2016-17 MASTER CALENDAR
On behalf of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District (NLMUSD), we hope the school year has gone
well for your children and for you. This short letter is meant to inform you about an effort within the District
regarding the school calendar for the 2016-2017 school year.
The effort referred to is the negotiation and planning for a 2016-2017 school year that would begin in
August instead of September. To that end the District has assembled a calendar committee that includes
both employee bargaining units (TANLA & CSEA) and key District managers. This committee felt it would be
imperative to inform the parents of the District’s community regarding the effort and to provide avenues for
gaining information, asking questions, or voicing comments. The avenues available to you for questions
and information are the following:
1. Accessing the District’s webpage (nlmusd.org) where you can submit your questions and
comments. If you desire to receive a response to a question, it is suggested you leave an e-mail
address. Also, please identify yourself (no names) as either a parent, staff, or community member.
2. Attend one of two community informational forums scheduled for the evening, 6:00-7:00 p.m.
The first one will take place on May 7TH in the La Mirada High School Multi-Purpose Room (MPR).
The second will take place on May 14TH in the District office School Board meeting room.
3. Attend your children’s school Site Council or ELAC parent advisory group, or contact your
children’s school administration personnel. This would allow individuals from those groups to
submit your questions and comments to the calendar committee on your behalf.

CALENDARIO ESCOLAR 2016-17
En nombre del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Norwalk-La Mirada (NLMUSD, por sus siglas en inglés),
esperamos que el año escolar haya marchado bien para usted y sus hijos. Esta breve carta es para informarle
acerca del esfuerzo dentro del Distrito con respecto al calendario escolar para el año escolar 2016-2017.
El esfuerzo referido es la negociación y la planificación para el año escolar 2016-2017 que comenzará en
agosto en lugar de septiembre. Con este fin el Distrito ha reunido un comité de calendario que incluye
ambas unidades de negociación de empleados (TANLA y CSEA) y gerentes clave del distrito. Este comité
consideró que sería indispensable informar a los padres de la comunidad del Distrito con respecto a los
esfuerzos y proporcionar avenidas para obtener información, hacer preguntas o expresar comentarios. Las
avenidas disponibles a usted para preguntas e información son las siguientes:
1. Acceso a la página de web del Distrito (nlmusd.org) donde puede enviar sus preguntas y
comentarios. Si usted desea recibir una respuesta a una pregunta, se sugiere que usted deje una
dirección de correo electrónico. También, por favor, identifíquese (sin nombres) ya sea como
padre, personal, o miembro de la comunidad.
2. Asistir a uno de los dos foros informativos comunitarios programados para la noche, de 6:00-7:00
pm. La primera de ellas se llevara a cabo el 7 de mayo en la escuela secundaria La Mirada en el
salón de multi-usos (MPR). La segunda se llevara a cabo el 14 de mayo en el salón de reuniones
de la Junta de Educación Escolar en la oficina del Distrito.
3. Asistir al Concilio del Sitio Escolar o el grupo concejal de padres ELAC de sus hijos, o póngase en
contacto con el personal de administración de la escuela de sus hijos. Esto permitiría a los
individuos de esos grupos presentar sus preguntas y comentarios, de su parte, al comité del
calendario.
