is anything, but only God, who causes the
growth….For we are God’s fellow workers.” (1 Corinthians
3:6-7, 9).

40 Days for Life-Eugene
The goal of this year’s 40 Days for Life is to shut down and
defund the Planned Parenthood in Springfield. This is only
possible through the effort of each of us. 40 Days for Life is
like a second lent – of prayer and fasting – but the underlying
intention is for the dignity of all human life (the unborn, the
elderly, the handicapped, the terminally ill, the enemy and the
guilty). Pray on it. 40 Days for life begins September 23 and
ends November 21.
As part of 40 Days for Life, volunteers are asked to
participate in a prayer vigil outside of Planned Parenthood. It
is a completely peaceful, legal and prayerful activity, with the
purpose of praying for a conversion of heart for those
performing abortions, those funding them, and those
considering having them. If you are interested please contact

La Iglesia Católica y el Plan de Dios para Ti
Cristianismo Incompleto No Basta
(Parte 38)
En las últimas décadas muchos católicos han
dejado a la Iglesia, muchos retirándose por
completo a toda religión, muchos otros afiliándose
a otras iglesias.
