LISTEN AND FOLLOW
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” And listen
they did. From that moment on, Peter, James, and John
were ardent followers, forsaking everything to follow in
their Master’s footsteps. Like the psalmist crying, “O
Lord, I am your servant,” the three disciples committed
themselves to lives of incredible hardship and indescribable joy. After that day on the mountain, they
never again wavered in their chosen vocation.
Though our tests may not be as severe as Abraham’s and our peak experiences not as dramatic as the
Transfiguration, we all face the
daily challenges of walking
“before the Lord in the land of
the living.” As we follow our varied calls to love and serve, let’s
be comforted by Paul’s reminder
to the Romans: “If God is for us,
who can be against us?”

Second Sunday of Lent
ESCUCHA Y SIGUE
Tal
como proclama el salmista,
“Señor, he aquí tu servidor”, los
nuestra?” Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

If you are new to St. Clare Parish—welcome. Every Friday of Lent we have our
“world famous” (or at least Santa Clarita famous) - Fish Fry.
Dinners are served between 4:30pm and 8pm.
$10 buys you a 3 generous pieces beer battered fish served with
coleslaw, french fries (or rice pilaf) and a roll.
If you prefer a smaller meal—you can purchase a 2 piece meal for $9.
Beer, wine and soda will be sold separately and
each week one of our ministries prepares and sells desserts.
Please plan on joining us on Fridays between February 20th and March 27th.
Bring your friends and family!
If you have a prolific citrus—laden with
lemons –we could use them! Please
bring lemons to St. Clare so that we can
use them for fish fry! You can take them
to the kitchen or bring them by the Parish Office.

THE POPE ROOM
Please make sure to drop by the “blue room” off the
youth hall when you come to the fish fry. It is truly a
spectacular site to see every pope from Peter to
Francis. Thanks to Jorge and Ana De Hoyos for their
tremendous effort (at Carlos Acosta’s suggestion.)
It really is an impressive sight to “find the Popes in
the Fish Fry.”

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS
Gospel Reading for the Second Sunday of Lent
Mark 9:2-10
Family Reflection: Lent is meant to be our time of
transfiguration. What change needs to occur in us so
that we truly listen to God’s message for us? What
change needs to occur within your family in order to
foster discipleship of each family member?
Join students and families from our Religious Education Program
in praying the Stations of the Cross on Friday, March 6th following the 7:30PM Mass in the church. Come early and enjoy dinner
at the St. Clare Fish Fry. Students from grades 4th-8th will be
participating.
At Home - Family Lenten Activities
Adapted from Family Nights Lent/Easter by Terry & Mimi Reilly
Creating a Lenten Prayer Jar
For younger children…
Materials needed: 1 large jar with lid, glue, old
magazines, scissors and plain paper.
How To: Have children look up pictures of God’s
creations on earth. How does God use nature
to speak to us? Use the pictures to decorate
the outside of the jar. Children may also use
their own drawings. Help your children write 34 prayers of Thanksgiving for the various ways
God’s speaks to us through nature. Encourage
children to also pray for people in their lives
that also bring God to them. Each week add a
new prayer, written by each family member,
into the jar.
Bringing Reconciliation into the Home
For older children and teens…
Renewal is what takes place within us and is
ever so personal between each of us and God.
Reconciliation flows from a renewed spirit just
like sun rays comes from the sun itself. In
reconciliation there is peace.
Activity: Read 2 Timothy 1:8-10.
Have each member of the family write a letter
answering these questions: Who am I? How can
I spread peace in the family?
Exchange the letters with one another and
either read out loud or silently.
habla?
—Anónimo
THE ART OF LISTENING
If you want God to listen to you when you pray, shouldn’t you listen to God when God
speaks to you?

REMEMBER THE SOWER
Every Tuesday at 7pm in the Church join us
for music, prayer and praise. The Sower
has joined us at St. Clare—check it out!
“God’s Time Will Come”
Are you suffering because someone dear to you
has stopped practicing the faith or has left the
Church altogether? If so, St. Clare’s has a prayer
group which meets in the Church every Friday at
7:30 pm. We begin with the celebration of the
Mass and complete with devotions specifically for
the intentions of bringing our loved ones back into
the active participation of the faith.
Please join us in lifting our voices in prayer.
