SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
FROM FATHER VICTOR:
DE PARTE DE PADRE VICTOR:
Do Everything for the Glory of God
In the Sunday readings, we observe a very
interesting characteristic…the reading from the Old
Testament and the Gospel have the same flavor or
one same idea, while the second reading, which
is almost always taken from the letters of Saint
Paul has a different one. The scholars say that it
is like our program of action for the week. There
we find something that we can apply to our reality
to better it.
Today, for example, in 1 Corinthians 10:2331, Saint Paul is speaking about meat sacrificed to
the idols and later sold in the market. The Apostle
does not see a problem here because the idols “are
not anything”, the real issue is provoking scandal,
this is grave. On the other hand we should mention
that Saint Paul renounced his personal freedoms
in benefit of the Gospel and later says: “be imitators of me.” So, what do you think? What can we
learn from him?
I think that we can live a relationship with
God. Saint Paul says, “I do everything for the glory
of God.” Or also we could better our relationship
and our way of living with others. Saint Paul says,
“do not give scandal”.
By the way, I am remembering about a
movement which was made famous in the world
and that we know as Cursillo de Cristianidad
(Workshop in Christianity). This movement, after
an intense course of three days forms apostles
who leave to transform, they leave to fill with God
the environments that are most difficult. It is an
ecclesial movement that produces excellent results
in the people and in the society.
We also, when we come together for the
Sunday Mass, after the meditation in the scripture
readings, or in the homily, after we eat the Body of
Christ and drink of the Chalice of Salvation, renew
our pact to change the world not only with words
but also with our actions and we leave when the
pastor or the celebrant says “The Mass has ended,
go in peace.”
So, we should not be so concerned about
eating red meat, we should be more concerned
with giving scandal to others. Therefore, I think
we can imitate him, doing our work each day for
the glory of God. What a great program of action
he offers us. 1 Corinthians 10:31
y luego dice: sean imitadores mios. Entonces que
piensas?
San Pablo dice ‘’no den escandalo.’’
terminado.’’
Comer carnes rojas no debe preocuparnos
ofrece I Corintios 10, 31.

The liturgy the source and summit…but…
Paragraph number 10 of “Sacrosanctum Concilium”, the Constitution
that speaks to us about the liturgy from
the Second Vatican Council says that the
liturgy is the source and summit of the
whole Christian life, which is to say that
everything points to her and from her flows
all the ministries of the Church.
This is completely true, however
we must beware with the interpretation
as we can begin to think that participating
in the liturgy is the only activity that we
have to do to grow in our faith and in our
relationship with God. We remember that
paragraph 9 reminds us that the liturgy
does not exhaust all the activity of the
Church, but that we should maintain in
continuous formation to understand our
faith. We cannot assume that only in going to Mass or in baptizing and bringing
the children to receive the Sacraments
is going to increase our faith considerably. It is our responsibility as faithful to
educate ourselves in our faith through the
programs offered by the parish and in this
manner we can enjoy the liturgy and fortify
ourselves through it. The liturgy is the
moment of celebration and communion
and not necessarily a moment of teaching
even though teaching is an aspect of the
Liturgy of the Word.
To increase our understanding we
have other moments of catechesis, prayer
groups, reading and meditation through
books, etc… During this lent we are going
to have some formation groups discussing
the basics of our faith, I hope that you can
be part of one of them and take advantage
of the opportunity to learn something more
about your faith. You can call the office
to ask for information about these groups
and the places they will be meeting.
May God educate us each day more
about our faith that we may grow each day
in the love and knowledge of God.

NOSOTROS NO PODEMOS CURAR
A UN LEPROSO
Pero, si queremos:
- podemos curar esas heridas que, con nuestro
mal humor habitual, causamos en casa a nuestros
seres queridos...
- podemos curar tantas angustias, tantas pequeñas penas, tantas heridas...

LENT KERYGMA SERIES
The “Three Rs of Faith”
Do you remember the old days when people
went to school and there was an emphasis on the
“three Rs” of “Reading, Writing, and ‘Rithmetic”?
The theory was that you needed to have the basics
of learning down before moving on to other areas
of learning.
The basic teaching of Christianity is similar.
When the disciples went out to spread the Gospel
message of salvation, they did it by teaching the
basic framework of faith on which all additional
teaching would be based on.
St. Paul simply called it the “Proclamation”.
In theological terms it is called the “Kerygma” (the
Greek word for proclamation). The five parts of the
Kerygma are: God’s Love, Sin, Salvation through
Jesus, Faith and Conversion, and the Holy Spirit
and the Church. St. Paul and others made it a point
in their preaching to always cover these essential
five areas.
This Lent, in all the weekend Masses, we
as a parish will be preparing for Easter by “going
back to basics”. Each Sunday during Mass we will
preach and teach on one of the five elements of
the Kerygma. The “Good News” for us is that it will
help us to understand the basic Gospel message –
almost like a review of the “Three Rs of Faith”, so
we can be more rooted in our faith and it’s fundamental message. Because it is the fundamentals
of the faith, it is the perfect time for others to come
to faith. Therefore, we need to invite our friends
and family members to come during Lent so they
can understand why Jesus and faith matters.
We will be beginning this series the weekend of February 21/22 after Ash Wednesday. Plan
on making it each weekend during Lent to allow
the basic message of Salvation to impact your life.
In addition, invite your friends and family members
to go with you so that they also might come to appreciate the real Gospel of Jesus and salvation.
Now is the time to commit and invite.

FAMILY FAITH SHARING
Mark 1:40-45
In today’s Gospel we hear about a man who is suffering from such a terrible illness that people are
afraid to touch him or even be close to him. The man begs Jesus to help him. Jesus feels sorry for
the man -- and then touches him and heals him. The man is very happy and grateful and tells everyone what has happened to him.
Have you ever been left out or felt alone without friends? How did that make you feel?
Did anybody show you kindness and compassion? Talk about what they did and how that made you feel.
Have you ever tried to help a person who is lonely? Talk about what you did and how it made you feel.
