...to Immaculate Conception Church, Mount Vernon; Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Sedro-Woolley; and Saint Catherine Mission
Church, Concrete. We are two individual parishes and one mission church ministered to by our Pastor, Fr. Martin Bourke, with the
assistance of Parochial Vicar, Fr. Emilio Gonzalez. In addition to sharing clergy, the churches share Pastoral Assistant for Finance,
Jamie Cline ([email protected] or 360-391-7003). Fr. Martin and Jamie have their offices at the Immaculate Conception Parish
Center located at 215 N. 15th St. in Mount Vernon, Fr. Emilio’s office is at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish located at 719 Ferry St.,
Sedro-Woolley.

Good stewards are like the industrious and reliable servants in today’s Gospel, prudently using and
multiplying the gifts entrusted to them by God.

Our Lady of Auriesville, NY
About 500 yards from where I was born there is a little rise in the road, called Gallows Hill. During the reign of Britain
in Ireland, someone was hanged there.
Auriesville in New York has a special place, a sacred site, a holy ground. It is the site of the first three martyrs of
the United States, Rene Goupil, Isaac Jogues and Jean de la Lande.
Calvary has the blood of Jesus. Rome has the blood of Peter and Paul. Tertullian said that the blood of martyrs is the
seed of the church. When people visit the Colosseum in Rome they are visiting a place where blood was spilt.
Rene Goupil was a surgeon and lay helper of the Jesuits in their mission work. He was captured as he travelled down the
St. Lawrence River. Teaching a child the sign of the cross caused a tomahawk to be used on his skull.
Jogues had been captured, too, but escaped only to return and be captured by the Iroquois tribe together with the lay man
Jean de la Lande. Both suffered martyrdom and were dumped in the Mohawk River.
Thus, today we have the shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs at this site. A short 10 years after their deaths, Lily of the
Mohawks, St. Kateri Tekakwitha was born in 1656. She was canonized in 2012 and her birth place is Auriesville,
New York. Was her life a seed of the martyrs?

The Immaculate Conception Capital Campaign Committee in
cooperation with Bertelsen Winery is hosting a wine tasting event
on Sunday, November 16, from 2-5 p.m. at the St. Joseph Center
in Mount Vernon. Tickets are $15 and available at the door.
Come sample a variety of wines from several of our valley wineries and help raise funds for our new church. Purchase your

Join us on Sunday, November 30, in the school cafeteria from 9:00 a.m.-noon to make
Christmas wreaths for your home. Candles and greenery will be provided. Suggested donation is
$5.00. Evergreens are needed. Please call the school if you can make a contribution. The school
children will participate in a blessing of the Advent wreaths on Monday, December 1, 1:30 p.m.

The ICRS PTO is hosting its annual Santa Breakfast on Sunday, December 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at the St.
Joseph Center in Mount Vernon. We will have pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee and orange juice. Donations
for breakfast are accepted and encouraged. Santa will be on hand for pictures from 9 a.m. to noon. There
are two package options starting at $25. Pictures are by Jackie Johnson. Stop by the Scholastic Book Fair in

Advent Retreat: Giving Birth to the God of Peace
December 5-7 Friday 7:15p.m.-Sunday 1:00 p.m.
A silent beginning to Advent may deepen your journey to
Christmas. The opening session will involve prayer, relaxation and preparation for the retreat with some materials
for possible use during the retreat. The retreat will close
with group prayer and sharing. A spiritual director will be

Thanksgiving Collection for the Needy
Your gifts this Thanksgiving will allow the parish offices
to offer financial assistance to the needy in the community in the form of gas vouchers (at ICC), food cards, diapers (at IHM) and utility assistance. This Outreach ministry is funded by three collections each year on Thanksgiving, Ash Wednesday and Holy Thursday. The Finance
Councils do not budget any funds for this ministry. Your
gifts on these special days are gratefully accepted and
rationed until the next collection. Please be generous.
Traveling Light: Holding On and Letting Go

The New Church: The tower s now ar e completely fr amed and wor k
continues on the walls of the main church (Nave) area. Next will come the
membrane roof installation over the towers and Tyvek (weatherproofing)
over the sheathing. The laminated ceiling beams have arrived and will be
installed when the walls are completed. The tower domes are scheduled to
be installed in December. We need to keep an eye on the site, since we
have had intruders on several occasions. Permanent power is scheduled for
early December and the natural gas installation should occur this month.
As our New Church is growing on 15th Street, it would be a good time to
purchase a brick to place at the entrance to honor our loved ones! You can still order your brick from the Parish Office
by filling out a form and bringing a check, credit card or even
cash!

Each Angel card lists the requested dollar amount needed
for each child. Please place envelopes with retail gift
cards in the Angel Project box located next to the Christmas tree in the Immaculate Heart of Mary
Church vestibule. Please donate from our

Nuestra Señora de Auriesville, NY
Cerca de 500 metros de donde yo nací hay un pequeño aumento en la carretera, llamado Gallows Hill. Durante el reinado de Gran Bretaña en Irlanda, alguien fue ahorcado allí.
Auriesville en Nueva York tiene un lugar especial, un lugar sagrado, una tierra santa. Es el lugar de los 3 primeros
mártires de los Estados Unidos, René Goupil, Isaac Jogues y Jean de la Lande.
El Calvario tiene la sangre de Jesús. Roma tiene la sangre de Pedro y Pablo. Tertuliano dice que la sangre de los mártires
son la semilla de la iglesia. Cuando la gente visita el Coliseo de Roma están visitando un lugar donde se derramó mucha
sangre.
René Goupil era cirujano ayudante de los jesuitas, y estaba en su trabajo misionero. Fue capturado mientras viajaba por
el río San Lorenzo. Enseñar a un niño la señal de la cruz provocaba que un hacha fuese utilizado en el cráneo.

Exposición del Santísimo Sacramento
Todos son bienvenidos a venir y disfrutar de la presencia

de la Misa, o llame a la
oficina para hacer una
cita con el Padre Martin.
Nueva iglesia: Las torres están
ahora totalmente enmarcadas y se
sigue trabajando en las paredes de
la zona de la iglesia principal
(Nave). A continuación vendrá la
instalación del techo sobre las
torres y la impermeabilización
sobre el revestimiento. Las vigas
del techo laminados han llegado y
se instalarán cuando se completen
las paredes. Las cúpulas de torre están programados para ser
instaladas en diciembre. Tenemos que mantenernos bien alerta
en el lugar de la construcción, ya que hemos tenido intrusos en
varias ocasiones. La electricidad Permanente está prevista para
principios de diciembre, y la instalación de gas natural debe
ocurrir este mes.
A medida que nuestra Iglesia Nueva esta cada vez mas
avansada en la calle 15, sería un buen momento para comprar
un ladrillo para colocar en la entrada para honrar a nuestros
seres queridos! Usted todavía puede pedir su ladrillo de la Oficina Parroquial llenando un formulario y traer un cheque, tarjeta de crédito o incluso dinero en efectivo!
Jardinería e Irrigación: Los Caballeros de Colón le darán
cobertura a nuestro exceso de mezcla de tierra con hojas de
plástico para la protección durante el invierno. Seguimos a la
espera de recibir las fichas de varias de las compañías locales
de árboles. Vamos a utilizar virutas de madera para cubrir el
terreno abierto a lo largo de la barda. El área de jardín en la
esquina sudeste de la página debe tener una pendiente hacia el
desagüe. Esta parte del proyecto es dependiente de como esta el
clima y hemos tenido demasiada lluvia últimamente. Nosotros
le haremos saber cuando necesitamos personas para ayudar con
la plantación de árboles y otras necesidades de jardinería.
Reuniones: La próxima reunión del Comité de construcción
será de lunes 1 de diciembre a las 7 PM en la rectoría. Ellos
estarán discutiendo diseños alternativos para el ambón y el altar. La Campaña de Capital se reunirá el miércoles 3 de diciembre y discutiran el evento de cata de vinos y bebidas, y la recaudación de fondos del festival del 14 de febrero - el sábado antes
de la Cuaresma. Como siempre, todas las reuniones del comité
están abiertas a todos los miembros de la parroquia y siempre
están buscando nuevas ideas.
