WHAT IS YOUR STORY?
Do you have a story you would like to share about
a priest; a nun; a layman or laywoman; or, perhaps,
the Holy Spirit Community? If you have a story and
are willing to share it, please join us for “The Spirit
Working in our Hearts: The Personal Stories of
Holy Spirit Catholic Church” on Sunday, Nov.
23rd, at 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Church.
If you are unable to join us, there is a form
available on the website at www.holyspirit-indy.org
or you may contact Ginny Haag at: 317-895-8902 or
[email protected] to set up a time to share your
story. We hope many of you will attend to share
your precious memories of our Church and our
Church family.
Dear Friends of Holy Spirit,
As we prepare for next weekend when we will celebrate Intention Sunday for the United Catholic Appeal,
I would like to share a couple stories.
In 1965, I entered the seminary as a young high
school student. At the time, the room, board and tuition
for my education was $800 a year! However, coming
from a family of nine, my parents were not able to pick
up any of this cost. The Archdiocese paid my education
cost for all 12 years of education leading up to my ordination in 1977. And when I say “Archdiocese”, I am
really saying YOU paid for my education. Thank you for
helping me become a priest. The Archdiocese continues to support seminarians today and in their names,
“Thank You!”
It was around 1977, as a young priest, that I visited a
priest friend in Henderson, Kentucky. Fr. John Vaughan
was three years older than me, and he was serving as
the associate pastor of Holy Name Parish. During our
discussions, John shared with me that he gave every
week into the parish collection. At first, I was surprised
since as a priest, he had dedicated his life to the church
which seemed like enough. But John said, “How can I
expect other people to support the church if I do not set
the example?” This really hit me! It was soon thereafter
that I began the process of giving financially to my
parish and later to the Archdiocese through the United
Catholic Appeal.
Perla Vasquez and Dante Sanchez (1)
Giving should always flow from gratitude. Counting
our blessings, we are called to give back. So I ask each
of you to join with me next weekend to submit our
pledge to the United Catholic Appeal, both for the parish
and the Archdiocese.
God’s Blessings and Love,
Seasons of Hope
a bereavement support group
program, will be Monday evenings,
for six consecutive weeks. Anyone
who is mourning the loss of a loved
one is encouraged to attend. Please join us downstairs
in the parish center on the following Mondays:
November 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2014 from 7-9 pm.

CHRISTMAS PROJECT COMING SOON!
The Giving Trees and the ornaments will be up
and ready to go the weekend of November 7th,
2014. By having the trees up a little earlier, it will
allow everyone 4 weeks to purchase the gifts and
place them back under the trees. We need to have
the gifts over to St. Philip by Dec. 8th so they can
be sorted and ready for their Christmas with Christ
distribution on Dec. 13th. The most requested items
are blankets, diapers, underwear, socks and toys.
If interested in helping this ministry please contact
Jo Gath at 359-2587 or [email protected]
In advance I would like to thank all the Holy
Spirit parishioners for their generosity with this
ministry!
Resurrection Choir (Funeral Choir)
New Members Needed
The Holy Spirit Resurrection Choir is accepting new
members. This is a very rewarding ministry. Whenever we
have a funeral at the parish, you would get a call or an
email. You are asked to come to the funeral and participate in the liturgy (singing the songs & reciting the
prayers). If you are unable to come, we ask that you pray
for the family and the choir. There are no rehearsals.
This ministry is very
important to the family
of the deceased. All
are welcome! Contact
Paula Slinger at 3539404 ext.116 or at
home 562-0197 if
you have questions.

how parents might better understand the world in which their
children live today as well as offer ways to support your child
through this season of life. ALL PARENTS are welcome to
attend. There is no charge for the evening and a light
dinner will be served. We are grateful for your donation. Please register in advance if you know you are able

Maternity Clothes & Receiving Blankets Needed
Birthline, a ministry of the Pro-Life and Family Life
Office in the Archdiocese, provides baby layettes and supplies for low-income families. In the past year, we have assisted almost 1100 mothers, many having more than one
baby. Our supply of maternity clothes is dwindling quickly.
The greatest needs are L, XL, 2XL, and 3XL (no smaller
sizes). These donations are most appreciated
as we continue to assist the families who
come to Birthline. With the colder weather
quickly approaching we are also in need of
receiving blankets to give to the new mothers.

Jená Hartman at: (317) 236 -1433
