Pray to the Holy Spirit. Pray that He will give you the courage to share your Faith and the wisdom to choose your words carefully and profitably. o You don't have to know everything right now! Just learn a little bit more about your Faith each and every day. Read Scripture. Read the Catechism. Listen to apologetics tapes. Read books on or by the Saints. Learn a little bit at a time. o Always view a question about your Faith, or even an attack on your Faith, as an opportunity - an opportunity to share the truth. Stay calm and stay determined to bring light into darkness. o Don't get frustrated. Quite often Catholics get frustrated by what I call the doctrinal dance...you get asked about Purgatory, Mary, the Pope, the Sacraments all in rapid fire succession. Before you can answer one question, you're asked another. Just keep firmly, but gently, guiding the discussion back to one topic until you've said all you want to say...then move on. o Very, very important! Never be afraid to say, "I don't know," when asked a question about your Faith. Don't try to "wing it." However, always follow, "I don't know," with, "But, I will find out and get back to you." And make sure you do! http://www.biblechristiansociety.com/apologetics/ two_minute#3 Year of Consecrated Life Prayer for the Year of Consecrated Life O God, throughout the ages you have called women and men to pursue lives of perfect charity through the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks for these courageous witnesses of Faith and models of inspiration. Their pursuit of holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to you. Continue to enrich your Church by calling forth sons and daughters who, having found the pearl of great price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above all things. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Discipline That Lasts a Lifetime Dr. Ray is a psychologist, radio talk show host, husband, and a father to 10 adopted children. He explains that what is needed to raise well-adjusted children who are prepared to succeed in life in today's challenging environment is uncommonly good parenting. He draws from his wealth of knowledge and experience to discuss, with wisdom and humor, practical ways to succeed in this God-given calling. CD’s are available in the Gathering Space for $3.00 each. Jubilee Year of Mercy “The practice of pilgrimage has a special place in the Holy Year, because it represents the journey each of us makes in this life. Life itself is a pilgrimage, and the human being is a viator, a pilgrim traveling along the road, making his way to the desired destination. Similarly, to reach the Holy Door in Rome or in any other place in the world, everyone, each according to his or her ability, will have to make a pilgrimage. This will be a sign that mercy is also a goal to reach and requires dedication and sacrifice. May pilgrimage be an impetus to conversion: by crossing the threshold of the Holy Door, we will find the strength to embrace God's mercy and dedicate ourselves to being merciful with others as the Father has been with us." — Pope Francis Celebrate the Jubilee Year of Mercy with a great new app from Our Sunday Visitor! 365 Days to Mercy is designed to accompany you on your spiritual journey during the Jubilee Year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis. 4.- Hoy y no mañana. Vino a cumplirla. Padre Juan Rivas traduciendo Arzobispo Sheen. January 24, 2016 PAGE 9 DEANERY AND DIOCESAN NEWS 2016 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal “Chosen by God’s Grace” Bishop Conlon’s mailing asking for a pledge to the 2016 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA) is in the hands of many of our parishioners. If you have received the mailing, please respond as soon as possible. If you have not received it, please contact the Diocesan Development Office at 815-838-8515. This year, the theme of the Appeal is “Chosen by God’s Grace.” Can you imagine anything more precious? How did you feel when you were chosen to be on a team? Picked for a lead part in a play? Pretty special, I would imagine. Greater than anything you have or ever will be chosen for, God has chosen you to join Him and fulfill the plan He has uniquely created for you. How do we acknowledge God’s grace and show Him our gratitude? One way is to give back to God the gifts He shared with us. We can support our parish, our diocese and the Church throughout the world with gifts of time, talent and treasure. The CMAA funds the mission and ministries of our diocese. It also funds services that are of great help to the ministries here in our parish. Please answer the bishop’s request and make a generous pledge. All pledges can be paid in ten (10) installments. Thank you in advance for your support. Job Opportunity Part Time Administrative Assistant/Bulletin Editor Ss. This program allows qualified senior citizens to defer up to $5,000 of their current property tax amount. The deferral is treated as a loan and accrues 6 percent simple interest until the amount is either paid back or the property is sold. To qualify, the senior citizen’s household income cannot exceed $55,000. Additionally, the property must be used exclusively for the owner’s primary residence. USF is looking forward to hosting both of these talented performers to lead off an exciting spring line-up. Admission to this event is $10 for adults, alumni, seniors and non-USF students is $7 and students and staff of the university are free. To purchase tickets please visit stfrancis.edu/music-at-moser. The application period closes March 1, 2016. You may either call the DuPage County Treasurer’s Office at 630-407-5900 or go online at treasurer.dupageco.org for more information.
