The property where we worship was originally developed by Valley Congregational
Church. The community center (across Easter Lane) was constructed in 1924, the
classrooms in 1948 and the sanctuary in 1949. HSoH rented space in 2002 and
purchased the property in 2004. We are grateful to Valley Congregational families
who prepared this facility to serve the Body of Christ in perpetuity.

Zephaniah 1:7, 12-18; Psalm 90:1-8, (9-11), 12; 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11; Matthew 25:14-30
This Pentecost we have covered spirit-filled and spirit-led lives
also known as authentic Christianity. Then we studied about faith
that can cause our change from mediocrity to genuineness. Today
we cover that middle ground – superficial faith. Which are we?
As we approach Advent, our Lectionary readings turn to
description of the end of time. This can be scary or it can be
enthusiastically anticipated. Which are we?
The prophet Zechariah wrote: “Be silent before the Sovereign
Lord, for the day of the Lord is near. The Lord has prepared a
sacrifice; He has consecrated those He has invited.” Consecration
is a setting aside of something or someone for a special purpose –
in God’s case to accomplish His will on earth. In this busy-busy
world filed with a plethora of electronic media it is difficult to be
silent. But in order to hear His coming we must. How else can we
hear His assignment – or even know if we are the invited?
King David asks God in his Psalms: “Teach us to number our
days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Taking stock in the
days left in our personal lives will affect how we live…hopefully
wiser than the days before!
Paul urges us to expect the end as Christians: “But you, brothers
and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise
you like a thief…So then, let us not be like others …For God did
not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our
Lord Jesus Christ. 10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake
or asleep, we may live together with him. 11 Therefore encourage
one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
Enlightened by the Word of God we are not afraid; we are not
addicted to the world’s things; but we are encouragers.
In our Gospel, Matthew retells Jesus’ parable of the unprofitable
servant, ending with: “For whoever has will be given more, and
they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what
they have will be taken from them.”
God wants us to invest in His kingdom. Instead we invest in
earthly goods and friendships. He gives us each a particular gift
(see 1 Corinthians 12) to accomplish His will. But we are afraid of
the world and what it will say when we speak of Jesus. We are
afraid of losing friends and family if we love and correct as we lead
others to God’s ways.
The end IS coming. We are closer to the end of our life today
than we were yesterday. Our actions select our final resting place
– or not. May we meet each other in the company of God forever.
The chosen community of Holy Spirit of Hope invites you to

try to model Christ-centered family living in God’s will led by the
Holy Spirit.

espíritu-dirigidas también conocido como cristiandad auténtica.
Entonces estudiamos acerca de fe que causa nuestro cambio de la
mediocridad a la autenticidad. Hoy cubrimos ese terreno propicio
– fe superficial. ¿Cuál somos?
Como nos acercamos al Adviento, lecturas de leccionario giran
a la descripción del fin de tiempo. Esto puede ser espantoso o
puede ser anticipado con entusiasmo. ¿Cuál somos?
El profeta Secaría firmó: “¡Silencio ante el Señor omnipotente,
porque cercano está el día del Señor; ha preparado el Señor un
sacrificio y ha purificado a sus invitados!” La consagración es un
apartando de algo o alguien para un propósito especial – en caso
de Dios para lograr Su voluntad en la tierra. En este mundo muy
ocupado lleno con plétora de medios electrónicos es difícil de ser
silencioso. Pero para oír Su venida lo debemos ser. Como
podemos oír Su tarea – ¿O aún saber si somos el invitado?
El Rey David la pregunta Dios en sus Salmos: “Enséñanos a
contar bien nuestros días, para que nuestro corazón adquiera
sabiduría.” Haciendo caso a los últimos días en nuestras vidas
personales afectará cómo vivimos…¡optimistamente más sabio
que los días antes!
Pablo nos insta a esperar el fin como cristianos: “Ustedes, en
cambio, hermanos, no están en la oscuridad para que ese día los
sorprenda como un ladrón … No debemos, pues, dormirnos como
los demás …pues Dios no nos destinó a sufrir el castigo sino a
recibir la salvación por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. 10 Él
murió por nosotros para que, en la vida o en la muerte, vivamos
junto con él. 11 Por eso, anímense y edifíquense unos a otros, tal
como lo vienen haciendo.” Alumbrados por la Palabra de Dios no
estamos atemorizados; no somos adictos a las cosas del mundo;
pero somos animadores.
En nuestro Evangelio, Mateo cuenta de nuevo la parábola de
Jesús del sirviente poco rentable, terminando con: “Porque a todo
el que tiene, se le dará más, y tendrá en abundancia. Al que no
tiene se le quitará hasta lo que tiene.”
Dios desea que inviértenos en Su reino. En su lugar invertimos
en bienes y amistades terrenales. Nos da a cada un regalo
particular (vea 1 corintio 12) para lograr Su voluntad. Pero
tenemos miedo del mundo y de lo que dirá cuando hablamos de
Jesús. Somos atemorizados de perder amigos o familia si
adoramos y corregimos en dirigir otros a las maneras de Dios.
El fin viene. Estamos más cerca al fin de nuestra vida hoy que
fuimos ayer. Nuestras acciones seleccionan nuestra última morada
– o no. Pueda que nos encuéntrenos en compañía de Dios para
siempre.
La comunidad escogida de Espíritu Santo de Esperanza le
invita a seguir su viaje espiritual con nosotros. Por nuestras
dificultades tratamos de modelar vida familiar Cristo-centrado en
la voluntad de Dios dirigida por el Espíritu Santo.
