“The permanent quality of this church dedicated to St. Joseph reminds us that
Christ will remain with his People until mortal time ceases. It will be to this
church that parishioners will bring their lives filled with both joy and sorrows
and join them to Christ, who offers the perfect sacrifice to the Father. It will be
from this church that Grace of the Sacrament will radiate for the building-up of
the kingdom and for the sanctification of souls. It will be at this church where
people will find nourishment and strength, communion and peace, unity and
friendship.” John Cardinal O’Connor.

PENTECOST SUNDAY
First Reading: Acts 2:1-11
During the Feast of Pentecost, tongues of fire came to rest
on the heads of the disciples and they were filled with the
Holy Spirit. Each disciple began speaking in a different
language, and were understood by people from many
different regions who were amazed at what they had
witnessed.
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13
Paul explains that we are all members of one body. We have
all been baptized in one Spirit and although numerous, we
are one through Christ.
Gospel: John 20:19-23
John describes Jesus’ first visit to the disciples after his
resurrection. He gave them the Holy Spirit and the power to
forgive other people or hold them responsible for their
actions.
The Pentecost event is so well known. The signs of fire, wind
and noise accompany the transforming power of the Holy
Spirit. What was is no more, as the fear which brought them
together was unlocked as were the doors and a new era began.
The Spirit which Jesus breathed into the apostles became
the breath of new life for the church as the Spirit of God
sent them to renew the face of the earth. As the doors were
opened, the windows of Aggiornamento of Pope Saint John
23rd allowed new life to spring forth in the church.
The Spirit comes to us in our weakness today, as we do not
have all the answers but He intercedes for us, allowing us to
be spirit driven to bring the gospel to our waiting world.
PENTECOST SUNDAY
MAY 24
Novena Prayer
O Lord Jesus Christ, Who, before ascending into heaven, did
promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the souls
of Your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy
Spirit to me that He may perfect in my soul, the work of Your
grace and Your love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may
despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after
the things that are eternal, the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your divine truth, the Spirit of
Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God
and gaining heaven, the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my
cross with You and that I may overcome with courage all the
obstacles that oppose my salvation, the Spirit of Knowledge
that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the
science of the Saints, the Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable, and the Spirit of Fear that I may
be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in
any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of
Your true disciples and animate me in all things with Your Spirit.
Amen.

DOMINGO DE PENTECOSTES 24 DE MAYO
Oracion de la Novena
DOMINGO DE PENTECOSTÉS
Primera Lectura: Hechos 2:1-11
pueda siempre conocer y hacer tu santa voluntad. Hazme
prudente y audaz. Bendito Espíritu de Fortaleza, vigoriza mi
alma en tiempo de prueba y adversidad. Dame lealtad y confianza.
