INDICATIVO se puede
decir de 3 maneras en
inglés:
ENGLISH
1.- PRESENT SIMPLE :
SRUCTURE:
 Affirmative: SUBJECT +VERB(S-ES-IES)
 Neg: SUBJECT + DON’T/DOESN’T + VERB
 Int: (wh-) DO-DOES + SUBJECT + VERB...?
Ej.: el colegio empieza a las USE: When the action happens regularly, it’s a habit or

routine. E.g.: The school starts at 8.00 o’clock.
TIME EXPRESSIONS:
 adverbs of frequency
 every day, every week/month/year…
 once/twice/three times a day, a week, a month…
 In the morning/afternoon/evening. At midday/night.
 On + days of the week (On Sunday)
 At + times (At 6.30)
 In + months (In September)
 In summer/autumn/winter/spring
 At Christmas/Eastern.
Ej.: Hoy llevo vaqueros
2.- PRESENT CONTINUOUS:
STRUCTURE:
 Affirmative: SUBJECT +AM-IS-ARE +VERB-ING
 Neg: SUBJECT + ISN’T/AREN’T + VERB-ING
 Int: (WH-) ARE-IS-AM + SUBJECT + VERB-ING...?
USE: For actions that are in progress but we don’t translate
them like present continuous:
e.g.: “Today I’m wearing jeans” = Hoy llevo vaqueros.
TIME EXPRESSIONS:
 Now, right now, just now, at the moment.
Ej.: Trabaja en España
desde el 2005.
3.- PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE:
STRUCTURE:
 Affirmative: subject +have-has +verb in participle
 Neg: subject + haven’t/hasn’t + verb in participle
 Int: (wh-) have-Has + subject + verb in participle...?
USE: To talk about an action that started in the past,

2) ESTAR + GERUNDIO
Ej.: están haciendo un
examen
Ej.: Está hablando desde
hace 3 horas = Lleva
hablando 3 horas (LLEVAR
+ GERUNDIO)
continues in the present, we say the duration of the action
with FOR / SINCE / HOW LONG / SINCE WHEN, but it is
not happening right now.
e.g.: He has worked in Spain since 2005 = Trabaja en España
desde 2005.
TIME EXPRESSIONS:
 Since: desde, desde que
 For: desde hace, ( durante)
 How long...? : ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que...?
 Since when…? : ¿Desde cuándo…?
1.- PRESENT CONTINUOUS
USE: When the action is happening in that moment.
e.g.: They are in silence because they are doing an exam.
TIME EXPRESSIONS:
 Now, right now, just now, at the moment.
2.- PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS
STRUCTURE:
 Affirmative: subject +have-has + been + verb-ing
 Neg: subject + haven’t/hasn’t + been + verb-ing
 Int: (wh-) have-Has + subject + been + verb-ing?
USE: To talk about an action that started in the past,
continues in the present but we don’t translate it into
present simple because it is still happening and we say the
duration of the action. e.g.: They have been chatting for 3
hours = Están / llevan hablando desde hace 3 horas.
TIME EXPRESSIONS:
 Since: desde, desde que
 For: desde hace, ( durante)
 How long...? : ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que...?
 Since when…? : ¿Desde cuándo…?
RESUMEN: el PRESENTE DE INDICATIVO español se puede decir en inglés con:


PRESENT SIMPLE si es algo habitual, pero no se dice desde cuando pasa.
PRESENT CONTINUOUS si está pasando en ese momento.
 PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE si es algo habitual y se dice desde cuando pasa.
ESTAR / LLEVAR + GERUNDIO se puede decir en inglés con:
 PRES. CONTINUOUS: si está pasando en ese momento, pero no se dice desde cuando pasa.
