from this church that Grace of the Sacrament will radiate for the building-up of
the kingdom and for the sanctification of souls. It will be at this church where
people will find nourishment and strength, communion and peace, unity and

PENTECOST SUNDAY
MAY 24
Novena Prayer in Preparation
for Pentecost Sunday
SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
First Reading: Acts 1:15-17, 20a, 20c-26
The disciples decided that someone should take the place of
Judas, who killed himself in remorse for betraying Jesus.
They nominated two who had been among them from the
time of Jesus’ baptism to the crucifixion. Then they drew
lots to decide who would join them as witnesses of the
resurrection.
Second Reading: I John 4:11-16
John reminds us that God dwells in those who love one
another. We have come to know God’s love for us. Only by
loving one another can we be sure that God will remain with
us always.
Gospel: John 17:11b-19
Jesus prays for his disciples at the Last Supper. He knows
that by knowing the word of God as they do, they no longer
belong to the world. He asks that God consecrate them in
truth and protect them from the enemies they have made
because of their belief in Jesus.
Reading the Acts of the Apostles we are constantly reminded of the role and the power of the Holy Spirit. The group of
eleven and their companions depended on the grace and
power of the Spirit to direct them in their new found mission. In sports language, the Holy Spirit was the twelfth person on the field. They knew they needed outside help.
It is no different today. The church calls us all to ministry,
some ordained, some consecrated, all dedicated to the
building of His kingdom. The Spirit speaks to you as you read
today, expressing the need as well as the call. We too pray
Oh, ‘Lord, you know my heart, show me what you want me
to do for your church.’
O Lord Jesus Christ, Who, before ascending into heaven, did
promise to send the Holy Spirit
to finish Your work in the souls of Your Apostles and Disciples,
deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in
my soul, the work of Your grace and Your love. Grant me the
Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this
world and aspire only after the things that are eternal, the Spirit
of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your
divine truth, the Spirit of Counsel that I may ever choose the
surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven, the Spirit of
Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and that I may
overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation, the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know
myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints, the Spirit
of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable,
and the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him.
Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of Your true disciples and
animate me in all things with Your Spirit. Amen.
Saint Joseph’s Church welcomes Seminarian Christian
Amah this summer. He has been assigned by Saint Joseph
Seminary here at our Parish this summer. He was born
and raised in Nigeria where he began his religious studies
to the Catholic Priesthood. In 2010 he took times off and
came to the United States. After a time of discernment he
was accepted in the Archdiocese of New York, where he
has been studying for the past four years. For the past two
summers he had completed his summer assignment at St.
Gregory Barbarigo Church, Garnersville, NY. I ask you to
please welcome him with open arms and hearts full of
prayer. Please pray for all our Seminarians on summer
assignments and those who will be ordained this year to
the priesthood. God bless you. Fr. Levelt Germain.
MES DE MAYO
Meditación Diaria del Santo Rosario
6:30pm-7:30pm (en la Iglesia)
SÉPTIMO DOMINGO DE PASCUA
Primera Lectura: Hechos 1:15-17, 20a, 20c-26
