Their innocence, hopefulness, and amazing and amusing things they say and do bring out good qualities in people. Bring a child into a nursing home and watch people light up. Or walk into a store with a 2 year old and see people smile. Or watch when a dad carries a toddler on his shoulders and even people driving by smile. Simeon must have smiled at Jesus. He saw more than just an infant smiling and proud parents. He knew he looked upon the hope and promise of Israel. He saw his heir apparent the priest, prophet and king who would bring the message of salvation to the world. Simeon no doubt smiled as he gazed upon the infant so many had longed to see. Joy is a very important part of faith. Knowing the Lord and sharing in His life should bring us a sense of joyfulness and peace, if we really believe in the promises of Jesus. Too often people leave Church the same way they leave root canal!! We know and have seen for ourselves the great work of love and hope that God has done. We are His heirs! Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the Temple to show that he would do the work of his Father in heaven. God has a purpose for you. Thank God that he gave you life. Tell him that you will help others to know him and to love him, too. Prayer Lord, help me be a pleasing gift to you every day of my life. Question of the Week… Where do you see authority exercised in line with gospel values? Something to Draw Draw youself teaching a little boy and girl how to cross the street safely. Mission for the Week I will ask my parents if our family can read the Bible together tonight. 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time Athletes put hours into practice. It is not enough just to play the game. In practice a person learns the moves, discovers how muscles respond, trains all aspects of his ©2008 - PO Box 510817, New Berlin, WI 53151-0817 - 1or her body, and over time becomes so proficient at the 800-950-9952 x2469 - LPiResourceCenter.com selected sport that she or he can intuitively react during play. Practice in sports helps the athlete develop self-confidence. The same holds true for the musician, the salesperson, the new teacher. When an individual takes up something new he or she may initially be a bit shaky at it. Over time, we develop the skills so that something becomes second nature. A confident team takes to the field or the court with the belief that they will win. Due to winter storm Juno the bulletin was Defending Our Religious Liberty uploaded 2 days early to ensure delivery by the weekend. The Archdiocese’s Defending our Religious Liberty update was not available at time of upload and will return next weekend. Readings for the Week of February 1, 2015 Sunday: Monday: Dt 18:15-20/1 Cor 7:32-35/Mk 1:21-28 Mal 3:1-4/Heb 2:14-18/Lk 2:22-40 or 2:22-32 Tuesday: Heb 12:1-4/Mk 5:21-43 Wednesday: Heb 12:4-7, 11-15/Mk 6:1-6 Thursday: Heb 12:18-19, 21-24/Mk 6:7-13 Friday: Heb 13:1-8/Mk 6:14-29 Saturday: Heb 13:15-17, 20-21/Mk 6:30-34 Next Sunday: Jb 7:1-4, 6-7/1 Cor 9:16-19, 22-23/ Mk 1:29-39 ©Liturgical Publications Inc In today's Gospel, Jesus is the confident, self-assured teacher. Yes, he works a miracle. But before we get caught up in that, we should look at how Mark portrays him. Right at the beginning of the Gospel, Jesus enters the synagogue in Capernaum and starts to teach. Unlike the scribes who would appeal to the words of Jewish teachers to support their teaching, Jesus comes across as confident in his own authority. He has no need to reference what others have handed on. Instead, his teaching commands respect because he shows its truth through his deeds. Like the athlete who is confident in his game, we can become confident in our faith by practicing it. As we see in the Gospel from the very first chapter of Mark, Jesus was confident in both word and deed. We can do the same. By reading the Scriptures regularly we become attuned to Christ's teaching. We absorb the knowledge, just as any good athlete memorizes all the plays. And by acting on Christ's teaching through our worship of God and love of neighbor we are performing the deeds of faith. The skills become second nature as we put into practice what we have been taught by Christ. ©2011 Liturgical Publications Inc Page Six The BULLETIN Board Stolen Lives: A Gospel Response to Human Trafficking Saturday, March 7th 9am - 12 noon St. James Church, Rocky Hill, CT Wisdom House Retre at and Conference Cent er, Litchfield, CT Winter Quiet Days: February 12-16, 2015 .
