All The Gifts of Christmas for MHCO,
Kids Make This Holiday, New Year
Incredible
For the first time or the fiftieth, donors who give at Christmas give
more than presents, they give hope.
They are the people that make wishes come true. They come
over 40 days, but their impact may last a lifetime. At the
holidays, they travel or mail or meet to deliver presents, goods,
supplies, needs, wants, memories, and hope. They give
personally and often ask for the generosity of others. They are
the blessings that continue to supply the hearts and minds of
children. These are the donors of Christmas at our Home.
They are Santa Claus and a favorable friend.

contributing at Christmas for the first time, some more than 35
times (incredible!). They are individuals, couples, groups, and
companies. Many are Masons, familiar with our Home, while
some call this Home giving back to their “brothers and sisters”
now as alumni. Many give at other times during the year
contributing with needs and services, realizing their gifts can
support a young life at any time. They call this opportunity a
blessing in their lives at Christmas, when without their support
and generosity, we would be unable to provide for those in our
care at the holidays. They are celebrated here for the many
ways they gave this Christmas at our Home; they will be
remembered for giving to dreams and contributing to the hope of
a child in our care all year long. Our special thanks to all listed
here for their gifts for today and for many tomorrows in the life of
a child at MHCO. Help us celebrate these friends and the gifts
and hope they shared with our children during Christmas 2014.

Bringing Spring to the Home for Children – Volunteers Needed for
4th Annual Great Landscape at Oxford - March 14, 2015
While we struggle through a soggy winter, we hope the idea of preparing our campus for spring brings to mind better thoughts! For
the past several springs and thanks to the idea of a young Girl Scout and her grandfather, we once again gather with the care and
support of volunteers to prepare this campus, these homes, and this place for our children at The Masonic Home for Children. Your
participation and that of your group, co-workers, friends, or family means that we will not only have this Home for Children ready for
spring – it will be made ready through the hearts and helping hands of you – our kind and generous volunteers who believe in our
mission and have hope in what their giving here can do! We thank you for all the gifts this day and your work gives to the lives and
homes of our children – THANK YOU for giving to this day! PLEASE REMEMBER:
If it rains on the day of the event or the temperature does not look to exceed a certain degree mark, we will cancel and reschedule the day for March 21, 2015, same times. If it rains or is cold on March 21, 2015, the event will be cancelled entirely.
You are welcome to bring rakes, shovels, gloves, pruners, wheelbarrows, and landscaping items that must remain with you
during the project. For some special projects, for which some volunteers will be notified ahead of time, special items will be requested prior to the weekend.
Your contribution can include items to be planted (trees, bulbs, flowers, seeds, sets.) or supplies for the spring and summer
for outdoors, which add to making this place a “home”. Landscaping and plants always makes a home and those that live there
feel better!
While the schedule below has set times, groups can begin to work in their assigned area any time after 8am and can depart
any time after 11am, reporting at the cafeteria for all activities and departures.
-
All participants will be credentialed and identified upon check-in and must do so in order to work on campus on this day.
For questions, more information, or to inquire about changes due to weather, please call 919-603-3901 or email [email protected].

SCENES FROM CHRISTMAS AT MHCO – 2015
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND THANK YOU TO OUR DEAR FRIENDS AND DONORS WHO MADE THIS A
HOLIDAY FILLED WITH CHARITY, JOY, AND LOVE FOR OUR HOME AND ITS MISSION!
GROWING WAYS TO GIVE MORE – MATCHING GIFTS - A
Fundraising Series
How Your Employer’s Committee to Charity Generate Even More Giving
This is the first in a short series of articles focused on the number of different and growing ways to give larger and more frequently to our
Masonic Home for Children at Oxford. Specifically these articles recognize that more and more we are asking for contributions, which are
crucially needed to operate our Home and provide quality care for our children, away from their families. Yet, we realize that in meeting this
need, we cannot continue to ask for more from the same sources – namely our Masons. How do we increase the giving we must have to
provide for our children’s lives and increase the quality of their care while respecting the charitable concerns of our Masons, who are constantly
asked for support?
The answer can be found in several different forms, all of which provide benefit to the Home and its mission financially while not demanding
additional funding from what is already given so generously by our fraternity. For this article we focus on MATCHING GIFTS.
What is a MATCHING GIFT? A matching gift, can also be known as a matching fund or matching donation and is a charitable gift made toward
a non-profit organization, like MHCO, by a matching donor (e.g., an employer, financial institution, or other organization) under the provision that
an original donor (e.g., an employee, retiree, or spouse of an employee) first makes a gift toward that organization. Matching Gifts are the
perfect example of taking the gifts already generous given by our donors and in some cases “doubling or tripling” the amount given, without
asking the original donor to give more. Many companies and other employee driven organizations offer MATCHING GIFT programs. These
programs can include:
 a matching gift of cash or stock, of various percentages and up to various limits annually,
 the ability to match the gift of a spouse of an employee or a retired employee,
 the opportunity for families who work for companies who offer MATCHING GIFTS, to combine their credit for an annual gift to MHCO,
 and Payroll deductions and annual statements from your employer further simplifying the giving process
Look for a full list of currently participating employers on our new website in 2015. Not taking advantage of MATCHING GIFTS or unsure if your
employer participates? Visit your company website or the HR Department of find out today.

GIVING MORE THAN PRESENTS, WISHES THIS HOLIDAY
The relationships of our employees often make all the difference. So was the case with Mrs.
Karen Gay with Franklin County Schools, Technology Department. She and her department picked our Home for Christmas 2014 to support, fulfilling wishes from the Needs List .
She is seen here presenting the items to Administrator Kevin Otis. This was the first time the
group picked our Home, which had everything to do with our newly hired Education Coordinator, Linda Fredrickson, who previously worked at Franklin County Schools. Big thanks to
both the Franklin County IT Department and to Mrs. Frederickson for getting involved in ways
that will help the Home beyond the holidays!
For another Christmas the brethren of Leaksville Lodge No. 136 made
their annual visit, this year donating over $2,200 as part of their annual
gift to the Home. The proceeds were the result of a rifle raffle, which was
beautifully engraved by “Santa” (as seen in this picture) and raffled by the
members of the Lodge. Specials thanks, for this donation and the item
that was raffled, to the members of the Lodge and for making the trip to
visit our Home with the proceeds.
End of year giving means so much as many conclude their annual fundraisers and
return their proceeds to get credit for their giving that year. With over $400,000 in
Masonic Giving received just in the month of December we celebrate the obligation
fulfilled by our brethren, including those listed and seen here as well as those unseen
but still giving for the care of the children.
This includes the brethren of Creedmoor No. 499
(Brother Tommy and Mrs. Keith left) and their
donation/collection from Lodge members and their
families. The members of Henry F. Grainger No.
412 (right), a local Lodge that provided its annual gift
at the end of the year. Or the brethren of
Perseverance Lodge No. 59, whose November
Ladies and Widows Night has included a donation
presentation for the past several years.
The Home relies on these and all
Masonic donations throughout the year
to allow for general operating needs and
those directly related to the care of the
children. The Home will be announcing
the “Per Lodge, Per Member” giving in February 2015 and printing it in the
Annual Achievement Report which will be available on-line and in hardcopy
in April of this year.
Gifts of Opportunity
The Home is blessed to have donors who give in other special ways at Christmas, including the following
who provided activities and opportunities, adding to the positive memories of those here during Christmas,
apart from their families. All Activities were sponsored during the Christmas break.
