All of these will be in addition to many of the events which have been staples of Youth Ministry to date. In addition, there will be correspondence going out to all those who participated last year and will hopefully continue their journey in Youth Ministry. We are excited to begin with an informal meeting in mid - March. Parents are encouraged, by the law of the Church, to see to it that minors who are not bound by the law of fast and abstinence are educated in an authentic sense of penance. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION - GRADES 7 AND 8 Sunday morning classes for grades 7 and 8 are complete. The schedule for this group includes a session in the Spring for each grade. Grade 8 will attend a workshop on Saturday, March 21st from 9 AM - 11 AM. 2015 CATHOLIC CHARITY APPEAL Have you given prayerful consideration to your gift for the 2015 Catholic Charity Appeal? Won’t you help us by being the “Hands of Christ” in supporting the people and the work of the Diocese of Providence? Many of you have responded to the Catholic Charity Appeal mailing from Bishop Tobin. On behalf of those served by the ministries funded by the Catholic Charity Appeal, we thank you for your gifts. Our parish goal is to attain 100% participation - a goal that can only be reached with your sacrificial help and support. All gifts, regardless of size, help to make a difference in the lives of so many individuals. Parish Goals: Saint Anthony Church Church of the Presentation Saint Edward Church $ 84,000 $ 40,950 $ 19,950 At the Saint Martin de Porres Center in Providence, 9,580 elders and low - income families are served annually. Dear Parishioners, I have to apologize for the mistake in the bulletin last week about the survey on the upcoming Synod. I didn’t realize that the date of participation in the survey had passed. But I do hope that other opportunities to give your input will arise in the future. Pope Francis is a good leader who consults with others and is attune to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in the Church. The bills for snow removal for our parishes are coming in and I hope you are able to maintain your financial commitment to your parish and make up for lost revenue because of the bad weather. Fortunately our snow removal vendors understand and allow us to pay when funds are available. Even though expenses are high I know God is good and will provide. Spring is near as we advance the clocks this weekend. As Lent comes from the word “spring” we are reminded of the spiritual meaning of the season and welcome opportunities for new life. One way is to examine how we present ourselves to others. Being positive goes a long way in allowing more light to enter our world and the lives of other people. The bad weather can discourage us and affect our attitudes that we may project onto others. Like you I experience it too especially when there are not enough hours to complete the day’s tasks. Using positive words in our interactions with others can be healing. Also praying for those who project negativity is important because such people are usually deeply wounded. May we all rise to the challenge of growing spiritually during this season of new life. May God Bless your week! UPDATE: ABBA - AVE PRAYER MINISTRY For those unfamiliar with the Abba Ave Prayer Ministry, it is an outreach to anyone in physical and / or spiritual crisis because of life circumstances or just the desire for support in time of need. Since the inception of the Abba - Ave Ministry in 2008, we have received and prayed for hundreds of prayer intentions, received numerous thank you calls and notes for loved ones who were healed, and just simply had conversations with those needing compassion and support with difficult situations. The prayer line number is 353-3059 and represents all three parishes: Saint Anthony, Saint Edward and the Church of the Presentation. The prayer line is checked nightly for intentions and brought to prayer immediately. There is also a prayer box located near the candle section in Saint Anthony Church for prayer intentions. If you are interested in joining our prayer ministry, we meet the first Tuesday of each month at 7 PM in the Trinity Chapel (at Saint Anthony Church) to recite the rosary and pray for the intentions received. Also we have an in - home prayer group for those homebound or unable to join us monthly whereby you can pray in the comfort of your home for those in need. We welcome new members and hope that you will join us. Kindly contact the Religious Education Office (353-5215) for more information, or complete the coupon below and you will be contacted. ABBA AVE PRAYER INTENTION Please pray for the following intention: ____________________________________________ ____________________________________________ Name: (not required) _________________________ Phone Number (not required): ___________________ ____ I would like to join the Abba Ave Prayer Ministry by praying privately each evening.
