Today is WORLD MISSION SUNDAY
Every year the needs of the Catholic Church in the Missions grow - as new dioceses
are formed, as new seminaries are opened because of the growing number of
young men hearing Christ’s call to follow Him as priests, as areas devastated by
war or natural disaster are rebuilt, and as other areas, long suppressed, are opening
up to hear the message of Christ and His Church. That is why the involvement
and commitment of Catholics from around the world is so urgently needed.
Your support is vital to the missionaries serving in 1,150 dioceses throughout
Asia, Africa, parts of Latin America and Europe, and on the Islands of the Pacific.
For this year’s World Mission Sunday celebration, we are focusing on the words from St. Matthew’s Gospel,
“I Will Build My Church” (Matthew 16:18), highlighting the outreach of local churches through priests, religious
and laity among the poor and marginalized half a world away.
Let us celebrate World Mission Sunday today by recommitting ourselves to the Church’s missionary activity through prayer
and sacrifice. Please use the special envelopes provided or simply put your contribution in the second collection.
Celebrating God’s Love as a Community.

October
Month
of the
Holy
Rosary
Do you resist paying taxes or obeying authorities? Do you always
disagree with a particular person at work or in your household?
Do you need people to do as you say? Are you afraid of making
decisions? Of saying “no”? If so, you are engaged in struggles
over your own and others’ power in your life. This week’s
scriptures provide a way of resolving many of those struggles
without taking sides.
The readings leave little doubt as to who holds the real power
in the world. It is “the LORD, and there is no other” (Isaiah
45:6) who anoints Cyrus and grasps him by the right hand
(the hand of power), making him victorious and giving the
Israelites their freedom. The psalm tells us to give glory and
honor to the Lord, who is “beyond all gods” and “governs
the peoples with equity” (Psalm 96:4, 10). Paul gives thanks
to God, whose power is at work in the gospel Paul preached
and in the Thessalonians themselves. Finally, in Jesus’ power
struggle with the Pharisees, he says, “Repay . . . to God what
belongs to God” (Matthew 22:21). God is the power above all
human powers-in government, business, the Church, and our
own families. We owe God all “glory and honor” (Psalm 96:7),
thanks, loyalty, and our lives. Copyright © 2007, WLP. All righst reserved.
Today’s Readings
First Reading — The LORD said to Cyrus, his anointed, “I am the
LORD, there is no other” (Isaiah 45:1, 4-6).
Psalm — Give the Lord glory and honor (Psalm 96).
Second Reading — Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy to the church of
the Thessalonians: We thank God always for all of you
(1 Thessalonians 1:1-5b).
Gospel — Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is
God’s (Matthew 22:15-21).

Our shirt drive continues for
one more week. We still need
to collect more long sleeve
shirts for the farm workers
assisted by St Ann’s Mission

flannel, they are thicker and
hold up better against the
pesticides used in the fields.
Please drop the shirts in the box at the main
entrance of church. This is our last week, the
collection drive ends on Sunday October 26.

We have selected our first Community Service Learning project for the school year.
The students have been and will continue learning about the Seven Themes of Catholic
Social Justice Issues. The issue we are addressing right now is the Dignity of Work
and the Rights of Workers.
As you may be aware, many immigrants are currently the ones who are harvesting
crops, tending the grounds and doing other forms of farm work. These men, women
and children are out in extreme weather and exposed to harmful chemicals that are
found in the pesticides used on these farms. There is a great need to provide them
with proper attire to protect them from these harmful chemicals.
We have teamed up with our parish groups and St. Ann’s Mission to address this need.
We are collecting long sleeve shirts in all sizes for men, women and children.
This collection will continue until the end of the month. Please participate and support
this great cause that is affecting the lives of many.

Lit pou pouvwa
Ou reziste oswa obeyi otorite, eske ou eseye pa paye taks ou?
Eske ou toujou pa dakò avèk yon moun an patikilye nan travay
Lekti
semèn sa a ba nou yon fason pou nou rezoud pwoblèm sa a yo
san pati pri.
Lekti yo montre nou san dout kiyès ki vrèman kenbe
pouvwa nan mond lan.
(Ezayi 45:6) ki chwazi Cyrus kenben men dwat li (men ki gen
pouvwa li ki ap travay nan levanjil li t’ap mache preche a e tou
pou mesaj li te mete nan kè moun Tesalonisyen yo.
Finalman, nan lit Jezi ak farizyen yo, li te di, “Repeye. . . bay
Bondye sa nou dwe bay Bondye“ (Matye 22:21). Bondye se pouvwa
ki sipase tout lòt pouvwa yo, gouvènman yo, biznis, menm Legliz
la, ak pwòp fanmi nou tou. Nou dwe Bondye tout “lwanj, respè”
(Sòm 95: 7), remèsiman, lwayote, ak lavi nou.
Bay Bondye sa nou dwe
bay Bondye“ (Matye 22:21)

a nuestro Señor Jesucristo”.
