Gena, Richard, June, Carrie, Herb Finley, Maureen Sullivan, Joanne, Mary Bergstrom, Marie, Frank Maloney, Ruth, Paul, Elsa, Amy Souzis Post, Pintabone family, Barbara McGurl, Heather Wood, Rick, Alicia Lara, Deacon Eduardo ST. VINCENT de PAUL In the Gospel today Jesus says: “Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” When God is the center of our lives there is no problem with giving others their due. Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you are helping your neighbor who is hungry, hopeless and frightened to know that they belong to God. Christ died to bring peace to the world. And so we pray: Lord Jesus, grant us peace. For an end to bitterness and hatred, we pray, Lord Jesus, grant us peace. For an end to divisions among races and religions, we pray, Lord Jesus, grant us peace. For an end to hostility between nations, we pray, Lord Jesus, grant us peace. Amen. Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time 3 Santa María de Waltham 4 19 de octubre de 2014 Vigésimo noveno Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario St. Mary Parish, Waltham October 19, 2014 RESPECT LIFE MONTH Every October, the Church across the United States observes “Respect Life” month as an expression of our commitment to the value of every human life from its beginning stages in the womb to the end of earthly life. This year’s theme is “Each of us is a MASTERPIECE of God’s creation.” During October we will feature articles related to this topic. SPIRITUAL TEACHING OF DESERT MONKS Better Meat Than Pride Isidore the Priest said, ‘If you fast regularly, do not be inflated with pride, but if you think highly of yourself because of it, then you had better eat meat. It is better for a person to eat meat than to be inflated with pride and glorify himself’. 40 DAYS FOR LIFE: SEPTEMBER 24-NOVEMBER 2 From September 24 through November 2, you are invited to join other Christians for 40 Days for Life – 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. ADULT CONFIRMATION CLASSES Many adults have not completed their initiation as Catholics. There are also many Christians baptized in another denomination who wish to inquire about Catholicism or enter into communion and become Catholics. (Protestants who become Catholics don’t convert. They are already Christians). We are beginning classes in October to help and accompany adults who wish to begin this process. If you or someone you know wants to join us in October, please call the parish office or speak to one of the priests. If you know an adult or child who was never baptized and wants to learn about Christ and/or become a Christian, please speak to one of the priests as this process is slightly different from Confirmation classes.
