Time of Lent - Chirst is passing by
But during this Lent, let us
not forget that to be
servants of God is no easy
matter. The text from this
Sunday's epistle continues:
"As God's ministers we
have to show great
patience, in times of
affliction, of need, of
difficulty; under the lash,
in prison, in the midst of tumult; when we are tired out,
sleepless and fasting. We have to be pure-minded,
enlightened, forgiving and gracious to others; we have to
rely on the Holy Spirit, on unaffected love, on the truth of
our message, on the power of God."
In the most varied activities of our day, in all situations, we
must act as God's servants, realizing that he is with us, that
we are his children. We must be aware of the divine roots
burrowing into our life and act accordingly.
These words of the Apostle should make you happy, for
they are, as it were, a ratification of your vocation as
ordinary Christians in the middle of the world, sharing with
other men — your equals — the enthusiasms, the sorrows
and the joys of human life. All this is a way to God. What
God asks of you is that you should, always, act as his
children and servants.
But these ordinary circumstances of life will be a divine
way only if we really change ourselves, if we really give
ourselves. For St Paul uses hard words. He promises that
the Christian will have a hard life, a life of risk and of
constant tension. How we disfigure Christianity if we try to
turn it into something nice and comfortable! But neither is
it true to think that this deep, serious way of life, which is
totally bound up with all the difficulties of human
existence, is something full of anguish, oppression or fear.
The Christian is a realist. His supernatural and human
realism helps him appreciate all the aspects of his life:
sorrow and joy, his own and other people's suffering,
certainty and doubt, generosity and selfishness. The
Christian experiences all this, and he confronts it all, with
human integrity and with the strength he receives from
God.
Lent commemorates the forty days Jesus spent in the
desert in preparation for his years of preaching, which
culminated in the cross and in the triumph of Easter. Forty
days of prayer and penance. At the end: the temptations of
Christ, which the liturgy recalls for us in today's Gospel.
The whole episode is a mystery which man cannot hope to
understand: God submitting to temptation, letting the evil
one have his way. But we can meditate upon it, asking our
Lord to help us understand the teaching it contains.

Tiempo de Cuaresma - Es Cristo que pasa
Pero en esta Cuaresma no podemos olvidar que querer ser
servidores de Dios no es fácil. Sigamos con el texto de San
Pablo, que recoge la Epístola de la Misa de este domingo,
para recordar las dificultades: Como servidores de Dios —
escribe el Apóstol—, con mucha paciencia en medio de
tribulaciones, de necesidades, de angustias, de azotes, de
cárceles, de sediciones, de trabajos, de vigilias, de
ayunos; con pureza, con doctrina, con longanimidad, con
mansedumbre, con Espíritu Santo, con caridad sincera, con
palabras de verdad, con fortaleza de Dios.
En los momentos más dispares de la vida, en todas las
situaciones, hemos de comportarnos como servidores de
Dios, sabiendo que el Señor está con nosotros, que somos
hijos suyos. Hay que ser conscientes de esa raíz divina, que
está injertada en nuestra vida, y actuar en consecuencia.
Estas palabras del Apóstol deben llenaros de alegría,
porque son como una canonización de vuestra vocación de
cristianos corrientes, que vivís en medio del mundo,
compartiendo con los demás hombres, vuestros iguales,
afanes, trabajos y alegrías. Todo eso es camino divino. Lo
que os pide el Señor es que, en todo momento, obréis
como hijos y servidores suyos.
Pero esas circunstancias ordinarias de la vida serán camino
divino, si de verdad nos convertimos, si nos entregamos.
Porque San Pablo habla un lenguaje duro. Promete al
cristiano una vida difícil, arriesgada, en perpetua tensión.
¡Cómo ha sido desfigurado el cristianismo, cuando ha
querido hacerse de él una vía cómoda! Pero también es
una desfiguración de la verdad pensar que esa vida honda y
seria, que conoce vivamente todos los obstáculos de la
existencia humana, sea una vida de angustia, de opresión o
de temor.
El cristiano es realista, con un realismo sobrenatural y
humano, que advierte todos los matices de la vida: el dolor
y la alegría, el sufrimiento propio y el ajeno, la certeza y
la perplejidad, la generosidad y la tendencia al egoísmo. El
cristiano conoce todo y se enfrenta con todo, lleno de
entereza humana y de la fortaleza que recibe de Dios.
La Cuaresma conmemora los cuarenta días que pasó Jesús
en el desierto, como preparación de esos años de
predicación, que culminan en la Cruz y en la gloria de la
Pascua. Cuarenta días de oración y de penitencia. Al
terminar, tuvo lugar la escena que la liturgia de hoy ofrece
a nuestra consideración, recogiéndola en el Evangelio de la
Misa: las tentaciones de Cristo.
Una escena llena de misterio, que el hombre pretende en
vano entender —Dios que se somete a la tentación, que
deja hacer al Maligno—, pero que puede ser meditada,
pidiendo al Señor que nos haga saber la enseñanza que
contiene.

Are Christians required to be pacifists ?
Jesus told his disciples, “… offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the
other one to him as well” (Matthew 5:39). He wanted his disciples to strive for peace when confronted with violence because
he knew that “all who take the sword will perish by the sword” (Matthew 26:52). We are never to use violence to solve problems. That doesn’t mean, however, that we are required to stand by while others attempt to deny either the individual citizen or particular governments fundamental rights, including that of self-defense. War can be morally justified
as a last resort but we should do everything possible to avoid war before it starts.
Certainly Christians must speak out against acts that provoke war. Too, we are required to fight racial, ethnic
and religious discrimination. Better still, when we fight injustice, we actually work to promote peace. That’s
the Christian way. In fact, Jesus turned the violence of the Cross into the ultimate act of love.

¿ Es obligatorio que los Cristianos sean pacifistas ?
Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “… no resistan al mal; antes bien, al que te abofetee en la mejilla derecha,
ofrécele también la otra” (Mateo 5:39). Quería que sus discípulos buscaran la paz cuando se enfrentaran a
la violencia porque sabia que “todos los que empuñen espada, a espada perecerán” (Mateo 26:52). Jamás debemos usar la
violencia para resolver problemas. No obstante, eso no significa que debamos cruzarnos de brazos cuando otros tratan de
privar a los individuos o a los gobiernos de sus derechos fundamentales, incluyendo el de la defensa propia. La guerra puede ser justificada moralmente como el ultimo recurso pero debemos hacer todo lo posible para evitarla antes de que empiece.
Los cristianos tienen que hablar contra las acciones que provocan la guerra. Además estamos obligados a luchar contra la
discriminación racial, étnica y religiosa. Es mas, cuando luchamos contra la injusticia nos estamos esforzando por promover la paz. Esto es vivir como cristianos. Jesús convirtió la violencia de la Cruz en un acto supremo de amor.

Hello everyone, my name is Ana
Cecilia Cubillan the new Youth
Minister. Just a little bit about
myself. Twenty-three years ago I
was born in Venezuela. Now I am
currently living in Weston and a
Psychology major student at Nova
Southeast University. In 2008, I
began working as a summer camp
assistant counselor at Namicha
Summer Camp (Venezuela) until I earned the
counselor position thru the following years. After
moving to U.S, I begin my apostolic labor, teaching
different workshop and catechesis classes. I got the
opportunity to organize the Windrose Catholic
Summer Camp in 2013. At the same time I worked
as a volunteer coordinator of La Casita Food Bank
project developed in La Pequeña Havana. As well,
I was a leader of Leadersnow Program, “forming
young woman in authentic leadership”. Also, I’m a
board member and funder of Narajas Services
projects, social program dedicated to help Narajas
community.

Hola, mi nombre es Ana Cecilia Cubillan, la nueva
persona encargada del Ministerio de Jóvenes. Nací
en Venezuela hace 23 años. Soy estudiante de
Psicología de la Universidad Nova Southeast. En el
año 2008 comencé a trabajar como ayudante del
Campamento de Verano Namicha (Venezuela) hasta
alcanzar la posición de Guia. Después de mudarnos
a EEUU comencé mi labor apostólica, enseñando en
diferentes talleres y clases de catecismo. Tuve la
oportunidad de participar en la organización del
Campamento de Verano Windrose en 2013, así
como también trabajé como Voluntaria
Coordinadora en el Banco de Comida La Casita,
proyecto que se desarrolla actualmente en la
Pequeña Havana. Me desempeñe como Leader en el
Programa de Formación LeadersNow International
“formando mujeres jóvenes en el liderazgo
autentico” y formo parte del equipo fundador del
Proyecto Naranjas, programa social dedicado a
atender a la Comunidad de Naranjas.

AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or
institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor
opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other
alcoholics to achieve sobriety. Alcoholics Anonymous - Group of Weston (in
