I hope we are doing our best to integrate good habits in our life! Lent is time for change; renewal and conversion. Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving are the practice to mortify our body and lift up our spirit according to St. Augustin’s teachings. © J.S. Paluch Co., I really thank the parish groups like Woman’s Club and Holy Name Society; every year they have run events for our community helping Sacred Heart Parish and School. The Women’s Club Christmas Bazar supporting our school with $3,500.00 through that event, and just recently Holy Name Society ran the annual “Corned Beef - Nite at the Races Dinner” in supporting our community as well. Last Sunday, February 22, after 12:30 mass, the Hispanic Ministry collaborated with our Parish, giving a donation of $2,100.00. Thank you for all the hard work and dedication, and to all the people who donate time and efforts to make possible all the events. In the same way I want to thank all of you who participate and support the activities of Sacred Heart. We work together to keep our mission statement alive welcoming everybody, offering our time, talents and treasure to build God’s Kingdom. As we continue in our efforts to serve you in a better way, sometimes we face a challenge. People sometimes come to the Parish office requesting a recommendation letter or to sign a sponsor form for Confirmation or sponsor form for a Baptism, but unfortunately we have no records in our system showing that you belong to Sacred Heart Parish, or we do not know about your Sunday attendance every weekend. If we DO NOT KNOW about you, how can we help you? Maybe you do not know about the necessity to be registered in a Church community, or maybe you consider registration something not important or useless, but IT IS NOT. This is why we will have a Registration Weekend on March 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th. So if you are not a registered parishioner in Sacred Heart parish, I invite you to do so. There are a lot of advantages to being a registered parishioner. Please see the information included in this weekend’s bulletin to know more about the importance of being part of the Sacred Heart community. Our family is growing and I invite you to be active with us! Peace to all Fr. Francisco Ortega VICARIATE IV SCHOOLS WELCOME MASS ARCHBISHOP BLASÉ J. What it means to be a Church Parishioner? Maybe you have asked yourself this question, why do I need to be registered in a Church Parish? Maybe you are an immigrant and you are new to this country; there are a lot of things so different and there is too much information out there that you need to be aware of, to really make yourself feel at home. As baptized Catholics and children of God we are called to take care of each other, not only in words but in deeds. Our mission is to build the Kingdom of God on earth and this is not an easy mission. But it is easier when everybody does their part and works together! Then we can succeed! Here are some things to consider why being a registered parishioner is so important: We can worship God and be thankful with Him as a big family participating at Mass on all Sundays and Holy Days! We can learn our faith deeply when we bring our children to the Catholic School or Religious Education Program. We can participate with different groups, activities and services in our parish, contributing with our time and sharing talents on behalf of our community. We can celebrate our Sacraments with faith and reverence. We can receive pastoral care and spiritual support when is needed. Being a registered Parishioner is also for your own help, not only before God but also before your civil authorities. How does it work? When you are registered in a Church Parish your financial support and contributions you make every Sunday can be recorded in the parish file when you use your personal envelopes. Your support to your parish turns you into an “Active Parishioner” (it helps your Pastor to identify easily if you are attending your Sunday Masses and supporting your Church community). This STATUS can be extremely helpful when you are in need of: A Recommendation Letter to get a new job or to register your children into school. When somebody asks you to be sponsor or godparent for a child receiving the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation or First Communion. When you want to baptize in another church and you need the authorization from your home Parish. When you are requested by the Court to present a Letter of good standing to the Judge. You can also present the record of your support and contributions for Tax purposes every year; they are tax deductible. The use of envelopes are VERY important for our Church in order to give you better support in case you need it. Unfortunately if we have no records in our system, we can’t serve you as we would like and as you deserve. At the same time YOU need to know that ALL of YOUR personal information is confidential and will NOT be given out or shared with any third parties. We are called to be good stewards, GET REGISTRED, PRAISE THE LORD and HELP YOUR CHURCH COMMUNITY! PARISHIONER REGISTRATION WEEKENDS COMING…. MARCH 8th, 15th, 22nd, & 29th Registration will take place during all the Masses hermanos y hermanas en Cristo: Q ueridos Dos semanas de Cuaresma se han ido! Cuaresma is tiempo de cambio, renovación y conversión. Tal ves te has hecho esta pregunta. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. If you or one of your loved ones wish to be included on or taken off the sick list each month, please call the Rectory at 344-0757. Frances Springer John P.
