This Second Sunday of Lent, we are invited to go up to the mountaintop and experience a glimpse of the eternal glory promised to us by God. Just as Moses led the Israelites to see the promised land after he himself had seen a glimpse of it at Mount Nebo, we are drawn by our mountaintop experience of the glory of God to keep our focus on the promised heaven. The gospel tells us today that the disciples, Peter, James, and John, experienced Transfiguration so that they could be prepared for the trauma of the upcoming events in Calvary. Many of us struggle every day with hardships and we begin to doubt our faith and God's promises. This season of Lent invites us to go up to the mountain and experience Transfiguration. ***************************************** Some Thoughts on Lent from Pope Benedict XVI "Lent stimulates us to let the Word of God penetrate our life and in this way to know the fundamental truth: who we are, where we come from, where we must go, what path we must take in life..."
