BROADLAND DISTRICT COUNCIL - Now that the clocks have changed, it is easier for rogue traders to fly tip down
dark country lanes unseen. At Broadland we try and keep on top of fly tipping. We work with landowners to make it
harder for people to fly tip on their land. We remove any fly tips from the roadside
promptly and take enforcement action where we have witnesses come forward.
Sadly, law-abiding citizens can be caught out by rogue traders who can then fly tip
their waste. The message we’d like to give out is never give or pay for your waste
to be taken away by someone who just knocks on your door. They may take away
all your waste, but then keep what is worth money, for example scrap metal and
then fly tip what is worthless to them.
If you have excess waste, always use a reputable company and ask for a receipt.
There are other options to dispose of waste legally and safely via Norfolk County
Council recycling centres. Broadland Council also offers a bulky waste collection
service.

STREET NAMES FOR WYNGATE DEVELOPMENT
Broadland District Council has asked Blofield Parish Council to recommend names for the three new roads in the
Wyngate development. Following much discussion at a recent council meeting, it was proposed to take the names for new
roads from the WWI register of parishioners’ deaths in ascending date order. The names proposed to Broadland Council
are Farman (in memory of Thomas B Farman), Symonds (in memory of Russell J Symonds and Frederick William
Symonds) and Lynes (in memory of Ernest L Lynes). Any new roads created in the parish in the future will be named in a
similar way.
If any parishioner and, in particular, any surviving family members have any concerns with this approach then please
contact the parish clerk, Sarah Osbaldeston, on 01603 270819 or email [email protected]

larger-than-life Nanny Coddle, brainless Dave Knave and a rather overworked fairy. Will they succeed in thwarting the
sheriff’s evil plot? Taking place at Margaret Harker Hall in Blofield, on Saturday 21 st February there’s a matinee at
1.00pm and an evening show at 6.00pm. The final performance will be a matinee at 1.00pm on Sunday 22 nd February.

ABOUT FOCAL POINT
Focal Point started life as a local newsletter in Blofield Heath around 1960 or even earlier with a modest number of
houses and has been published monthly ever since.
During the early years, each of the one or two pages had to be carefully typed directly onto special paper.
The special paper would then be transferred to a Roneo or Gestetner duplicator which was operated by hand.
In about 1990, the present editor Granville Hornsby, approached the then Heathlands Committee with a proposal to
publish Focal Point each month at no cost to them.
Granville saw a way of covering the cost of the print production by taking trade advertising.
To this day, the revenue created by Focal Point is used to pay for the print run, which is now done by digital printing but
previously in the 1990s an offset litho' print process was used.
The preparation of artwork is done on computer and the printing is outsourced.
The revenue income from advertising allows us to make contributions to Heathlands Community Centre as and when
funds permit.
Gradually, Focal Point has grown and additional areas have been added. These include Little Plumstead and the main
village of Blofield (at the request of Blofield Parish Council).
The page count has increased to eight over the years and the quantity printed each month is approx 2300.
DELIVERY
All of the people involved in the production and delivery of Focal Point are volunteers.
This has been the case since it began all those years ago. We currently have some 60 delivery volunteers and delivery
organisers, who all freely give their time as their own important contribution to our area.
Naturally with so many delivery people, we often need additional help as some volunteers leave or move away.
It is vital that we have pool of volunteers who will take over a round when needed.
We try to keep the delivery rounds at a reasonable size so as not to impose or take advantage and to make it easier to
allocate a replacement when needed.
Most volunteers deliver to their own road or immediate area.
Usually, the bulk quantities are distributed to our delivery people on or around the 25 th of the preceeding month.
This is designed to allow time to get each copy delivered in time for the month end but on a day or time of choice.
You are invited to offer yourself as a volunteer for deliveries. Any applications will be very welcome. As we do not know
when a vacancy might become available, we may need to put you on our list so that we can contact you at a later date.
The printed edition of Focal Point is published and delivered free of charge by volunteers to houses in Blofield Heath, Blofield, Hemblington & Little
Plumstead. Over 2200 copies are printed for each issue. Advertising revenue is used to pay for the printing and other production expenses. Proceeds
are used to help provide facilities and services for events at Heathlands Community Centre as and when funds permit.
Focal Point is published on a regular basis, is compiled by Andy Broad and edited and published by Granville Hornsby.
