ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
FIRST FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH Starts March 6, 2015
Just as the sun is the source of all energy and warmth, so is the Blessed Sacrament the source of all grace and
love in the life of the Catholic. Jesus longs for our visits to Him in the Blessed Sacrament. Here He waits for us
with all the affection of His Sacred Heart.
When we come to Him in the Blessed Sacrament, we come to Bethlehem...because the Eucharist is the
continuation of Christ’s Incarnation on earth.
When we come to the Blessed Sacrament, we come to Calvary...because the Eucharist is the gift of our Lord’s
Passion.
When we come to the Blessed Sacrament...we come to the Resurrection...because the Eucharist is Our Risen
Lord with all the power of His Resurrection flowing out to all who come into His Presence - strengthening the
weak, comforting the afflicted, encouraging the depressed, enlightening the confused and healing the broken-hearted. The Blessed Sacrament is the “love” which surpasses all knowledge” that St. Paul speaks of...and it
is the throne of grace and mercy where “we can speak freely to God, drawing us near to Him with confidence
- because the power at work that “can do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine”, is the mystery and plan
of God .
We thank our Lord for continuing to empty himself in the humility of this Sacrament. Taking the form of the
Sacred Host appearing before us in the likeness of bread, and obediently accepting a state even more humble
than humanity itself to nourish us always in the Eucharist with the fullness of his Divinity.
What a great price Jesus paid to be our Eucharistic Companion! He was willing to die on the cross, to become
for us the Living Bread from Heaven. And here he embraces us and fills us with every consolation. Here...is
where he transform us and makes us a new creation. Please make plans to join us on First Fridays starting in
Lent so we all may be one in him through the Eucharist, proclaiming together that “Jesus is Lord.”
Eucharistic Adoration will start on First Friday March 6, 2015 from 5:30pm-6:30pm in our Church. Adoration
on First Fridays will continue throughout the year at the same time. Please consider spending one hour with
Our Lord each week and see how He will transform and bless your life! Thank you for reading...Deacon Pat
Necerato.

The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and Contemporary World
Thank you for taking part in the survey for the Synod of Bishops: The Vocation and mission of the Family in the Church
and contemporary world. Your involvement is important and appreciated.
Before you proceed with taking the survey, it is very important that you have read the Lineamenta [the working document]
of the Synod that will take place in October 2015. A separate link to this document can be found here on the diocesan web
site. After you have read the Lineamenta, please respond to the questions in one of the two surveys linked on the diocesan
web site and submit them before 20 February, 2015. If you feel you cannot answer each question, please submit the responses that you did give.
As you fill out this questionnaire, don’t lose sight that it follows a process that should be respected: the first part is “Listening” and is oriented toward a description of the situation of the family in our world today; the second part is “Looking
at Christ” and is oriented toward a reflection on what the Gospel teaches us about the family; and the third part is “Confronting the situation” which inquires about the pastoral initiatives and political actions that we should promote in order
to improve the situation of families. Therefore, as you answer each question, please follow this methodology by taking into
account the part of th e questionnaire in which you are working.
Again thank you for your contribution to this important topic in our Church, today.
In Christ,
Rev. Rafael Partida
Episcopal Vicar, Riverside Pastoral Region

Rev. Rafael Partida
Vicario Episcopal, Región Pastoral de Riverside
Reflecting on God’s Word
These first days of Jesus’ ministry present him preaching, teaching, and healing to bring people to know that God is near. His
message and his deeds bring people back to full life in the community. By casting out demons and curing the sick he restores to full
humanity those suffering from possession and illness. Today we
find Jesus confronting a condition that must have been even more
excruciating—leprosy.
To be a leper was to be cut off from others in all ways. You were
cast out of the community, isolated, doomed to live in deserted
places, no longer part of the human family, unable to participate
in any social events, and considered unfit to worship God. It was
assumed that if you had leprosy, you had sinned in some way. Your
life was summed up in the words the Law of Moses told you to cry
out whenever anyone came near, “Unclean, unclean!”
For Jesus to touch a leper meant that in the eyes of others he also
became unclean and unfit to associate and worship with others.
Even so, when a leper asked for healing, Jesus was unequivocal
in his reply: “I do will it. Be made clean” (Mark 1:41). It is easy to
hear in his response the authority of the Son of God, set on giving
glory to his Father. Yet Jesus, ever respectful of the law, sent the
man to the priest, as commanded in the book of Leviticus. In
Jesus, pity took precedence over the law, but did not abolish it.
