Weekly Reflection
Reflexión Semanal
Resting in the Father’s love
Descansar en el amor del Padre
The stories in today’s readings depict the loving power
of God as he responds to the fear of his people. These
scenarios reference water and the terror it can provoke
in those who witness its power. In the Old Testament
reading, the Lord questions Job as a storm is raging,
and reminds him that it is God who manifests his power
over the waters when he commands, “Thus far shall
you, [the water], come but no farther, and here shall
your proud waves be stilled!” In the responsorial
psalm, God the Father hears the cries of distress from
“they who sailed the sea in ships” as he “hushed the
storm to a gentle breeze and the billows of the sea
were stilled.” Mark’s gospel recounts Jesus responding to the voiced terror of the apostles, as “the waves
were breaking over the boat,” with the same actions as
his Father when he says,” Quiet! Be Still! The wind
ceased and there was a great calm.” Three different
times, God’s love is made manifest
by his power to care for his people.
These examples of God’s unfailing
love cause us to look at our own
fathers and those who care for us in
a fatherly way. The role of the father as the head of the family is one
that carries the responsibilities of
providing shelter, food, and security. As children we look to our fathers, just as we look to our Heavenly Father, to reassure us as we
find confidence in their strength.
We are inspired on this beautiful
Father’s Day to offer prayers of
thanksgiving as we ask God to continue to guide our fathers whom he
“has set firm on the foundation of
his love” (Collect).

Did You Know?
Opportunity for Adult Faith Formation
The important impact of fathers and
father figures on children
Are you looking for a way this summer to continue to grow deeper in
your faith journey and relationship
with God? Are you hoping for an
experience of a small faith group,
or are you considering becoming
Catholic and receiving the sacraments of initiation? Then welcome
to our summer Adult Faith Formation series hosted by the Women's & Men's Ministries and the RCIA team. For 6 successive Wednesday evenings beginning June 24 from
7:00-8:30 pm, these ministries will host and facilitate a
series based on Fr. Albert Haase' book “Catching Fire,
Becoming Flame”. Each evening will be centered on a 30
minute video created by Fr. Albert based on 6 themes
from his book. We’ll then break into small groups, and
enjoy some time for praise and worship. There will be no
cost for this series, since it is hosted by members of our
own parish. For this reason we ask all who are interested in attending to register with Kati Excallier
([email protected] - 642-7966 ext. 142) so we can
be sure to plan according to the level of overall interest.
Whether you’ve seen a child light up when you encourage them, succeed with a little bit of mentoring, or problem solve after lending your listening ear, it is clear that
fathers and father figures are a gift in the life of children.
While nothing can replace the presence of
a father, many of us
know from experience
the influence that other trusted adults can
have on the life of children. Children thrive
when they have adults
that they can trust and
learn from. For complete VIRTUS® Article
