Mercy is not to be confused with presumption or permission to sin. In giving us commandments on how we should live, God shows His love and mercy for us. God knows that we flourish only by living a life in union with His will. God's mercy provides us with every ounce of strength we need to actually fulfill the commandments, which is the same as to fulfill the demands of love. Christ actively seeks us in order to forgive us and bring us into a loving relationship with God. No offense is greater than the mercy of God. Christ endured His passion and death to heal us and make us new in Himself. We all need Christ's mercy and He seeks to heal all including those suffering from the aftermath of abortion the mother who had the abortion, the father who may have ran from his responsibility and encouraged the abortion, the parents who may have told their daughter that abortion was the only option, and the aborted child's siblings who may be angry at their mother for ending the life of their brother or sister. In his encyclical Evangelium Vitae, St. Pope John Paul II offers a special message of hope to women who have had an abortion - "The Church is aware of the many factors which may have influenced your decision, and she does not doubt in many cases it was a painful and even shattering decision. The wound in your heart may not yet have healed. Certainly what happened was and remains terribly wrong. But do not give in to discouragement and do not lose hope. Try rather to understand what happened and face it honestly. If you have not already done so, give yourselves over with humility and trust to repentance. The Father of Mercies is ready to give you His forgiveness and His peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. You will come to understand that nothing is definitively lost and you will also be able to ask forgiveness from your child, who is now living in the Lord." Christ loves and offers His mercy no matter the sin. Jesus told St. Faustina, "The greater the sinner, the greater the right to My mercy." Let us pray, and publicly proclaim Christ's message of mercy, that those injured through participation in abortion and other offenses against God's gift of Life will seek and accept His healing mercy. Jesus I Trust in You. Proverbs 2:1 -5 Sunday April 19, 2015 6:00 pm Mass Special Needs Awareness Mass What is a Special Needs Awareness Mass? It is an opportunity to celebrate the gifts that people with special needs bring to the Parish. It is an opportunity for the Parish to welcome people with special needs to participate fully in the life of the church. 579 HEALTH SCREENING ~TODAY - April 12, 2015 Sponsored by The Parish Nurses The Parish Nurses of Immaculate Conception Church will sponsor a FREE HEALTH SCREENING - TODAY Sunday April 12th in conjunction with St Peter's Mobile Unit. The hours of operation are 8:30am to 12 noon. There is no pre-registration, however, screening is on a first come first served basis. Saint Peter's will therefore determine the time they will see the last patient. The Health Fair is being held in the Immaculate Conception grade school Cafeteria. Some of the great services it will include are screenings for: blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, DermaScan(for skin cancer), height, weight, body mass index(BMI), and nutrition counseling. We are hoping to have a doctor present to answer questions and a representative to answer insurance questions as well. Please take advantage of this free, stellar opportunity to care for your body, as we believe, through scripture that we are a temple of the Holy Spirit! Food Collection: On the third Sunday of each month non-perishable foods are collected at the entrances of the church. The food is distributed to three agencies; the Somerset Community Food Bank, FISH emergency food and clothing pantry and the Somerville Welfare Office. Over the last few months our Parish Food Collection has decreased dramatically. We rely on the generous hearts of this Parish Community to help us to continue to fill our neighboring food pantries. It truly is a simple way to help those in need. Please take the time to fill one grocery bag with non-perishable items for those who do not have the means to purchase one of life’s basic needs ~ food. This ministry is crucial to living the Gospel message that calls us to serve the hungry and in some cases the homeless. Jesus spoke the word clearly when he stated “When I was hungry did you feed me? For what you do for the least of these you did for me.” The next food collection is scheduled for next weekend April 18th & 19th . Campaign Prayer O God, you entrusted to us the fruits of all creation so that we might care for the earth and be nourished with its bounty. You sent us your Son to share our very flesh and blood and to teach us your Law of Love. Through His death and resurrection, we have been formed into one human family. Jesus showed great concern for those who had no food – even transforming five loaves and two fish into a banquet that served five thousand and many more. We come before you, O God, conscious of our faults and failures, but full of hope, to share food with all members in this global family. Through your wisdom, inspire leaders of government and of business, as well as all the world’s citizens, to find just, and charitable solutions to end hunger by assuring that all people enjoy the right to food. Thus we pray, O God, that when we present ourselves for Divine Judgment, we can proclaim ourselves as “One Human Family” with “Food for All”. AMEN. 7 The New Evangelization—Discipleship / Stewardship Dinner with the Pope On 5/7 we will meet from 6:00p.m. at Alfonso’s Restaurant. Visit the official website: WorldMeeting2015.org to learn more and to sign up for regular updates on how you can participate. The 10 months prior to the World Meeting of Families have been assigned 10 themes based on the 10 chapters of the Preparatory Catechesis, “Love is our Mission: The Family Fully Alive”. The April theme is: All Love Bears Fruit which states: Not everyone is called to marriage. But every life is meant to be fertile. Every life has the power and the need to nurture new life — if not through bearing and raising children, then through other vital forms of selfgiving, building and service. The Church is an extended family of different vocations, each distinct but each needing and supporting the others. Priesthood, religious life and the celibate lay vocation to enrich, and are enriched by, the witness of the married state. The different ways of being chaste and celibate outside of marriage are ways of donating one’s life to God’s service and the human community. Would you like to host a family during the week?
