Students graduating before Fall 2015 are not eligible. Scholarship recipients must attend the Communication Department Awards Banquet in early April to receive awards. Information supplied with this application may be used to introduce scholarship winners. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Application forms must be signed and include all of the following: 1) a current transcript, 2) a letter of recommendation, 3) a 1-page resume, 4) a 300-500 word (double-spaced) personal statement, 5) Any additional items that may be required for students who want to be considered for Need-Based, Deseret Digital Media, Deseret Book, Deseret News, or KSL Scholarships. Scholarship Application Checklist Attach a current transcript of grades. Students may print unofficial transcripts directly from CIS. Submit a letter of recommendation. Ask someone who knows your academic work to send a confidential letter of recommendation to: Communication Scholarship Committee, 255 S. Central Campus Dr., LNCO 2400, Salt Lake City, UT 84112-0491. Or, you may submit the letter with your application if the recommender seals the letter in an envelope and signs her/his name across the seal. Attach a 1-page resume with ALL of the following sections: Work experience, including internships. Honors and awards, including dates received. Special activities related to your academic studies, including dates. Special programs or organizations outside your academic studies, including dates. We suggest you work with Career Services to ensure your resume is written to professional standards. Attach a 300-500 word personal statement discussing your specific academic and career plans. If you check any of the specific priority boxes on this application, you must demonstrate in your personal statement how those circumstances apply to you. Include any special considerations you would like the Scholarship Committee to be aware of. We suggest you work with Career Services for assistance with writing a personal statement. For students that would like to be considered for Need-Based, Deseret Digital Media, Deseret Book, Deseret News, or KSL Scholarships Attach any additional materials required for the Deseret Digital Media, Deseret Book, Deseret News, or KSL scholarships as indicated below. Details about these scholarships are posted at communication.utah.edu in the Undergraduate section. Deseret Book: A portfolio of planning and execution of strategic communication plans. Deseret Digital Media: A portfolio of digital media. Deseret News: A portfolio of reporting and writing. KSL: A performance reel of reporting or producing (DVD acceptable; USB drive preferred). Need-Based Scholarships. To be considered for a need-based scholarship award, you must complete the 2015-2016 FAFSA application. The application becomes available January 2015, but we highly recommend that you file the FAFSA once your 2014 taxes have been filed.
