Play is hailed to enhance brain function and add happiness to your daily life. This will be an interactive hour of fun, excitement and challenges that will get you on the path of rediscovering passion in your recovery. May 9, 2015: It’s All in the Family—Barbara Welsh-Osga, Ph.D. When a brain injury occurs, it’s as if a bomb exploded in the middle of a family. The subsequent journey toward recovery is long, complicated and uncertain. Barbara will address issues for the survivor as well as the family as they work to create a new life together. September 12, 2015: Punching Holes in the Darkness—Tom Behr, Attorney at Law Specializing in Private Fiduciary Services. Tom will describe the roles of private fiduciaries in providing compassionate and professional care of the personal and financial needs of their clients. The roles include being a client’s conservator and/or trustee of their trust. October 10, 2015: Neurologic Music Therapy— Holly Mead, MT-BC. Rehabilitation, Palomar Health. Music Therapy can help in pain management; relaxation and stress management; physical rehabilitation and personal growth. In this participatory session, Holly will demonstrate techniques used in music therapy to enhance recovery after a brain injury. November 14, 2015: Redefining the Self After Brain Injury—Tracy Teregis, M.S. and Kim Chartrand, R.N., Holistic Brain Health. Following a brain injury, one frequently experiences a loss of identity. Tracy and Kim will share strategies to help build and discover one’s new identity. December 19, 2015: There will be no meeting at Scripps, Encinitas in December. Come join the Holiday Party at the Joyce Beers Community Center, 3900 Vermont St., San Diego, 92103 on December 19. Entertainment will be provided by the Sharp Players under the direction of Richard Green, L.C.S.W., Sharp Rehabilitation Center.
