PASTOR Fr. Tom Baker ASSOCIATE PASTORS Fr. Gerald Osuagwu Fr. Raymont Medina BAPTISMS English: 3rd Saturday of each month. Call 948-3011. Spanish: El primer Sabado de cada mes. Llame 942-7853. Pastors Corner Oct 25, 2015 Page 2 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time Priesthood Sunday Today has been designated as Priesthood Sunday. In our second reading from the letter to the Hebrews we hear: “Every high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he himself is beset by weakness.” Please pray for your priests, who are your representatives before God yet are human and prone to error and sin. May the words of the blind man, Bartimaeus, from today‟s gospel, be your words, „Master, I want to see.” May you see in the priest, the person of Jesus Christ, and hear from his lips the words of Jesus: “go your way, your faith has saved you.” And may these words from St. John Paul the Great inspire others to answer the call to priesthood: “Do not be afraid to break out of comfortable and routine modes of living, in order to take up the challenge o making Christ known in the modern „metropolis‟. It is you who must „go out into the byroads‟ (Mt 22:9) and invite everyone you meet to the banquet which God has prepared for his people. The Gospel must not be kept hidden because of fear or indifference. It was never meant to be hidden away in private. It has to be put on a stand so that people may see its light and give praise to our heavenly Father (cf. Mt 5:15-16).” Please pray for more vocations to the priesthood and religious life and especially, on this Priesthood Sunday, pray for all priests. Peace. Fr. Tom Year of Mercy – As the Year of Mercy nears (it begins Dec. 8, 2015), the San Fernando Pastoral Region will have a Divine Mercy Regional Congress. This event is scheduled for Sat., Dec. 5 at St. Genevieve Church, Panorama City. The cost is only $10 but will go up to $20 after Nov. 1. In the vestibule of the Church there is a poster for more details. Paz. P. Tomás. Thank you.. In the Spotlight Mr. David Schatz: Sacred Heart School Principal I had the privilege of attending Catholic School from Kindergarten through 8th grade while growing up in Mandan, ND. I attended a Catholic University in Bismarck, ND: The University of Mary. Shortly after moving to California in 1989 I attended CSUB and received my MA is school administration. I grew up in a large family; I was the fourth of six kids. Currently, my wife and I have two teenage children and we've been married for 22 years. We've been members of Sacred Heart Parish for 14 years, I've been a member of the Knights Council here for 14 years, and the Sacred Heart School principal for 9 years. My faith affects my mission in working at Sacred Heart School. I am a huge believer in treating others with deep respect, as Jesus would. I love coming to work each day to witness others who are examples of their own faith, to lead as Pope Francis leads us all, and to give more every day than I receive. The greatest challenge I face is maintaining an outstanding, high level education while keeping the cost affordable to all families. The greatest blessing with my role as the school principal was having the privilege of administrating a school with an excellent reputation in the Antelope Valley and then being able take it to the level it is today. Lastly, it is always a treat at the end of each school year to see how well all of the students have progressed and how well our graduates are prepared for their futures.
