Congratulations to the new Bridge and Commander Elect Lt/C

We started the PFD Loaner Program at the Marine Max.
We joined the Venice Chamber of Commerce.
We formed a relationship with Marine Max to conduct Free
Boating Seminars at their facility.
VSPS has a new venue for The Executive Committee
Meetings and Membership Meetings at the Venice Yacht
Club. With the help of Sarasota Power and Sail Squadron,
VSPS initiated a self-improvement task force, SWOT:
Strengths – Weakness – Opportunities – Threats.
The new Bridge and Executive Committee will decide if we
pursue having a Facebook page. I want to thank all of the Bridge,
Executive Committee and Members for their support. It’s been a
memorable and very interesting year. VSPS members, please
continue working as TEAM.

EXECUTIVE OFFICER
REPORT
Lt/C SUSAN PARRISH, AP
CONGRATULATIONS To all elected officers of the Bridge, Assistants, and
Executive Committee for the 2015-2016 watch year!!!
Many thanks from me go out to our volunteer members who willingly gave their
time to make the Executive Department a success in 2014. Without you, events
would not have happened. As you know, the Executive Office is the position
within the Squadron to volunteer for the Civic side of the Squadron. With this in
mind, here are the Departments and the head of these Committees that
sincerely deserve a big round of applause.
BOAT SHOW AND MARKET COMMITTEE - Many a volunteer took the time
to set up the Markets that took place in 2014. THANK YOU.
BOATING SAFETY COMMITTEE – P/D/C Don Parrish SN - organized the
Safe Boating Week. Super Job and a big THANK YOU to all who assisted.
CO-OP CHARTING - Lt Gordon Bloom, SN paved the way to make it a
successful year to go on to win awards from National for the Squadron. We
applaud you. THANK YOU.
PADDLECRAFT COMMITTEE - P/C Peter Roach AP, you lead the way on the
waters in our kayaks to a new adventure to see nature up close. What a
marvelous adventure it was. Keep up the good work and let’s get a bigger
group going in 2015. THANK YOU.
PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE- P/C Tim McGarr, P – your tireless energy
and enthusiasm for setting up ads, seeing that flyers were distributed to various
businesses and broad casting the news to our members is never ending. A big
hand of applause to you, Tim. THANK YOU.
VESSEL SAFETY CHECK COMMITTEE – P/C Joe Hughes, AP – Joe leads
the VSCE’s to strive each year for a higher number in examining vessels. It is
highly appreciated that Joe takes countless hours of dedication to a very vital
program. JOB WELL DONE. THANK YOU.
LIAISON OFFICER – P/C Hans Haseloff - Hans was the star in this
department. You were the go between of the Squadron and the Coast Guard
of Venice, Flotilla 86. Hans made the associations of understanding between
the Squadron and the Coast Guard to work side by side in harmony. THANK
YOU.
It has been a great learning experience and fulfilling year. This year the
Squadron accomplished more than the year before, whether the
accomplishments were small or large. New members stepped up to volunteer.
Our wheel of success is on the road again and you might say each and every
one of us is a spoke on this wheel to make it move. TOGETHER WE
ACCOMPLISHED MORE. I look forward to the future of the Venice Sail and
Power Squadron and its successes to become a Squadron you want to join,
work in harmony and to stay for the friendships.
I leave you with this: IT’S JUST A THOUGHT - WE ARE RESPONSIBLE TO
OTHERS FOR GIVING THEM THE ENCOURAGEMENT AND PRAISE THAT
MAY MEAN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FAILURE AND SUCCESS!

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER
REPORT
Lt/C WILFREDO LOPEZ, P
A year went by and I feel like it was just yesterday that I was sworn as
Administrative Officer at the Change of Watch 2014. Much was
accomplished, but not enough to bring up the participation of all the
members to the boating and social activities. I truly understand that not
many active members have boats anymore and we 1/3 of the members
that we have are “snow birds”.
The challenge to the upcoming Administrative Officer 2015 is to meet
the expectations of the new elected Commander. I am very confident
on the qualification and experience of LT/C Robert Eppinger, P in being
able to accomplish much more in the incoming year.
My salute to the newly elected Bridge 2015-16

Hey Great News!
You can now access the VSPS Google Calendar on our web
site and also directly from this newsletter!
• No sign-in
• No password
• Simply click and view
To see the VSPS Google Calendar, simply go to the second
page of this newsletter. Look for the very long link at the
bottom of the “Coming Events” block, press and hold “ctrl” and
left click your mouse. VOILA the calendar should pop up! The
thing works almost the same way at the VSPS web site. Go
to our site at www.boatvenicefl.com, click on the “Calendar”
word in the menu. Try it! After you get to the calendar, click
on any of the listed events to get the details of that event.
Bad News:
There seems to have been a change in MS Windows (I’m not
sure why) regarding email names. Before you could simply
click on one of the email names in this letter and your email
client would pop up with the email address already filled in.
Now all that happens is your browser opens. I will try to find
out why this change occurred but ion the meantime you can
still “copy and paste” the email into your “send to” block.
Inlet Update – I may be getting around to making format
changes to the Inlet soon, please tell me what you like or don’t
like or other ideas.
In the meantime, sign up for the classes and seminars!

VENICE INLET BOOSTERS NEEDED
We need Venice Inlet boosters for the 2014-2015 Watch Year!
Did you know that it costs VSPS more than $2 ($20-30 per year) to print and mail each copy of the
Venice Inlet? If you have Internet access, get the Inlet on line and save your Squadron the cost of
printing and mailing (it’s better that way anyway). Please call or email the Editor (see page 3) to
update your email address and stop mailing the Venice Inlet to you. You can view or download the
current issue from any computer, tablet, or smart-phone (even at a library or public computer) at:
http://www.usps.org/localusps/venice/pdf/inlet.pdf
If you or any member would like to contribute to help offset the cost of producing and distributing the
Venice Inlet to those with no Internet access, please let us hear from you.
