Where has the time gone? We are already in our 33rd year as an association and I am truly honored to be part of the growth and development of RPA. RPA has given so much to our local paralegals over the years and will continue to offer great opportunities for many years to come. I want to thank Kitty Bice, ACP, immediate past president, for being such a great leader, supporter, and friend. I know it will be difficult to fill her shoes, but I hope to continue to lead the association with the passion that she has shown. I also want to thank all the past presidents and current/previous board and committee members. Each of you have given many hours of your personal time to help this organization grow and to help other paralegals learn. We really do have a remarkable association! We held our Annual Board Retreat on Saturday, January 10, 2015 and discussed plans for the upcoming year. We have great speakers and topics lined up this year! We are very excited about our upcoming CLE’s and are even more excited to offer two Saturday seminars – RPA On The Record Page 2 Volume 33, Issue 1 February 2015 President’s Message (continued) one in March and one in October. Please email our Education Chair, Darlene Yeary, ACP, at [email protected] if you have ideas for topics you would like to see offered at one of the seminars. In lieu of our traditional Paralegals Week Reception in October, we are going to hold our second “Month of Service.” October is a great month to get involved in the community but please consider volunteering all year long. Be on the lookout for opportunities to get involved with CVLAS and CASA! If you have not yet attended a NALA Convention, this year would be a great year to participate as NALA will be celebrating 40 years! I hope to see you in Tulsa, Oklahoma! Thank you all for a great 2014 and I look forward to another great year ahead! Donna January 2015 Education Report Darlene Yeary, ACP 1 Vice President, Education Chair st A Look Ahead to 2015 Our first meeting of 2015 took place on January 27th with a presentation from Jackie Quella from the U.S. Court of Appeals, 4th Circuit regarding ECF Conversions and Next Generation Attorney Filings. The committee is looking for a lunch sponsor for February. We are planning on two seminars this year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The spring mini seminar will be a morning seminar at Virginia 529 located off of Arboretum Parkway in North Chesterfield. It will have a light breakfast sponsored by Bay Trust & Company. The fall seminar will be taking place October 24th at the University of Richmond. We are planning on having an education track along with an additional track to assist individuals studying for the CP Exam. For the Brown Bag Lunch Meetings, we are planning on the capability to have attendees call in to participate (along as you have an 804 phone number) and receive CLE credit. When you RSVP for the lunch meeting, please indicate that you will be participating by phone. The CLE attendance certificates will be emailed to members after the meetings as they were last year. Please provide feedback on any educational meeting via the CLE survey or by email to let us know what you like and don’t like. We would also like to remind meeting attendees when there is a cost is involved and if we do not receive a cancellation notice from you by the date mentioned on the notice, we will ask you to cover the fee mentioned on the invite because you were included in the catering headcount.
