We need to improve in coming to church on time and not leaving until Mass is over (when the priest, Eucharistic ministers and servers have reached the vestibule). During Mass there should be no gathering and talking in the vestibule area. Let us help each other to honor God more and to give good example to each other. But the Pharisees were looking for an argument, and Jesus was not going to enter into one. His response might give some guidance today for discus- sions with those who get incensed about displaying the Ten Commandments. When Jesus was asked about the law He does not reference the Decalogue. Instead, He cites the Shema, the prayer of a pious Jew in Deuteronomy 6: "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." And for good measure He adds a quote from Leviticus 19: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." My classmate would be happy. Law with specificity-love God and neighbor-but with enough flexibility to accommodate a variety of circumstances. © 2011 Litúrgico Publications Inc PLEASE SUPPORT OUR ADVERTISERS Your Family Eye Doctors Tom Determan OD & Stephen H.
