October is Fire Prevention month. Our
Lady of Providence works hand-in-hand
with the Central Islip Fire Department to
educate our students in fire safety. Pre-K
and Kindergarten went on a field trip to the
Fire Department. Our students had a
wonderful time and we would like to
extend our thanks to the Central Islip Fire
Department and especially to Fireman Bob
for all they do. The Central Islip Fire
Department also came to our school to visit
Grades 1-8 with the “fire safety house”.
Our 8th graders attended a Technology
Day at Adventure land in Farmingdale on
October 15th. While enjoying the rides,
students studied the physics, motion and
speed of the individual rides. What a great
way to make learning real to our students!
Our Kindergarten, First Grade, and
Second Grade classes enjoyed a wonderful
Fall day at White Post Farms. They were
able to pet animals, take a hay ride, and go
pumpkin picking. Thank you to all the
parent volunteers.

ST. AGNES MEDAL
Every year Bishop Murphy awards the St. Agnes Medal to
a parishioner or a couple for their outstanding service
and dedication to their parish community. This past
Sunday on October 26 at 3pm at St Agnes Cathedral,
Bishop Murphy awarded the medal to the recipients from
133 parishes. José and Rosa Orellana from St. John of
God Parish were awarded the medal. José and Rosa met
many years ago in the Spanish Charismatic Choir.
Their entire family: Benjamin, Betty, and Judith are musically gifted. Jose is
a trustee of SJOG parish. Their family has selflessly served their parish for
the past 20 years.
Remembrance Mass: Saturday, NOVEMBER 8th at 2pm
“I will always be alive in memory in your heart”
As always, letters will go out inviting the families of loved ones who passed on during the
past year. We encourage the family members to come to this Mass. Their loved one’s name
will be solemnly proclaimed aloud and a votive candle carried up to the altar.
In addition, if you would like to have the names of other family members who died in previous years solemnly proclaimed aloud at the Mass and a votive candle brought up, there are
envelopes around the Church and Chapel. A $20 donation per name. You are encouraged
to attend this Mass and carry up the votive candle.
Envelopes will be accepted until November 3, 2014.

a muchas personas.
“Omnium urbis et orbis eclesiarum mater et caput.”

4 PASOS: LEER, MEDITAR, ORAR, CONTEMPLAR
Lectio Divina: is a form of prayer using Sacred Scripture. It is a four step
process, using Scripture as its basis to get to know our Lord in a more profound
way. It is a process that was developed by St. Benedict and can be used in
individual prayer or in a group.
4 STEPS: READ, MEDITATE, PRAY, CONTEMPLATE
MAY WANT TO BEGIN WITH A PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT:
Come Holy Spirit, illuminate my mind, open my heart so I can
encounter in your Word Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the
Life…..Help me follow today, the call of Christ in a new way,
according to your word. And let me be for all in the world, one who is
sent by the Lord, let me be a brother/sister, let me be a friend, let me
be a disciple of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
Step 1: READ: What does the Biblical Text Say?
At the most basic level:
What is going on in this Scriptural passage? You have to identify a WORD,
PHRASE, IDEA that touches your heart….that the Lord places in your heart…..
FIRST READING: read the text out loud slowly and intentionally.
REFLECTION: take several minutes to reflect on the reading and allow
the Holy Spirit to surface a WORD, A PHRASE, AN IDEA/CONCEPT that is
central to the meaning of the text for you (What is the Biblical text saying?).
INTERNALIZE: repeat the word or phrase either out loud or in your
heart.
Step 2: MEDITATE:
What is Jesus saying to me personally through this
Scripture Text? What does God want me to know or see through this Scripture
Text. How does this text speak to my experience in life?
SECOND READING: read the same passage again.
MEDITATION: take several minutes to reflect on the question: What is
Jesus saying to me personally through this Scripture Text?
Step 3: PRAY: My Lord has spoken to me in the Scriptural Text:
What do I
want to say back to him in Prayer?
THIRD READING: may want to re-read the same passage again.
REFLECTION: Jesus has spoken to me personally in this Scriptural text.
What do I want to say to my Lord in Prayer?
PRAYER: say your prayer to our Lord either out loud or interiorly.
Step 4: CONTEMPLATE / ACT:
As a result of my prayer, what is Jesus
calling me to DO (this week) as a result of this process? Finally, our prayer calls
us to action ultimately to be more compassionate and faithful.
CONTEMPLATE: on what our Lord is calling you to do as a result of this
process.
