April 19, 2015 - Third Sunday of Easter
Dear Parish Family“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.”
Meister Eckhart, O.P.
Please join me in prayerful thanksgiving for the many years of service Sr. Eileen Ivory, O.P. has given to our parish
family. On Divine Mercy Sunday the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell held their leadership election and Sr. Eileen
was elected a ‘Councilor’ to the Prioress of her Congregation! This is a great honor and recognizes her leadership
abilities in assisting the Prioress (head of her Religious Community) in the governance of the Congregation.
Some of you know that Sr. Eileen was elected co-chair of the Caldwell Dominican General Chapter two years ago
and successfully navigated the Community through the two year process of the General Chapter.
A General Chapter is a meeting of all the members of a Vowed Religious Community for the purpose of deliberating on the affairs of the community, its’ rule, mission, to evaluate the past and look to the future among other
things. The General Chapter concludes with an election of new leadership for a term set by the Rule of the Community.
Sr. Eileen had been nominated for Prioress however she asked that her name be withdrawn. I mention this because it shows the esteem and trust her community holds for her. They were not going to let her off so easily
though and she was then nominated for a Council position and she consented to her name being nominated for
one of three Councilor positions. She has been elected to a term of 5 years. It is a full time position requiring her
presence in Caldwell, N.J.
Sister Eileen will conclude her pastoral assignment with us on June 30th and assume her new duties on July 1. I
know I can say we will all miss her terribly but we also wish her well in her new assignment. Her community
knew they had a gem and a good leader! It can also be said we concur that she is a gem!
Congratulations Sister Eileen Ivory!
“And suddenly you know: it’s time to start something new and trust in the magic of beginnings”, Meister Eckhart,
O.P.
Peace and Good – Fr. Bambrick

Calling all RCIA Old Timers! If you have gone through the RCIA process or Adult Confirmation Classes
at St. Al's or any other Catholic parish, we would like to invite you to a monthly gathering of "Keeping
Current" which meets every 3rd Sunday of the month at 9:30 a.m. in the Parish Office. We'll share our
faith, talk about our experiences since initiation, and engage in continued education in the faith. Our
next session will be Sunday, April 19. There is no need to RSVP, but if you'd like to, or like more info,
please contact Jen.
Faith Sharing Group - The Merton Faith Sharing group meets each Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish
Office. All are welcome. If you would you like to be a member of this faith sharing group please call
Sister Eileen at the Parish Office on ext. 206.
God is Calling You!!!!! God calls each of us into a deeper relationship each day. If you are not Catholic,
or if you are a Catholic who has not received all of your Sacraments, come check out the RCIA (Rite of
Christian Initiation of Adults). See if full participation in the Church is what God is calling you to. Most
Tuesday nights, from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Parish Office, we have informal sessions where you can
come, ask questions and find out if this is right for you. Our next class will be on Tuesday, April 21 at
7:00 p.m. There is no commitment when you come to Inquiry, but if you want to pursue initiation, we’ll
tell you what steps need to be taken. Join us for Inquiry, check the parish website or call Deacon Al in the
Parish Office at 732-370-0500 ext. 208 for information.
Attention Catholics Who Are Not Confirmed… If you are an adult and have not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation, this is the class for you. We meet most Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. (and once a month on the first Tuesday, at
7:00 p.m.). Our next meeting date will be Tuesday, April 21 at 8:00 p.m. The class is conversational, adult learning
with a little bit of required reading. You will learn A LOT about the Bible, your faith and yourself. For more information please contact Deacon Al in the Parish Office at 732-370-0500 ext. 208.
Breaking Open the Word...At Church! For years, now, Sr. Eileen and Jen have been offering reflection
questions on the Sunday readings for families to share at home. After the 10:30 a.m. Mass, Jen offers
an opportunity to Break Open the Word at Church. Anyone who would like to is welcome to join Jen
in the Cafeteria for a quick exegesis (explanation of the readings) and some questions for faith sharing. The whole thing lasts approximately 30 minutes. We will provide questions for all age groups.
You can sit with your family, grab a group of friends, or meet new people to share with. For more information, contact Jen at the Parish Office. No need to register for this--it will be pretty informal. Just come on by, and if you want
to, bring a Bible! Please Note: Our next date is Sunday, April 19.
Protecting God's Children - Making the Church a safe environment for all, particularly children and atrisk adults, is a major priority of the administration and staff of Saint Aloysius Church. Please take a look
at the posters and "Safe Environment & Standards of Conduct Policy" that are posted on the bulletin
board in the Gathering Space of the Church. You may also see what we have in place by clicking the banner on our parish website, or typing in: www.saintaloysiusonline.org/protecting-children. If you have any
questions or would like to learn more about how to make our church, homes and community safer, please
contact Jen at 732-370-0500, ext. 205 or email [email protected]. Please note: The Diocese of Trenton

April 19, 2015 - Third Sunday of Easter
Breaking Open the Word at Home by Sister Eileen Ivory, O.P.
The two disciples recounted what had taken place on the way,
and how Jesus was made known to them in the breaking of bread.
And so begins today’s Gospel from Luke. This might be considered a very simple
explanation of what Mass is. First we share the stories of our common journey…the readings from Scripture which
begin each Mass. Then we encounter Christ as we receive the bread that is broken on our behalf. In order to
prove that it is really he, Jesus does some pretty down to earth human things…he shows his wounds, he asks for
food, he eats. It is a reminder that it is in the ordinary that we still meet Jesus…ordinary events, ordinary people. It
is important if we are to remain faithful that we talk about Jesus, that we break bread together and then we go
beyond ourselves to helping others recognize Jesus along the way.
Kids: What do you talk about a lot? Why do you do that? Do you ever talk about Jesus? To whom? What are
some things you say?
Teens: We really need to keep our eyes open so as to recognize Jesus when we meet him. When in the last 24
hours have you encountered Jesus? If you say you haven’t then please take a few quiet moments to review the past
day. Who did you speak with? Who did you notice? Who did you shy away from? Who were you happy to be
with? Where was Jesus?
Adults: Where do you encounter Jesus? Do you believe Jesus can be found through others? Can you recall anyone in whom you found Jesus? Be alert throughout the day.
