When another person blocks our way slowing what we would like so often we get angry, at them. If we are honest we are angry at ourselves. But we take it out on another. Some people have noted that when we point at others we have three fingers pointing back at ourselves. To go deeper with that truth, it is like taking poison and believing it is going to hurt the other person. So often as the situation would have it the other human being does not even know we are upset. So often all of this upsetment is only in our minds. By changing our view of things a lot can change. Instead of seeing myself and the way I want things to be, as the center of my happiness and contentment having God at the center will make the difference It is like Peter during the storm. When his eyes were fixed on Jesus and his faith was in God he was doing the unexpected, he was walking on water, but when he took his eyes off Jesus and looked at the storm he sank. We need a commitment to our faith in God. We must as adults renew our baptismal promises to live for God and others. This year 2015, we celebrate 175 years of St. Philip Neri parish living faith in God. May we renew our decision to have God at the center of our lives. May we renew that decision often. Let us put this into action. Our commitment to the sacraments, Sunday mass and reconciliation are examples of living out our faith. During this jubilee year between Easter and Pentecost you are invited to open the doors of your hearts to Christ. The center doors of St. Philip church will also be open. Walking through this door will be a sign of your decision to live for God and others. Our decision puts us in the position to be the persons God created us to be and live the best truest lives ever. May we live our lives, God’s way. Father Oliver Dear Fr. Oliver and St. Philip Neri Community, Greetings from Albania! Some of you may remember when I spoke at SPN, regarding my mission trip abroad. Although I expected to be in Africa, I find myself in Albania, a postcommunist country, whose people need a lot of love! I have been in Albania and am encountering a lot of challenges, but also God's love. As I travel, serve, and live abroad I learn not only about God, Catholicism, and other cultures, but I also learn how to better love others, and myself as well. In Albania, the other volunteers and I work with a group of kids from ages 8-11 in the morning; offering various activities, music, art, English, and gymnastics. I also teach a specific group of three kids English, who improve my knowledge of the Albanian language at the same time. I introduce them to games like hangman, and they teach me new hand games, words, and ways to love. The volunteers, sisters, and I also engage the youth of the community by offering everything from dances to adoration. We are currently planning an outing for the youth to take them on a hiking trip in the mountains. Your support allows us to provide materials for the children, and also to plan outings for the youth. Thank you very much for your ongoing prayers and support! In Christ, Amanda Reilly PS Please enjoy these photos! The food we were able to provide at our Christmas program thanks to your generosity!
